Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile an account of the things accomplished among us,

Как уже́ мно́гие на́чали составля́ть повествова́ния о соверше́нно изве́стных ме́жду на́ми собы́тиях,

just as they were handed down to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word,

как переда́ли нам то бы́вшие с са́мого нача́ла очеви́дцами и служи́телями Сло́ва,

it seemed fitting for me as well, having investigated everything carefully from the beginning, to write it out for you in consecutive order, most excellent Theophilus;

то рассуди́лось и мне, по тща́тельном иссле́довании всего́ снача́ла, по поря́дку описа́ть тебе́, достопочте́нный Феофи́л,

so that you may know the exact truth about the things you have been taught.

что́бы ты узна́л твёрдое основа́ние того́ уче́ния, в кото́ром был наста́влен.

In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abijah; and he had a wife from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.

Во дни И́рода, царя́ Иуде́йского, был свяще́нник из А́виевой чреды́, и́менем Заха́рия, и жена́ его́ из ро́да Ааро́нова, и́мя ей Елисаве́та.

They were both righteous in the sight of God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and requirements of the Lord.

О́ба они́ бы́ли пра́ведны пред Бо́гом, поступа́я по всем за́поведям и уста́вам Госпо́дним беспоро́чно.

But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both advanced in years.

У них не́ бы́ло дете́й, и́бо Елисаве́та была́ непло́дна, и о́ба бы́ли уже́ в лета́х прекло́нных.

Now it happened that while he was performing his priestly service before God in the appointed order of his division,

Одна́жды, когда́ он в поря́дке свое́й чреды́ служи́л пред Бо́гом,

according to the custom of the priestly office, he was chosen by lot to enter the temple of the Lord and burn incense.

по жре́бию, как обыкнове́нно бы́ло у свяще́нников, доста́лось ему́ войти́ в храм Госпо́день для кажде́ния,

And the whole multitude of the people were in prayer outside at the hour of the incense offering.

а всё мно́жество наро́да моли́лось вне во вре́мя кажде́ния, —

And an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing to the right of the altar of incense.

тогда́ яви́лся ему́ А́нгел Госпо́день, сто́я по пра́вую сто́рону же́ртвенника кади́льного.

Zacharias was troubled when he saw the angel, and fear gripped him.

Заха́рия, уви́дев его́, смути́лся, и страх напа́л на него́.

But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your petition has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will give him the name John.

А́нгел же сказа́л ему́: не бо́йся, Заха́рия, и́бо услы́шана моли́тва твоя́, и жена́ твоя́ Елисаве́та роди́т тебе́ сы́на, и наречёшь ему́ и́мя: Иоа́нн;

“You will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth.

и бу́дет тебе́ ра́дость и весе́лие, и мно́гие о рожде́нии его́ возра́дуются,

“For he will be great in the sight of the Lord; and he will drink no wine or liquor, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit while yet in his mother’s womb.

и́бо он бу́дет вели́к пред Го́сподом; не бу́дет пить вина́ и сике́ра, и Ду́ха Свято́го испо́лнится ещё от чре́ва ма́тери свое́й;

“And he will turn many of the sons of Israel back to the Lord their God.

и мно́гих из сыно́в Изра́илевых обрати́т к Го́споду Бо́гу их;

“It is he who will go as a forerunner before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, TO TURN THE HEARTS OF THE FATHERS BACK TO THE CHILDREN, and the disobedient to the attitude of the righteous, so as to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

и преды́дет пред Ним в ду́хе и си́ле Илии́, что́бы возврати́ть сердца́ отцо́в де́тям, и непокори́вым о́браз мы́слей пра́ведников, дабы́ предста́вить Го́споду наро́д пригото́вленный.

Zacharias said to the angel, “How will I know this for certain? For I am an old man and my wife is advanced in years.”

И сказа́л Заха́рия А́нгелу: по чему́ я узна́ю э́то? и́бо я стар, и жена́ моя́ в лета́х прекло́нных.

The angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news.

А́нгел сказа́л ему́ в отве́т: я Гаврии́л, предстоя́щий пред Бо́гом, и по́слан говори́ть с тобо́ю и бла́говестить тебе́ сие́;

“And behold, you shall be silent and unable to speak until the day when these things take place, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their proper time.”

и вот, ты бу́дешь молча́ть и не бу́дешь име́ть возмо́жности говори́ть до того́ дня, как э́то сбу́дется, за то, что ты не пове́рил слова́м мои́м, кото́рые сбу́дутся в своё вре́мя.

