Во второй год царствования персидского царя Дария, в первый день шестого месяца, пророк Аггей услышал слово Господа. Это слово было к Зоровавелю, сыну Салафииля, и к Иисусу, сыну Иоседека. Зоровавель был правителем Иудеи, а Иисус был первосвященником. Вот что Господь Всемогущий сказал:

In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, came the word of Jehovah by the prophet Haggai unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,

«Народ говорит, что ещё не время строить храм Господа».

Thus speaketh Jehovah of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that Jehovah's house should be built.

И тогда Господь снова обратился через пророка Аггея с такими словами:

And the word of Jehovah came by Haggai the prophet, saying,

«Вы думаете, что можете жить в хороших домах с красиво отделанными стенами, в то время, когда дом Господа всё ещё лежит в руинах!»

Is it time for you that ye should dwell in your wainscoted houses, while this house lieth waste?

И теперь Господь Всемогущий говорит: «Подумайте о том, что происходит!

And now thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Consider your ways.

Вы много посеяли, а урожай собрали маленький; у вас есть пища, но вы едите не досыта; пьёте вы, но не напиваетесь; есть у вас одежда, но вы не можете в ней согреться; вы зарабатываете деньги, но не знаете, куда всё уходит, как будто в кармане дыра!»

Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but are not satisfied; ye drink, but are not filled with drink; ye clothe yourselves, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages for a bag with holes.

Господь Всемогущий говорит: «Подумайте о том, что делаете!

Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Consider your ways.

Идите в горы и принесите оттуда брёвна для строительства храма. Вот тогда Я буду доволен и прославлен». Так сказал Господь:

Go up to the mountain and bring wood, and build the house, and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith Jehovah.

«Вы ожидаете богатый урожай, но когда собираете его, то оказывается, что зерна очень мало. Вы приносите его домой, а Я посылаю ветер, который развеивает всё зерно! Почему же так происходит? Потому что Мой дом всё ещё в запустении, тогда как каждый из вас спешит позаботиться о своём доме!

Ye looked for much, and behold it was little; and when ye brought it home, I blew upon it. Wherefore? saith Jehovah of hosts. Because of my house that lieth waste, whilst ye run every man to his own house.

Вот почему небо закрылось и не посылает вам росы, а земля не даёт урожая.

Therefore over you the heavens withhold their dew, and the earth withholdeth its fruit.

Я призвал засуху на землю и горы. Зерно, молодое вино, оливковое масло и всё, что родит земля, будет уничтожено! И все люди, и весь скот ослабеют».

And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon man, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.

Господь Бог послал Аггея поговорить с Зоровавелем, сыном Салафииля, и с первосвященником Иисусом, сыном Иоседека. Тогда они и весь народ послушали Господа Бога и слова пророка Аггея. Народ показал своё благоговение перед Господом и почтение к Нему.

And Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and all the remnant of the people, hearkened to the voice of Jehovah their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, according as Jehovah their God had sent him, and the people feared before Jehovah.

Аггей, вестник Господа, передал Его слова народу: «Господь говорит: „Я с вами!”»

Then spoke Haggai, Jehovah's messenger, in Jehovah's message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith Jehovah.

В то время, когда Зоровавель, сын Салафииля, был правителем Иудеи, а Иисус, сын Иоседека, был первосвященником, Господь вдохновил их, а также весь народ на строительство храма Господу Всемогущему. Они начали работу по строительству храма

And Jehovah stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and worked at the house of Jehovah of hosts, their God,

в двадцать четвёртый день шестого месяца, на второй год царствования Дария, царя Персии.

in the four and twentieth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.
