Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.

Всякий, кто верит, что Иисус — Мессия, от Бога рожден; и всякий, кто Родившего любит, любит [и] дитя Его.1

By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.

О том, что в самом деле любим детей Божьих, узнаём из того, что любим Бога и заповеди Его соблюдаем.

For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

Ведь любить Бога и значит соблюдать Его заповеди. А заповеди Его не тяжки,

For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

ибо всё, от Бога рожденное, одерживает верх над миром. И всякая такая победа над миром — победа веры нашей.

Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

Не тот ли побеждает мир, кто верит, что Иисус — Сын Божий?

This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.

Вот Кто пришел водой крещения и кровью распятия 2 — Иисус Христос; не одной лишь водой пришел, но водою и кровью; Дух тому свидетель, а Дух ведь сама истина.

For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

Итак, три есть свидетеля:3

And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

Дух, вода и кровь — и в свидетельстве своем эти три едины.

If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.

Если свидетельство людей принимаем, то еще больше верим свидетельству Божию, тому свидетельству, которое Бог Сам дал о Сыне Своем.

He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

Кто верит в Сына Божьего, в себе самом несет4 это свидетельство. Кто же Богу не верит, тот лжецом Его выставляет, не принимая5 свидетельства, которое дал Бог о Сыне Своем.

And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

Вот это свидетельство: Бог вечную жизнь дал нам, и жизнь эта — в Сыне Его.

He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

Кто верою Сына обрел, тот жизнь обрел; а кто отвергает Сына Божьего, тот отвергает жизнь.

These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

Я написал всё это вам, верующим во имя Сына Божия, чтобы знали вы, что обрели вы жизнь вечную.

And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

Мы смело обращаемся к Нему в уверенности, что Он слышит нас, о чем бы ни просили мы Его, сообразуясь с волей Его.

And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

И если знаем, что Он слышит нас, когда мы просим Его о чем-либо, знаем и другое: стоит попросить у Него что-то — оно уже наше.

If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.

Если увидит кто из вас брата своего, грех совершающего, но не к смерти ведущий грех, пусть молится за него, и Бог даст ему жизнь. Но это только тех касается, кто согрешает грехом, не к смерти ведущим. Есть смертный грех: не такой я имею в виду, говоря, чтобы вы молились.

All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.

Хотя всякая неправда6 — грех, однако не всякий грех к смерти ведет.

We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

Рожденный от Бога, как нам известно, не грешит, ибо хранит его Сын Божий,7 и лукавый не смеет прикасаться к нему.

And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.

О себе мы знаем, что от Бога мы. А весь мир — во власти дьявола.8

And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

Но знаем также, что Сын Божий, когда приходил, даровал нам разумение, чтобы познали мы Истинного. И вот мы — в Нем, в Истине самой,9 и в Сыне Его, Иисусе Христе. Он есть истинный Бог и жизнь вечная.

Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

Бегите ложных богов, дети мои.
