Paul and Timotheus, bondmen of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, with [the] overseers and ministers;

Paulus und Timotheusⓐ, Knechte[1] Christi Jesuⓑ, allen Heiligen in Christus Jesusⓒ, die in Philippiⓓ sind, samt den Aufsehernⓔ und Dienernⓕ:

grace to you, and peace from God our Father and [the] Lord Jesus Christ.

Gnade euch und Friede von Gott, unserem Vater, und dem Herrn Jesus Christusⓖ!

I thank my God for my whole remembrance of you,

Ich danke meinem Gott bei jeder Erinnerung an euch

constantly in my every supplication, making the supplication for you all with joy,

allezeit in jedem meiner Gebete[2]ⓗ und bete für euch alle mit Freuden

because of your fellowship with the gospel, from the first day until now;

wegen eurer Teilnahme[3] am Evangelium vom ersten Tag an bis jetztⓘ.

having confidence of this very thing, that he who has begun in you a good work will complete it unto Jesus Christ's day:

Ich bin ebenso in guter Zuversicht, dass der, der ein gutes Werk in euch angefangen hat, es vollenden wirdⓙ bis auf den Tag Christi Jesuⓚ.

as it is righteous for me to think this as to you all, because ye have me in your hearts, and that both in my bonds and in the defence and confirmation of the glad tidings ye are all participators in my grace.

So ist es für mich recht, dass ich dies im Blick auf euch alle denke, weil ich euch im Herzen habe[4] und sowohl in meinen Fesseln als auch in der Verteidigung und Bekräftigung des Evangeliums ihr alle meine Mitteilhaber der Gnade seid.

For God is my witness how I long after you all in [the] bowels of Christ Jesus.

Denn Gott ist mein Zeugeⓛ, wie ich mich nach euch allen sehne mit ‹der› herzlichen ‹Liebe›[5] Christi Jesuⓜ.

And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in full knowledge and all intelligence,

Und um dieses bete ichⓝ, dass eure Liebe noch mehr und mehr überreich werdeⓞ in Erkenntnis und aller Einsichtⓟ,

that ye may judge of and approve the things that are more excellent, in order that ye may be pure and without offence for Christ's day,

damit ihr prüftⓠ, worauf es ankommt[6]ⓡ, damit ihr lauter und unanstößig seidⓢ auf den Tag Christiⓣ,

being complete as regards the fruit of righteousness, which [is] by Jesus Christ, to God's glory and praise.

erfüllt mit der Frucht der Gerechtigkeitⓤ, die durch Jesus Christus ‹gewirkt wird›ⓥ, zur Herrlichkeit und zum Lobpreis Gottes.

But I would have you know, brethren, that the circumstances in which I am have turned out rather to the furtherance of the glad tidings,

Ich will aber, dass ihr wisst, Brüder, dass meine Umstände[7] mehr zur Förderung des Evangeliums ausgeschlagen sindⓦ,

so that my bonds have become manifest [as being] in Christ in all the praetorium and to all others;

so dass meine Fesselnⓧ in Christus[8] im ganzen Prätorium[9] und bei allen anderen offenbar geworden sind

and that the most of the brethren, trusting in [the] Lord through my bonds, dare more abundantly to speak the word of God fearlessly.

und dass die meisten der Brüder im Herrn Vertrauen gewonnen haben durch meine Fesseln[10] und viel mehr wagen, das Wort Gottes ohne Furcht zu reden.

Some indeed also for envy and strife, but some also for good will, preach the Christ.

Einige zwar predigen Christus auch aus Neid und Streit, einige aber auch aus gutem Willen.

These indeed out of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the glad tidings;

Die einen aus Liebe, weil sie wissen, dass ich zur Verteidigung des Evangeliums eingesetzt binⓨ;

but those out of contention, announce the Christ, not purely, supposing to arouse tribulation for my bonds.

die anderen aus Eigennutz[11] verkündigen Christus nicht lauter, weil sie ‹mir in› meinen Fesseln Bedrängnis zu erwecken gedenken.

What is it then? at any rate, in every way, whether in pretext or in truth, Christ is announced; and in this I rejoice, yea, also I will rejoice;

Was ‹macht es› denn? Wird doch auf jede Weise, sei es aus Vorwand oder in Wahrheit, Christus verkündigt, und darüber freue ich mich. Ja, ich werde mich auch freuenⓩ,

for I know that this shall turn out for me to salvation, through your supplication and [the] supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ;

denn ich weiß, dass dies mir zum Heil[12] ausschlagen wirdⓐ durch euer Gebetⓑ und durch den Beistand[13] des Geistes Jesu Christi,

according to my earnest expectation and hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but in all boldness, as always, now also Christ shall be magnified in my body whether by life or by death.

nach meiner sehnlichen Erwartung und Hoffnung, dass ich in nichts werde zuschanden werdenⓒ, sondern mit aller Freimütigkeit, wie allezeit, so auch jetzt, Christus an[14] meinem Leib groß gemacht werden wirdⓓ, sei es durch Leben oder durch Tod.

For for me to live [is] Christ, and to die gain;

Denn das Leben ist für mich Christusⓔ und das Sterben Gewinnⓕ.

but if to live in flesh [is my lot], this is for me worth the while: and what I shall choose I cannot tell.

Wenn aber das Leben im Fleisch ‹mein Los ist›, ‹dann bedeutet› das für mich Frucht der Arbeit, und ‹dann› weiß ich nicht, was ich wählen soll.

But I am pressed by both, having the desire for departure and being with Christ, [for] [it is] very much better,

Ich werde aber von beidem bedrängt: Ich habe Lust[15], abzuscheiden und bei Christus zu seinⓖ, denn es ist weit besser[16];

but remaining in the flesh [is] more necessary for your sakes;

das Bleiben im Fleisch aber ist nötiger um euretwillen.

and having confidence of this, I know that I shall remain and abide along with you all, for your progress and joy in faith;

Und im Vertrauen hierauf weiß ich, dass ich bleiben und bei euch allen bleiben werdeⓗ zu eurer Förderungⓘ und Freude im Glaubenⓙ,

that your boasting may abound in Christ Jesus through me by my presence again with you.

damit euer Rühmen überreich werde in Christus Jesus durch mich bei meiner Rückkehr zu euch.

Only conduct yourselves worthily of the glad tidings of the Christ, in order that whether coming and seeing you, or absent, I may hear of what concerns you, that ye stand firm in one spirit, with one soul, labouring together in the same conflict with the faith of the glad tidings;

Wandelt[17] nur würdigⓚ des Evangeliums des Christus, damit ich, sei es, dass ich komme und euch sehe oder abwesend binⓛ, von euch[18] höre, dass ihr fest stehtⓜ in einem Geist und mit einer Seele zusammen für den Glauben des Evangeliums[19] kämpftⓝ

and not frightened in anything by the opposers, which is to them a demonstration of destruction, but of your salvation, and that from God;

und euch in nichts von den Widersachern erschrecken lasst, was für sie ein Beweis des Verderbens ist, aber eures Heils[20]ⓞ, und das von Gott her!

because to you has been given, as regards Christ, not only the believing on him but the suffering for him also,

Denn euch ist es im Blick auf Christus geschenkt worden, nicht allein an ihn zu glauben, sondern auch für ihn zu leidenⓟ,

having the same conflict which ye have seen in me, and now hear of in me.

da ihr denselben Kampf habt, wie ihr ihn an mir gesehen habtⓠ und jetzt von[21] mir hörtⓡ.
