Это слова Иеремии, сына Хелкии. Иеремия был из семьи священников, которые жили в городе Анафоф, расположенном на земле Вениамина.

The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkijah, of the priests that were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin:

Господь говорил с Иеремией в те дни, когда царём иудейского народа был Иосия, сын Амона. Господь говорил с Иеремией на тринадцатом году царствования Иосии.

to whom the word of Jehovah came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign;

Господь продолжал говорить с Иеремией во времена, когда царём Иудеи стал Иоаким, сын Иосии. Господь продолжал говорить с Иеремией на протяжении одиннадцати лет и пяти месяцев во время царствования Седекии, который тоже был сыном Иосии. В конце царствования Седекии началось изгнание народа из Иерусалима.

it came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, unto the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah, king of Judah, unto the carrying away of Jerusalem captive, in the fifth month.

Слово Господа пришло ко мне, Иеремии:

And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

«Я знал тебя задолго до того, как сотворил тебя во чреве материнском. Тебя узнал Я до рождения твоего. Тебя пророком для народов Я избрал».

Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I hallowed thee, I appointed thee a prophet unto the nations.

Тогда Иеремия отвечал: «Господь Всемогущий, я не умею говорить, ведь я ещё слишком молод».

And I said, Alas, Lord Jehovah! behold, I cannot speak; for I am a child.

Но Господь ответил мне: «Не говори о молодости, ты пойдёшь туда, куда Я тебя пошлю. Ты скажешь всё, что Я тебе велю.

But Jehovah said unto me, Say not, I am a child; for thou shalt go to whomsoever I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.

Не бойся никого, так как Я всегда с тобой, и от всех тебя Я защищу». Так Сам Господь сказал Иеремии.

Be not afraid of them; for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith Jehovah.

Затем Господь коснулся уст моих и так сказал: «Мои слова отныне вкладываю Я в твои уста.

And Jehovah put forth his hand and touched my mouth; and Jehovah said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.

Сегодня Я назначаю тебя главою над царствами и народами. Ты будешь разорять и искоренять, свергать и рушить, насаждать и строить».

See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to pluck up, and to break down, and to destroy, and to overthrow, to build and to plant.

И слово Господа ко мне пришло: «Иеремия, что ты видишь?» Я ответил, что вижу посох, вырезанный из ветви миндального дерева.

And the word of Jehovah came to me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond-tree.

Господь сказал: «Ты не ошибся, ты правильно всё увидел, а Я прослежу, чтобы исполнились Мои слова».

And Jehovah said unto me, Thou hast well seen; for I am watchful over my word to perform it.

Вновь весть от Господа пришла ко мне: «Иеремия, что ты видишь?» Я ответил, что вижу закипающий котёл, который с северного края чуть наклонён.

And the word of Jehovah came to me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a seething-pot, and its face is from the north.

И мне Господь сказал, что с севера придёт большое бедствие, которое коснётся всех жителей этой земли.

And Jehovah said unto me, Out of the north shall evil break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.

«Я созову в кратчайший срок, — сказал Господь, — всех северных царей. Они придут и воссядут на своих тронах у ворот Иерусалима, и нападут на его стены и на все города в Иудее.

For behold, I am calling all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith Jehovah, and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah:

И объявлю Я решение против Моих людей за то, что отвернулись от Меня и поклонялись, жертвы воздавая, рукотворным идолам своим.

and I will pronounce my judgments against them for all their wickedness, in that they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.

Ты же, Иеремия, будь готов, вставай и говори с народом, скажи всё то, что Я тебе велел. Людей не бойся, а иначе Я дам тебе настоящий повод бояться их.

Thou, therefore, gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I shall command thee: be not dismayed at them, lest I cause thee to be dismayed before them.

Я же сделаю тебя крепким, словно укреплённый город, или столп железный, или бронзовая стена, чтобы устоял ты перед кем угодно: перед царями иудейскими, правителями, священниками и народом Иудеи.

And I, behold, I appoint thee this day as a strong city, and an iron pillar, and brazen walls, against the whole land; against the kings of Judah, against its princes, against its priests, and against the people of the land.

Все они будут против тебя, но одолеть тебя не смогут, поскольку Я с тобой и Я тебя спасу». Такой была весть от Господа.

And they shall fight against thee, but they shall not prevail against thee: for I am with thee, saith Jehovah, to deliver thee.
