Paulus und Silvanus und Timotheus der Gemeinde[1] der Thessalonicher in Gott, unserem Vater, und dem Herrn Jesus Christusⓐ:

Paul and Silvanus and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:

Gnade euch und Friede von Gott, dem Vater, und dem Herrn Jesus Christusⓑ!

Grace to you and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Wir müssen Gott allezeit für euch danken[2]ⓒ, Brüder, wie es angemessen ist, weil euer Glaube reichlich wächst und die Liebe zueinander bei jedem Einzelnen von euch allen zunimmtⓓ,

We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brethren, as is only fitting, because your faith is greatly enlarged, and the love of each one of you toward one another grows ever greater;

so dass wir selbst uns euer rühmenⓔ in den Gemeinden[3] Gottes wegen eures Ausharrens und Glaubens[4] in allen euren Verfolgungen und Bedrängnissen, die ihr erduldetⓕ;

therefore, we ourselves speak proudly of you among the churches of God for your perseverance and faith in the midst of all your persecutions and afflictions which you endure.

‹sie sind› ein Anzeichen[5] des gerechten Gerichts Gottesⓖ, dass ihr des Reiches[6] Gottes gewürdigt werdet[7]ⓗ, um dessentwillen ihr auch leidetⓘ,

This is a plain indication of God’s righteous judgment so that you will be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which indeed you are suffering.

so gewiss es bei Gott gerecht ist, denen, die euch bedrängen, mit Bedrängnis zu vergelten[8]ⓙ,

For after all it is only just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you,

und euch, den Bedrängten, mit Ruhe, zusammen mit uns bei der Offenbarung des Herrn Jesusⓚ vom Himmel her mit den Engeln seiner Machtⓛ,

and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire,

in flammendem Feuerⓜ. Dabei übt er Vergeltung an denen, die Gott nicht kennenⓝ, und an denen, die dem Evangelium unseres Herrn Jesus nicht gehorchenⓞ;

dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.

sie werden Strafe leiden, ewiges Verderben vom Angesicht des Herrn und von der Herrlichkeit seiner Stärke[9]ⓟ,

These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,

wenn er kommtⓠ, um an jenem Tag in seinen Heiligenⓡ verherrlicht und in allen denen bewundert zu werden, die geglaubt habenⓢ; denn unser Zeugnis an euch ist geglaubt wordenⓣ.

when He comes to be glorified in His saints on that day, and to be marveled at among all who have believed — for our testimony to you was believed.

Deshalb beten wir auch allezeit für euchⓤ, dass unser Gott euch würdig erachte der Berufungⓥ und ‹dass er› alles Wohlgefallenⓦ an der Güte und das Werk des Glaubens in Kraft vollendeⓧ,

To this end also we pray for you always, that our God will count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faith with power,

damit der Name unseres Herrn Jesus in euchⓨ verherrlicht werdeⓩ und ihr in ihm nach der Gnade unseres Gottes und des Herrn Jesus Christus.

so that the name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