The people were waiting for Zacharias, and were wondering at his delay in the temple.

Ме́жду те́м наро́д ожида́л Заха́рию и диви́лся, что он ме́длит в хра́ме.

But when he came out, he was unable to speak to them; and they realized that he had seen a vision in the temple; and he kept making signs to them, and remained mute.

Он же, вы́йдя, не мог говори́ть к ним; и они́ по́няли, что он ви́дел виде́ние в хра́ме; и он объясня́лся с ни́ми зна́ками, и остава́лся нем.

When the days of his priestly service were ended, he went back home.

А когда́ око́нчились дни слу́жбы его́, возврати́лся в дом свой.

After these days Elizabeth his wife became pregnant, and she kept herself in seclusion for five months, saying,

По́сле сих дней зачала́ Елисаве́та, жена́ его́, и таи́лась пять ме́сяцев и говори́ла:

“This is the way the Lord has dealt with me in the days when He looked with favor upon me, to take away my disgrace among men.”

так сотвори́л мне Госпо́дь во дни сии́, в кото́рые призре́л на меня́, что́бы снять с меня́ поноше́ние ме́жду людьми́.

Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth,

В шесто́й же ме́сяц по́слан был А́нгел Гаврии́л от Бо́га в го́род Галиле́йский, называ́емый Назаре́т,

to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the descendants of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.

к Де́ве, обручённой му́жу, и́менем Ио́сифу, из до́ма Дави́дова; и́мя же Де́ве: Мари́я.

And coming in, he said to her, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.”

А́нгел, войдя́ к Ней, сказа́л: ра́дуйся, Благода́тная! Госпо́дь с Тобо́ю; благослове́нна Ты ме́жду жёнами.

But she was very perplexed at this statement, and kept pondering what kind of salutation this was.

Она́ же, уви́дев его́, смути́лась от слов его́ и размышля́ла, что бы э́то бы́ло за приве́тствие.

The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God.

И сказа́л Ей А́нгел: не бо́йся, Мари́я, и́бо Ты обрела́ благода́ть у Бо́га;

“And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus.

и вот, зачнёшь во чре́ве, и роди́шь Сы́на, и наречёшь Ему́ и́мя: Иису́с.

“He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David;

Он бу́дет вели́к и наречётся Сы́ном Всевы́шнего, и даст Ему́ Госпо́дь Бог престо́л Дави́да, отца́ Его́;

and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.”

и бу́дет ца́рствовать над до́мом Иа́кова вове́ки, и Ца́рству Его́ не бу́дет конца́.

Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I am a virgin?”

Мари́я же сказа́ла А́нгелу: как бу́дет э́то, когда́ Я му́жа не зна́ю?

The angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.

А́нгел сказа́л Ей в отве́т: Дух Свято́й найдёт на Тебя́, и си́ла Всевы́шнего осени́т Тебя́; посему́ и рожда́емое Свято́е наречётся Сы́ном Бо́жиим.

“And behold, even your relative Elizabeth has also conceived a son in her old age; and she who was called barren is now in her sixth month.

Вот и Елисаве́та, ро́дственница Твоя́, называ́емая непло́дною, и она́ зачала́ сы́на в ста́рости свое́й, и ей уже́ шесто́й ме́сяц,

“For nothing will be impossible with God.”

и́бо у Бо́га не оста́нется бесси́льным никако́е сло́во.

And Mary said, “Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

Тогда́ Мари́я сказа́ла: се, Раба́ Госпо́дня; да бу́дет Мне по сло́ву твоему́. И отошёл от Неё А́нгел.

Now at this time Mary arose and went in a hurry to the hill country, to a city of Judah,

Встав же Мари́я во дни сии́, с поспе́шностью пошла́ в наго́рную страну́, в го́род Иу́дин,

and entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth.

и вошла́ в дом Заха́рии, и приве́тствовала Елисаве́ту.

When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

Когда́ Елисаве́та услы́шала приве́тствие Мари́и, взыгра́л младе́нец во чре́ве её; и Елисаве́та испо́лнилась Свято́го Ду́ха,

And she cried out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!

и воскли́кнула гро́мким го́лосом, и сказа́ла: благослове́нна Ты ме́жду жёнами, и благослове́н плод чре́ва Твоего́!

“And how has it happened to me, that the mother of my Lord would come to me?

И отку́да э́то мне, что пришла́ Ма́терь Го́спода моего́ ко мне?

“For behold, when the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy.

И́бо когда́ го́лос приве́тствия Твоего́ дошёл до слу́ха моего́, взыгра́л младе́нец ра́достно во чре́ве моём.

