Жил в Раматаим-Цофиме, что на Ефремовом нагорье, человек по имени Элкана, сын Ерохама, внук Элиху, правнук Тоху, праправнук Цуфа из рода Эфрати.1

Now there was a certain man of Ramathaimzophim, of mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite:

У него было две жены: одну звали Анна, другую — Пенинна. У Пенинны были дети, а у Анны их не было.

And he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.

Каждый год тот человек ходил из своего города в Силом на поклонение ГОСПОДУ Воинств, чтобы совершить жертвоприношения; священниками ГОСПОДНИМИ там были Хофни и Финеес, сыновья Илия.

And this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the LORD of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the LORD, were there.

В день жертвоприношения Элкана давал жене своей Пенинне, ее сыновьям и дочерям жертвенное мясо,2

And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:

а Анне выделял двойную долю, потому что любил Анну, хотя ГОСПОДЬ и не дал ей детей.3

But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the LORD had shut up her womb.

Соперница же унижала Анну и поносила4 из-за того, что ГОСПОДЬ не дал ей детей.

And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the LORD had shut up her womb.

Так повторялось из года в год: всякий раз, когда приходили они в Храм ГОСПОДЕНЬ, одна унижала другую, а та плакала и отказывалась есть.

And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the LORD, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat.

Элкана, муж Анны, спрашивал ее: «Почему ты всё плачешь и не ешь? Что за печаль у тебя на сердце? Разве я для тебя не дороже десяти сыновей?»

Then said Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons?

Однажды после жертвенного пира в Силоме, когда у входа в Святилище Храма ГОСПОДНЯ восседал священник Илий, Анна поднялась

So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the LORD.

и, тяжело страдая в душе и горько плача, обратилась с молитвой к ГОСПОДУ.

And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore.

Дала она Ему такой обет: «О ГОСПОДИ Воинств, если Ты видишь, как страдает раба Твоя, и вспомнишь обо мне, если не забудешь Свою рабу и дашь ей родить мальчика, то я отдам его ГОСПОДУ на всю его жизнь, и бритва не коснется его головы».

And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no rasor come upon his head.

Долго молилась она ГОСПОДУ, а священник Илий смотрел на ее губы:

And it came to pass, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli marked her mouth.

Анна молилась безмолвно,5 только губы ее шевелились, а голоса не было слышно, и Илий принял ее за пьяную.

Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken.

Илий сказал ей: «Долго еще ты будешь здесь стоять пьяной? Ступай протрезвись!»

And Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee.

Но Анна отвечала ему: «Нет, господин мой, перед тобой6 женщина, удрученная горем, ни вина, ни хмельного напитка я не пила — я душу изливаю пред ГОСПОДОМ.

And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD.

Не думай, что раба твоя — никчемная женщина, нет, я говорила много оттого, что велика моя беда, моя обида!»

Count not thine handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto.

На это Илий сказал: «Ступай с миром, и да исполнит Бог Израиля твою просьбу, дарует тебе, что ты просила у Него».

Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.

Сказала женщина: «Да обретет раба твоя милость твою!» — и отправилась к себе, стала есть и пить, и не было более печали на ее лице.

And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad.

Встали они рано поутру, поклонились ГОСПОДУ и отправились домой, в Раму. Элкана познал жену свою Анну, и вспомнил о ней ГОСПОДЬ.

And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her.

В должный срок Анна родила сына и дала ему имя Самуил, говоря: «Я вымолила его у ГОСПОДА».7

Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD.

Когда муж ее Элкана отправился со всем семейством принести ежегодную жертву ГОСПОДУ и исполнить свой обет,

And the man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer unto the LORD the yearly sacrifice, and his vow.

Анна не пошла, сказав мужу: «Когда мальчик будет отнят от груди, тогда я отведу его туда, чтобы он предстал пред ГОСПОДОМ и остался там навсегда».

But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and there abide for ever.

Муж ее Элкана ответил: «Поступай, как считаешь нужным, оставайся дома, пока не отнимешь его от груди, — только бы ГОСПОДЬ исполнил слово Свое».8 И женщина осталась; она кормила грудью сына, пока он не был отнят от груди.

And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth thee good; tarry until thou have weaned him; only the LORD establish his word. So the woman abode, and gave her son suck until she weaned him.

Вскормив его, она взяла с собой трехлетнего тельца,9 одну эфу муки, мех вина и отвела сына в Святилище10 ГОСПОДНЕ в Силоме. Мальчик был еще маленьким.

And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the LORD in Shiloh: and the child was young.

Тельца закололи, мальчика подвели к священнику Илию.

And they slew a bullock, and brought the child to Eli.

Анна сказала: «О господин мой, жива душа твоя, господин мой! Я та самая женщина, что стояла пред тобой здесь, молясь ГОСПОДУ.

And she said, Oh my lord, as thy soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the LORD.

Вот этого мальчика я вымаливала тогда; исполнил ГОСПОДЬ мою просьбу — даровал, что я просила у Него.

For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him:

И я отдаю его ГОСПОДУ: навсегда отдан он ГОСПОДУ». И оставила она его там для ГОСПОДА.11

Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there.
