Павел, раб Божий и апостол Иисуса Христа по вере тех, кто избран Богом, кто познал истину, ведущую к благочестию.

Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ to further the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness —

Они надеются на вечную жизнь, которую Бог без обмана обещал нам еще прежде начала мироздания,

in the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time,

и в должное время открыл нам — проповедь о ней Спаситель наш Бог доверил и поручил мне.

and which now at his appointed season he has brought to light through the preaching entrusted to me by the command of God our Savior,

Титу, истинному своему сыну по общей нашей вере, желаю благодати и мира от Бога Отца и Христа Иисуса, Спасителя нашего.

To Titus, my true son in our common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.

Для того я оставил тебя на Крите, чтобы ты завершил, что осталось сделать, и поставил в каждом городе пресвитера. О них я тебе повелел:

The reason I left you in Crete was that you might put in order what was left unfinished and appointa elders in every town, as I directed you.

пресвитер должен быть безупречен, женат на единственной женщине, и дети должны быть у него верными, не повинные в распущенности или своеволии.

An elder must be blameless, faithful to his wife, a man whose children believeb and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient.

Епископ управляет Божьим народом и должен быть безупречен: выбирай из тех, кому привычны не дерзость, гнев, пьянство, драки и бесчестная нажива —

Since an overseer manages God’s household, he must be blameless — not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain.

а гостеприимство, доброжелательность, благоразумие, справедливость, чистота, умеренность.

Rather, he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined.

Пусть он сохраняет то верное слово, которому был научен, и может наставить в здравом учении и обличить тех, кто ему противится.

He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.

Много ведь есть непокорных болтунов и обманщиков, особенно среди обрезанных.

For there are many rebellious people, full of meaningless talk and deception, especially those of the circumcision group.

Нужно затыкать рот тем, кто сбивает с пути целые семьи, кто учит, чему не следует — и всё ради бесчестной наживы.

They must be silenced, because they are disrupting whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach — and that for the sake of dishonest gain.

Был среди них один пророк, сам из их числа, и он сказал: «Критяне лгут всегда, злые звери, лентяи, обжоры».

One of Crete’s own prophets has said it: “Cretans are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons.”c

Это пророчество истинно, и поэтому обличай их сурово, чтобы обратить к здравой вере.

This saying is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith

Пусть они не обращают внимания на иудейские басни и на требования людей, которые отвернулись от истины.

and will pay no attention to Jewish myths or to the merely human commands of those who reject the truth.

Для чистых всё чисто, а для оскверненных и неверных нет ничего чистого. У них осквернены и разум, и совесть:

To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted.

они заявляют, что знают Бога, но на деле отрекаются от Него — гнусные, ненадежные, ни к чему доброму не годные люди.

They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.
