And it came to pass after the death of Joshua that the children of Israel asked Jehovah, saying, Which of us shall go up against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?

После смерти Иисуса израильтяне спросили Господа: — Кому из нас первым идти воевать с хананеями?

And Jehovah said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.

Господь ответил: — Первым пусть идет Иуда; Я отдаю землю в его руки.

And Judah said to Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, and let us fight against the Canaanites, and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot; and Simeon went with him.

Тогда воины Иуды сказали своим братьям симеонитам: — Идите с нами в землю, которая нам досталась, воевать с хананеями. А потом мы, в свой черед, пойдем с вами в вашу землю. И симеониты пошли с ними.

And Judah went up; and Jehovah delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand, and they smote them in Bezek, ten thousand men.

Когда Иуда со своими людьми вышел на бой, Господь отдал хананеев и ферезеев в их руки, и они сразили в Везеке десять тысяч человек.

And they found Adoni-Bezek in Bezek, and fought against him, and they smote the Canaanites and the Perizzites.

Там они и нашли Адони-Везека, сразились с ним и разбили хананеев и ферезеев.

And Adoni-Bezek fled, and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.

Адони-Везек бежал, но они погнались за ним, схватили его и отрубили ему большие пальцы на руках и на ногах.

And Adoni-Bezek said, Seventy kings, with their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gleaned under my table: as I have done, so God has requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.

Адони-Везек сказал: — Семьдесят царей с отрубленными большими пальцами на руках и на ногах собирали крохи под моим столом. Теперь Бог воздал мне за то, что я сделал. Его отвели в Иерусалим, где он и умер.

And the children of Judah fought against Jerusalem, and took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.

Воины Иуды напали на Иерусалим и взяли его. Они предали город мечу и огню.

And afterwards the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the hill-country, and in the south, and in the lowland.

После этого воины Иуды отправились на битву с хананеями, которые жили в нагорьях, в Негеве и в западных предгорьях.

And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron -- the name of Hebron before was Kirjath-Arba; and they slew Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai.

Они выступили против хананеев Хеврона (прежде он назывался Кирьят-Арба) и разбили Шешая, Ахимана и Талмая[1].

And from there he went against the inhabitants of Debir; now the name of Debir before was Kirjath-sepher.

Оттуда они пошли на жителей Давира (который прежде назывался Кирьят-Сефер).

And Caleb said, He that smites Kirjath-sepher and takes it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter as wife.

Халев сказал: — Я отдам свою дочь Ахсу в жёны тому, кто нападет на Кирьят-Сефер и возьмет его.

And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it; and he gave him Achsah his daughter as wife.

Отниил, сын младшего брата Халева Кеназа,[2] взял его, и Халев отдал ему в жёны свою дочь Ахсу.

And it came to pass as she came, that she urged him to ask of her father the field; and she sprang down from the ass. And Caleb said to her, What wouldest thou?

Однажды, по дороге к отцу, она говорила с Отниилом, чтобы просить у её отца поле. Когда она слезла со своего осла, Халев спросил её: — Чего ты хочешь?

And she said to him, Give me a blessing; for thou hast given me a southern land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.

Она ответила: — Окажи мне особую милость. Ты дал мне землю в Негеве — так дай мне и источники воды. И Халев дал ей верхние и нижние источники.

And the children of the Kenite, Moses' father-in-law, had gone up out of the city of palm-trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which is in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt with the people.

Потомки тестя Моисея, кенея, пошли с народом Иуды из города Пальм[3] в пустыню Иуды, что в Негеве рядом с городом Арадом, и поселились среди народа.

And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it; and they called the name of the city Hormah.

Воины Иуды пошли со своими братьями симеонитами, напали на хананеев, которые жили в Цефате, и полностью уничтожили[4] город. Поэтому он получил название «Хорма».[5]

And Judah took Gazah and its border, and Ashkelon and its border, and Ekron and its border.

Ещё воины Иуды взяли[6] Газу, Ашкелон и Экрон с их окрестностями.

And Jehovah was with Judah; and he took possession of the hill-country, for he did not dispossess the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.

Господь был с воинами Иуды. Они овладели нагорьями, но не смогли прогнать жителей долин, потому что у тех были железные колесницы.

And they gave to Caleb Hebron, as Moses had said; and he dispossessed from thence the three sons of Anak.

Как и обещал Моисей, Хеврон был отдан Халеву, который прогнал оттуда троих сыновей Анака.

And the children of Benjamin did not dispossess the Jebusites, the inhabitants of Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day.

Вениамитяне не смогли выселить иевусеев, которые жили в Иерусалиме; иевусеи живут там с вениамитянами до сегодняшнего дня.

And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Bethel; and Jehovah was with them.

Дом Иосифа напал на Вефиль, и Господь был с ними.

And the house of Joseph sent to search out Bethel; now the name of the city before was Luz.

Когда они послали лазутчиков разведать Вефиль (прежде он назывался Луз),

And the guards saw a man come forth out of the city, and said unto him, Shew us, we pray thee, how [we] may enter into the city, and we will shew thee kindness.

лазутчики увидели мужчину, выходящего из города, и сказали ему: — Покажи нам, как попасть в город, и мы обойдемся с тобой хорошо.

And he shewed them how to enter into the city. And they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family.

Он показал им, и они предали город мечу, но пощадили того человека и всю его семью.

And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called its name Luz, which is its name to this day.

Этот человек пошел в землю хеттов, где построил город, который назвал Луз — так он называется и до сегодняшнего дня.

And Manasseh did not dispossess Beth-shean and its dependent villages, nor Taanach and its dependent villages, nor the inhabitants of Dor and its dependent villages, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and its dependent villages, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and its dependent villages; and the Canaanites would dwell in that land.

Но Манассия не прогнал жителей Бет-Шеана, Таанаха, Дора, Ивлеама и Мегиддо и окрестных деревень, и в этой земле продолжали жить хананеи.

And it came to pass when Israel became strong, that they made the Canaanites tributary; but they did not utterly dispossess them.

Когда Израиль окреп, они сделали хананеев подневольными, но не изгнали их полностью.

And Ephraim did not dispossess the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt among them in Gezer.

И Ефрем не прогнал хананеев, которые жили в городе Гезере, и хананеи продолжали жить там среди них.

Zebulun did not dispossess the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries.

И Завулон не прогнал хананеев, живших в Китроне и в Нагалоле, которые остались среди них, но сделались подневольными.

Asher did not dispossess the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor Ahlab, nor Achzib, nor Helbah, nor Aphik, nor Rehob;

И Асир не изгнал жителей Акко, Сидона, Ахлава, Ахзива, Хелвы, Афека и Рехова;

and the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; for they did not dispossess them.

и поэтому народ Асира жил среди хананеев, обитателей той земли.

Naphtali did not dispossess the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath; and he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, but the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and of Beth-anath became tributaries to them.

И Неффалим не прогнал жителей Бет-Шемеша и Бет-Анафа: неффалимиты жили среди хананеев, обитателей той земли, а жителей Бет-Шемеша и Бет-Анафа сделали подневольными.

And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the hill-country, for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley.

Данитянам аморреи отрезали путь с нагорий в долину.

And the Amorites would dwell on mount Heres, in Ajalon and in Shaalbim; but the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, and they became tributaries.

Аморреи продолжали жить на горе Херес, в городе Айялоне и поселении Шаалвиме, но когда сила дома Иосифа возросла, они тоже стали подневольными.

And the border of the Amorites was from the ascent of Akrabbim, from the rock, and upwards.

Граница аморреев шла от Скорпионовой возвышенности[7], от Селы и далее.
