Так как уже многие взялись за составление повествования о совершившихся среди нас событиях,

Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile an account of the things accomplished among us,

как передали нам те, кому от начала довелось быть очевидцами и служителями слова,

just as they were handed down to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word,

решил и я, тщательно исследовав все с самого начала, последовательно написать для тебя, превосходнейший Феофил,

it seemed fitting for me as well, having investigated everything carefully from the beginning, to write it out for you in consecutive order, most excellent Theophilus;

чтобы ты познал достоверность того учения, в котором был наставлен.

so that you may know the exact truth about the things you have been taught.

Был в дни Ирода, царя Иудейского, некий священник по имени Захария, из чреды Авиевой, и жена у него из дочерей Аароновых, имя ее Елисавета.

In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abijah; and he had a wife from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.

Были же праведны они оба пред Богом, поступая по всем заповедям и уставам Господним безукоризненно.

They were both righteous in the sight of God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and requirements of the Lord.

И были они бездетны, ибо Елисавета была неплодна, и оба достигли преклонного возраста.

But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both advanced in years.

Было же: когда священнодействовал он в порядке чреды своей пред Богом, по обычаю священного служения,

Now it happened that while he was performing his priestly service before God in the appointed order of his division,

выпал ему жребий воскурить фимиам, войдя в храм Господень;

according to the custom of the priestly office, he was chosen by lot to enter the temple of the Lord and burn incense.

а все множество народа молилось вне во время каждения,

And the whole multitude of the people were in prayer outside at the hour of the incense offering.

Явился же ему ангел Господень, став по правую сторону жертвенника кадильного.

And an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing to the right of the altar of incense.

И смущен был Захария этим видением, и страх напал на него.

Zacharias was troubled when he saw the angel, and fear gripped him.

Сказал же ему ангел: не бойся, Захария, ибо услышана молитва твоя, и жена твоя Елисавета родит тебе сына, и наречешь имя ему: Иоанн.

But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your petition has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will give him the name John.

И будет радость тебе и ликование, и многие о рождении его возрадуются;

“You will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth.

ибо он будет велик пред Господом, и вина и хмельного не будет пить, и Духа Святого исполнится еще от чрева матери своей,

“For he will be great in the sight of the Lord; and he will drink no wine or liquor, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit while yet in his mother’s womb.

и многих из сынов Израилевых обратит к Господу Богу их.

“And he will turn many of the sons of Israel back to the Lord their God.

он будет идти перед Ним в духе и силе Илии, чтобы возвратить сердца отцов детям и непокорным образ мыслей праведных, представить Господу народ приготовленный.

“It is he who will go as a forerunner before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, TO TURN THE HEARTS OF THE FATHERS BACK TO THE CHILDREN, and the disobedient to the attitude of the righteous, so as to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

И сказал Захария ангелу: по какому знаку узнаю я это? Я ведь стар, и жена моя достигла преклонного возраста.

Zacharias said to the angel, “How will I know this for certain? For I am an old man and my wife is advanced in years.”

И ответил ему ангел: я Гавриил, предстоящий пред Богом, и послан говорить тебе и благовествовать тебе это.

The angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news.

И вот, ты будешь молчать и не сможешь говорить до того дня, когда сбудется это, за то, что ты не поверил словам моим, которые исполнятся в свое время.

“And behold, you shall be silent and unable to speak until the day when these things take place, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their proper time.”

И ожидал народ Захарию и удивлялся промедлению его в храме.

The people were waiting for Zacharias, and were wondering at his delay in the temple.

А выйдя, он не мог с ними говорить, и поняли они, что он имел видение в храме; и сам он делал им знаки и оставался нем.

But when he came out, he was unable to speak to them; and they realized that he had seen a vision in the temple; and he kept making signs to them, and remained mute.

И было: когда окончились дни служения его, ушел он в дом свой.

When the days of his priestly service were ended, he went back home.

