5 The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras.
6 And the sons of Gomer; Ashchenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah.
7 And the sons of Javan; Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.
Descendants of Ham
8 The sons of Ham; Cush, and Mizraim, Put, and Canaan.

The Rulers of Edom
43 Now these are the kings that reigned in the land of Edom before any king reigned over the children of Israel; Bela the son of Beor: and the name of his city was Dinhabah.
44 And when Bela was dead, Jobab the son of Zerah of Bozrah reigned in his stead.
45 And when Jobab was dead, Husham of the land of the Temanites reigned in his stead.
46 And when Husham was dead, Hadad the son of Bedad, which smote Midian in the field of Moab, reigned in his stead: and the name of his city was Avith.
47 And when Hadad was dead, Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his stead.
48 And when Samlah was dead, Shaul of Rehoboth by the river reigned in his stead.
49 And when Shaul was dead, Baalhanan the son of Achbor reigned in his stead.
50 And when Baalhanan was dead, Hadad reigned in his stead: and the name of his city was Pai; and his wife's name was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, the daughter of Mezahab.
51 Hadad died also. And the dukes of Edom were; duke Timnah, duke Aliah, duke Jetheth,
52 Duke Aholibamah, duke Elah, duke Pinon,
53 Duke Kenaz, duke Teman, duke Mibzar,
54 Duke Magdiel, duke Iram. These are the dukes of Edom.

1:1 — 9:34 Родословие народа Божиего. История избрания народа Божиего и его племенной организации предстает в многолюдных родословиях и всевозможных перечнях. Весь материал может быть разделен на три основных части: от Адама до Израиля и его сыновей (1:1 — 2:2), двенадцать колен Израилевых (2:3 — 9:1), возвратившиеся из вавилонского плена (9:1−34). В них описывается избрание Богом Израиля из числа всех населявших землю народов, устройство, назначенное Богом Своему народу, и продолжение избранного народа в лице возвратившихся из плена.
1:1 — 2:2 Опираясь на книгу Бытие, летописец прослеживает историю избрания Богом Израиля из числа прочих народов. Его рассказ идет от Адама к Ною (1:1−3), далее, к потомкам Ноя (1:4−27) и потомкам Авраама (1:28 — 2:2).
1:1−3 Летописец кратко излагает историю человечества до потопа, упоминая лишь наиболее выдающихся представителей избранной линии.
1:4−27 Рассказом о сыновьях Ноя летописец показывает, как одни народы были выделены Богом среди прочих. О каждом из сыновей — Иафете, Хаме, Симе — и его потомстве говорится в отдельности. Летописец в последнюю очередь рассказывает об избранной линии. Из потомков Ноя только представители линии Сима (семиты) вступили в заветные отношения с Богом.
1:5−7 Сыновья Иафета. Называя всех семерых (1:5), летописец только о двух его сыновьях — Гомере и Иаване — рассказывает подробнее (1:6−7).
1:5 Сыновья. Слово «сыновья» в данном случае указывает прежде всего на культурно-территориальные связи (см. Введение: Характерные особенности и темы).
1:8−16 Сыновья Хама. Потомкам Хама летописец уделяет большее внимание, нежели потомкам Иафета, поскольку с первыми Израилю приходилось иметь дело значительно чаще, чем со вторыми. Назвав четверых сыновей Хама, он затем сообщает сведения о потомках троих из них: Хуша (1:9−10), Мицраима (1:11−12) и Ханаана (12:13−16).
1:17−27 Сыновья Сима. Летописец прослеживает, как сужается область Божественного избранничества — от всех потомков Сима до одного рода Авраамова.
1:24 Арфаксад... Сала. См. ком. к Быт 11:10.
1:28 — 2:2 Сыновья Авраама. И из потомков Авраама одни были избраны Богом, другие нет. Как и прежде, летописец сначала говорит о неизбранных (1:29−33) и только затем о избранной линии Исаака (1:34 — 2:2).
1:29−31 Измаилов. См. ком. к Быт 25:12−16. Следуя книге Бытие, летописец не включает потомков Измаила в число народа завета. Измаил был благословлен Богом (Быт 16:11−12), но не стал наследником завета благодати, который Бог заключил с Авраамом (Быт 17:18−21).
1:32−33 Сыновья Хеттуры. Потомки Авраама от его наложницы Хеттуры, в отличие от Исаака и его потомков, не наследовали обетования.
1:34 — 2:2 Сыновья Исаака: Исав и Израиль. Избранная линия Исаака разделяется на две: Исава (1:35−54) и Израиля (Иакова; 2:1−2). Исав продал право первородства младшему брату Иакову, и тот таким образом стал наследником обетования (Быт 25:27−34; Быт 27:1−40).
1:35−54 Сыновья Исава. Летописец сообщает о потомках Исава (1:35−37), сыновьях Сеира (1:38−42) и правителях Едома (1:43−54). См. Быт 36:10−43.
