Der Ältesteⓐ der auserwählten Herrin und ihren Kindern, die ich liebe in ‹der› Wahrheitⓑ; und nicht ich allein, sondern auch alle, die die Wahrheit erkannt habenⓒ,

The Elder, To the [a]elect lady and her children, whom I love in truth, and not only I, but also all those who have known the truth,

um der Wahrheit willen, die in uns bleibt und mit uns sein wird in Ewigkeit[1].

because of the truth which abides in us and will be with us forever:

Mit uns wird sein: Gnade, Barmherzigkeitⓓ, Friedeⓔ von Gott, dem Vater, und von Jesus Christus, dem Sohn des Vaters, in Wahrheit und Liebeⓕ.

Grace, mercy, and peace will be with [b]you from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

Ich habe mich sehr gefreut, dass ich von deinen Kindern ‹einige› gefunden habeⓖ, die in der Wahrheit wandeln, wie wir von dem Vater ein Gebot empfangen habenⓗ.

I rejoiced greatly that I have found some of your children walking in truth, as we received commandment from the Father.

Und nun bitte ich dich, Herrin, — nicht als schriebe ich dir ein neues Gebot, sondern das, welches wir von Anfang an gehabt haben: dass wir einander liebenⓘ.

And now I plead with you, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment to you, but that which we have had from the beginning: that we love one another.

Und dies ist die Liebe, dass wir nach seinen Geboten wandelnⓙ. Dies ist das Gebot, wie ihr es von Anfang an gehört habt, dass ihr darin wandeln sollt.

This is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, that as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it.

Denn viele Verführer sind in die Welt hinausgegangen, die nicht Jesus Christus, im Fleisch gekommen[2], bekennen; dies ist der Verführer und der Antichristⓚ.

For many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

Seht auf euch selbstⓛ, damit ihr nicht verliert, was wir erarbeitet habenⓜ, sondern vollen Lohn empfangtⓝ!

Look to yourselves, that [c]we do not lose those things we worked for, but that we may receive a full reward.

Jeder, der weitergeht und nicht in der Lehre des Christus bleibt, hat Gott nichtⓞ; wer in der Lehre bleibt, der hat sowohl den Vater als auch den Sohnⓟ.

Whoever [d]transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son.

Wenn jemand zu euch kommt und diese Lehre nicht bringt, so nehmt ihn nicht ins Haus auf und grüßt ihn nichtⓠ!

If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him;

Denn wer ihn grüßt, nimmt teil an seinen bösen Werkenⓡ.

for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds.

Obwohl ich euch vieles zu schreiben habe, wollte ich es nicht mit Papier und Tinte ‹tun›, sondern ich hoffe, zu euch zu kommen und mündlich[3] ‹mit euch› zu redenⓢ, damit unsere Freude vollkommen seiⓣ.

Having many things to write to you, I did not wish to do so with paper and ink; but I hope to come to you and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.

Es grüßen dich die Kinder deiner auserwählten Schwester.

The children of your elect sister greet you. Amen.