После же этих дней зачала Елисавета, жена его, и пять месяцев скрывала себя от всех, говоря:

After these days Elizabeth his wife became pregnant, and she kept herself in seclusion for five months, saying,

так мне сотворил Господь в дни, когда Ему угодно было снять с меня поношение среди людей.

“This is the way the Lord has dealt with me in the days when He looked with favor upon me, to take away my disgrace among men.”

В шестой же месяц послан был ангел Гавриил от Бога в город Галилейский, по имени Назарет,

Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth,

к деве, обрученной мужу по имени Иосиф, из дома Давидова; и имя девы — Мариам.

to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the descendants of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.

И войдя к Ней, ангел сказал: радуйся, Благодатная! Господь с Тобою!

And coming in, he said to her, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.”

Она же была смущена этой речью и размышляла: что же это за приветствие?

But she was very perplexed at this statement, and kept pondering what kind of salutation this was.

И сказал Ей ангел: не бойся, Мариам, ибо Ты обрела благодать у Бога.

The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God.

И вот. Ты зачнешь во чреве и родишь Сына и наречешь имя Ему: Иисус.

“And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus.

Он будет велик, и Сыном Всевышнего будет назван, и даст Ему Господь Бог престол Давида, отца Его,

“He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David;

и будет царствовать над домом Иакова вовеки, и Царству Его не будет конца.

and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.”

Сказала же Мариам ангелу: как же будет это, раз Я мужа не знаю?

Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I am a virgin?”

И ответил Ей ангел: Дух Святой найдет на Тебя, и сила Всевышнего осенит Тебя; потому и рождаемое Святое названо будет Сыном Божиим.

The angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.

И вот Елисавета, родственница Твоя, и та зачала сына в старости своей, и этот месяц уже шестой для нее, которую называют неплодной,

“And behold, even your relative Elizabeth has also conceived a son in her old age; and she who was called barren is now in her sixth month.

ибо у Бога не останется бессильным никакое слово.

“For nothing will be impossible with God.”

Сказала же Мариам: вот — раба Господня; да будет Мне по слову твоему. И отошел от Нее ангел.

And Mary said, “Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

В эти дни Мариам, отправившись в путь, пошла с поспешностью в горную страну, в город Иудин,

Now at this time Mary arose and went in a hurry to the hill country, to a city of Judah,

и вошла в дом Захарии и приветствовала Елисавету.

and entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth.

И было: когда услышала Елисавета приветствие Марии, вострепетал младенец во чреве ее; и Елисавета исполнилась Духа Святого,

When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

и воскликнула громким голосом и сказала: благословенна Ты в женах, и благословен плод чрева Твоего!

And she cried out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!

И откуда это мне, что Мать Господа моего пришла ко мне?

“And how has it happened to me, that the mother of my Lord would come to me?

Ибо когда прозвучал голос приветствия Твоего в ушах моих, вострепетал в ликовании младенец во чреве моем,

“For behold, when the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy.

и блаженна Поверившая, что совершится сказанное Ей от Господа.

“And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what had been spoken to her by the Lord.”

И сказала Мариам: Величает душа Моя Господа,

And Mary said: “My soul exalts the Lord,

и возликовал дух Мой о Боге, Спасителе Моем,

And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.

что призрел Он на малость рабы Своей; ибо отныне будут называть Меня блаженной все роды;

“For He has had regard for the humble state of His bondslave; For behold, from this time on all generations will count me blessed.

что сотворил Мне великое Сильный, и свято имя Его,

“For the Mighty One has done great things for me; And holy is His name.

и милость Его в роды и роды боящимся Его;

“AND HIS MERCY IS UPON GENERATION AFTER GENERATION TOWARD THOSE WHO FEAR HIM.

соделал Он сильное рукою Своею, рассеял гордых в помышлениях сердца их;

“He has done mighty deeds with His arm; He has scattered those who were proud in the thoughts of their heart.

низложил властителей с престолов и возвысил смиренных;

“He has brought down rulers from their thrones, And has exalted those who were humble.

алчущих преисполнил благ; и богатых отослал ни с чем;

“HE HAS FILLED THE HUNGRY WITH GOOD THINGS; And sent away the rich empty-handed.

