Симеон Петр, раб и апостол Иисуса Христа — тем, кто принял ту же драгоценную веру, что и мы. Праведен Бог наш, как и Спаситель Иисус Христос!

This letter is from Simona Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ. I am writing to you who share the same precious faith we have. This faith was given to you because of the justice and fairnessb of Jesus Christ, our God and Savior.

Пусть умножатся у вас благодать и мир, всё полнее познавайте Бога и Иисуса, Господа нашего!

May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.

Он даровал нам Божественной силой всё, что требуется для благочестивой жизни, открыл нам Того, Кто нас призвал Своей славой и добродетелью.

By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.

Так мы получили от Него величайшие и драгоценные обещания, так что теперь вы можете быть причастны Божественной природе и избежать гибели — ведь именно к ней влекут этот мир его желания.

And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.

А теперь уж вы сами проявите усердие: к вере вашей добавьте добродетель, к добродетели познание,

In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge,

к познанию воздержанность, к воздержанности стойкость, к стойкости благочестие,

and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness,

к благочестию дружелюбие, а к дружелюбию — любовь.

and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone.

Если эти качества проявляются в вас и растут, они не оставят вас без действия и без плода на пути познания Господа нашего Иисуса Христа.

The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

А кому их недостает, тот близорук и просто слеп: он забыл, что прежние его грехи уже прощены.

But those who fail to develop in this way are shortsighted or blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their old sins.

Тем более постарайтесь, братья, делами подтвердить, что вы призваны и избраны — и если будете так поступать, никогда не споткнетесь,

So, dear brothers and sisters,c work hard to prove that you really are among those God has called and chosen. Do these things, and you will never fall away.

и вам будет широко открыт вход в вечное царство Господа нашего и Спасителя Иисуса Христа.

Then God will give you a grand entrance into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Потому я постоянно буду вам об этом напоминать, хотя вы и так это знаете и твердо держитесь истины, которую приняли.

Therefore, I will always remind you about these things — even though you already know them and are standing firm in the truth you have been taught.

Я считаю правильным вам это напоминать и так ободрять вас, пока обитаю в шатре смертного тела.

And it is only right that I should keep on reminding you as long as I live.d

Я ведь знаю, что очень скоро мне предстоит переселиться из этого шатра, как открыл мне и Господь наш Иисус Христос.

For our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me that I must soon leave this earthly life,e

Так что постараюсь, чтобы и после моего ухода вы почаще об этом вспоминали.

so I will work hard to make sure you always remember these things after I am gone.

Когда мы повествовали вам, какая сила явилась в пришествии Господа нашего Иисуса Христа, это не был пересказ чьих-то изощренных россказней — нет, мы сами стали свидетелями Его величия.

For we were not making up clever stories when we told you about the powerful coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We saw his majestic splendor with our own eyes

От Бога Отца Он принял честь и славу, ведь это о Нем произнес голос великолепный и славный: «Он — Сын Мой возлюбленный, к Нему я благоволю».

when he received honor and glory from God the Father. The voice from the majestic glory of God said to him, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”f

Этот голос прозвучал с небес, его слышали и мы, кто был вместе с Ним на святой горе.

We ourselves heard that voice from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain.

Есть у нас самое надежное пророческое слово, и вы прекрасно делаете, что прислушиваетесь к нему. Оно как светильник, который светит в мрачной тьме, пока не разгорится день и не взойдет в ваших сердцах утренняя звезда.

Because of that experience, we have even greater confidence in the message proclaimed by the prophets. You must pay close attention to what they wrote, for their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place — until the Day dawns, and Christ the Morning Star shinesg in your hearts.

Прежде всего знайте, что никакое пророчество нельзя истолковать самому пророку:

Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding,h

ведь пророчество приходило не по воле человека — оно от Бога, его произносили люди по действию Духа Святого.

or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.
