Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,

Paulus, ein Apostel JEsu Christi durch den Willen GOttes nach der Verheißung des Lebens in Christo JEsu:

To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

Meinem lieben Sohn Timotheus Gnade, Barmherzigkeit, Friede von GOtt dem Vater und Christo JEsu, unserm HErrn.

I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day;

Ich danke GOtt dem ich diene von meinen Voreltern her in reinem Gewissen, daß ich ohne Unterlaß dein gedenke in meinem Gebet Tag und Nacht.

Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;

Und mich verlanget, dich zu sehen, wenn ich denke an deine Tränen, auf daß ich mit Freuden erfüllet werde.

When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.

Und erinnere mich des ungefärbten Glaubens in dir, welcher zuvor gewohnet hat in deiner Großmutter Lois und in deiner Mutter Eunike, bin aber gewiß, daß auch in dir.

Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

Um welcher Sache willen ich dich erinnere, daß du erweckest die Gabe GOttes, die in dir ist durch die Auflegung meiner Hände.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Denn GOtt hat uns nicht gegeben den Geist der Furcht, sondern der Kraft und der Liebe und der Zucht.

Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;

Darum so schäme dich nicht des Zeugnisses unsers HErrn noch meiner, der ich sein Gebundener bin, sondern leide dich mit dem Evangelium wie ich nach der Kraft GOttes,

Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

der uns hat selig gemacht und berufen mit einem heiligen Ruf, nicht nach unsern Werken, sondern nach seinem Vorsatz und Gnade, die uns gegeben ist in Christo JEsu vor der Zeit der Welt,

But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

jetzt aber offenbart durch die Erscheinung unsers Heilandes JEsu Christi, der dem Tode die Macht hat genommen und das Leben und ein unvergänglich Wesen ans Licht gebracht durch das Evangelium,

Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.

zu welchem ich gesetzt bin ein Prediger und Apostel und Lehrer der Heiden.

For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

Um welcher Sache willen ich solches leide, aber ich schäme mich's nicht; denn ich weiß, an wen ich glaube, und bin gewiß, daß er kann mir meine Beilage bewahren bis an jenen Tag.

Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

Halt an dem Vorbilde der heilsamen Worte, die du von mir gehört hast, vom Glauben und von der Liebe in Christo JEsu.

That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.

Diese gute Beilage bewahre durch den Heiligen Geist, der in uns wohnet.

This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.

Das weißt du, daß sich gewendet haben von mir alle, die in Asien sind, unter welchen ist Phygellus und Hermogenes.

The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain:

Der HErr gebe Barmherzigkeit dem Hause Onesiphorus; denn er hat mich oft erquicket und hat sich meiner Ketten nicht geschämet,

But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me.

sondern da er zu Rom war, suchte er mich aufs fleißigste und fand mich.

The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.

Der HErr gebe ihm, daß er finde Barmherzigkeit bei dem HErrn an jenem Tage! Und wieviel er mir zu Ephesus gedienet hat, weißt du am besten.