поддержал Израиля, отрока Своего, в память о милости —

“He has given help to Israel His servant, In remembrance of His mercy,

как Он сказал отцам нашим, — милости к Аврааму и семени его вовек.

As He spoke to our fathers, To Abraham and his descendants forever.”

Пробыла же Мариам с ней около трех месяцев и возвратилась в дом Свой.

And Mary stayed with her about three months, and then returned to her home.

Елисавете же настало время родить, и она родила сына,

Now the time had come for Elizabeth to give birth, and she gave birth to a son.

и услышали соседи и родственники ее, что умножил Господь милость Свою к ней, и радовались с нею.

Her neighbors and her relatives heard that the Lord had displayed His great mercy toward her; and they were rejoicing with her.

И было: в день восьмой пришли обрезать дитя, и хотели назвать его, по имени отца его, Захарией.

And it happened that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to call him Zacharias, after his father.

И мать его ответила: нет, но будет он назван Иоанном.

But his mother answered and said, “No indeed; but he shall be called John.”

И сказали ей: никого нет из родни твоей, кто назывался бы этим именем;

And they said to her, “There is no one among your relatives who is called by that name.”

и начали знаками задавать отцу его вопрос, как хотел бы он, чтобы называли его.

And they made signs to his father, as to what he wanted him called.

И попросив дощечку, он написал так: Иоанн — имя ему. И удивились все.

And he asked for a tablet and wrote as follows, “His name is John.” And they were all astonished.

И тотчас открылись уста его и язык, и он говорил, благословляя Бога.

And at once his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he began to speak in praise of God.

И был страх у всех живущих вокруг них, и по всей горной стране Иудейской шла молва о всём этом.

Fear came on all those living around them; and all these matters were being talked about in all the hill country of Judea.

И все слышавшие положили это на сердце свое и говорили: что же будет дитя это? Ибо рука Господня была с ним.

All who heard them kept them in mind, saying, “What then will this child turn out to be?” For the hand of the Lord was certainly with him.

И Захария, отец его, исполнился Духа Святого и пророчествовал, говоря:

And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying:

Благословен Господь Бог Израилев, что посетил и сотворил искупление народу Своему,

“Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, For He has visited us and accomplished redemption for His people,

и воздвиг нам рог спасения в доме Давида, отрока Своего, —

And has raised up a horn of salvation for us In the house of David His servant —

как Он сказал устами святых древних пророков Своих, —

As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from of old —

спасение от врагов наших и от руки всех ненавидящих нас:

Salvation FROM OUR ENEMIES, And FROM THE HAND OF ALL WHO HATE US;

сотворить милость отцам нашим и вспомнить завет Свой святой,

To show mercy toward our fathers, And to remember His holy covenant,

клятву, которою Он клялся Аврааму, отцу нашему,

The oath which He swore to Abraham our father,

чтобы безбоязненно, избавившись от руки врагов,

To grant us that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies, Might serve Him without fear,

служили мы Ему в святости и праведности, все дни наши пред Ним.

In holiness and righteousness before Him all our days.

И ты, дитя, пророком Всевышнего будешь названо, ибо ты будешь идти пред Ним, чтобы приготовить пути Ему,

“And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; For you will go on BEFORE THE LORD TO PREPARE HIS WAYS;

дать народу Его познать спасение в отпущении грехов их,

To give to His people the knowledge of salvation By the forgiveness of their sins,

по глубине милосердия Бога нашего, которым с высоты посетит нас Восходящее Светило,

Because of the tender mercy of our God, With which the Sunrise from on high will visit us,

воссиять сидящим во тьме и тени смерти, направить ноги наши на путь мира.

TO SHINE UPON THOSE WHO SIT IN DARKNESS AND THE SHADOW OF DEATH, To guide our feet into the way of peace.”

Дитя же возрастало и укреплялось духом. И был он в пустынях до дня явления его пред Израилем.

And the child continued to grow and to become strong in spirit, and he lived in the deserts until the day of his public appearance to Israel.