“And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what had been spoken to her by the Lord.”

И блаже́нна Уве́ровавшая, потому́ что соверши́тся ска́занное Ей от Го́спода.

And Mary said: “My soul exalts the Lord,

И сказа́ла Мари́я: вели́чит душа́ Моя́ Го́спода,

And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.

и возра́довался дух Мой о Бо́ге, Спаси́теле Моём,

“For He has had regard for the humble state of His bondslave; For behold, from this time on all generations will count me blessed.

что призре́л Он на смире́ние Рабы́ Свое́й, и́бо отны́не бу́дут ублажа́ть Меня́ все роды́;

“For the Mighty One has done great things for me; And holy is His name.

что сотвори́л Мне вели́чие Си́льный, и свя́то и́мя Его́;

“AND HIS MERCY IS UPON GENERATION AFTER GENERATION TOWARD THOSE WHO FEAR HIM.

и ми́лость Его́ в роды́ родо́в к боя́щимся Его́;

“He has done mighty deeds with His arm; He has scattered those who were proud in the thoughts of their heart.

яви́л си́лу мы́шцы Свое́й; рассе́ял надме́нных помышле́ниями се́рдца их;

“He has brought down rulers from their thrones, And has exalted those who were humble.

низложи́л си́льных с престо́лов, и вознёс смире́нных;

“HE HAS FILLED THE HUNGRY WITH GOOD THINGS; And sent away the rich empty-handed.

а́лчущих испо́лнил благ, и богатя́щихся отпусти́л ни с чем;

“He has given help to Israel His servant, In remembrance of His mercy,

воспри́нял Изра́иля, о́трока Своего́, воспомяну́в ми́лость,

As He spoke to our fathers, To Abraham and his descendants forever.”

как говори́л отца́м на́шим, к Авраа́му и се́мени его́ до ве́ка.

And Mary stayed with her about three months, and then returned to her home.

Пребыла́ же Мари́я с не́ю о́коло трёх ме́сяцев, и возврати́лась в дом свой.

Now the time had come for Elizabeth to give birth, and she gave birth to a son.

Елисаве́те же наста́ло вре́мя роди́ть, и она́ родила́ сы́на.

Her neighbors and her relatives heard that the Lord had displayed His great mercy toward her; and they were rejoicing with her.

И услы́шали сосе́ди и ро́дственники её, что возвели́чил Госпо́дь ми́лость Свою́ над не́ю, и ра́довались с не́ю.

And it happened that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to call him Zacharias, after his father.

В восьмо́й день пришли́ обре́зать младе́нца и хоте́ли назва́ть его́, по и́мени отца́ его́, Заха́риею.

But his mother answered and said, “No indeed; but he shall be called John.”

На э́то мать его́ сказа́ла: нет, а назва́ть его́ Иоа́нном.

And they said to her, “There is no one among your relatives who is called by that name.”

И сказа́ли ей: никого́ нет в родстве́ твоём, кто называ́лся бы сим и́менем.

And they made signs to his father, as to what he wanted him called.

И спра́шивали зна́ками у отца́ его́, как бы он хоте́л назва́ть его́.

And he asked for a tablet and wrote as follows, “His name is John.” And they were all astonished.

Он потре́бовал доще́чку и написа́л: «Иоа́нн и́мя ему́». И все удиви́лись.

And at once his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he began to speak in praise of God.

И то́тчас разреши́лись уста́ его́ и язы́к его́, и он стал говори́ть, благословля́я Бо́га.

Fear came on all those living around them; and all these matters were being talked about in all the hill country of Judea.

И был страх на всех, живу́щих вокру́г них; и расска́зывали обо всём э́том по всей наго́рной стране́ Иуде́йской.

All who heard them kept them in mind, saying, “What then will this child turn out to be?” For the hand of the Lord was certainly with him.

Все слы́шавшие положи́ли э́то на се́рдце своём и говори́ли: что бу́дет младе́нец сей? И рука́ Госпо́дня была́ с ним.

And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying:

И Заха́рия, оте́ц его́, испо́лнился Свято́го Ду́ха и проро́чествовал, говоря́:

“Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, For He has visited us and accomplished redemption for His people,

благослове́н Госпо́дь Бог Изра́илев, что посети́л наро́д Свой и сотвори́л избавле́ние ему́,

And has raised up a horn of salvation for us In the house of David His servant —

и воздви́г рог спасе́ния нам в до́му Дави́да, о́трока Своего́,

As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from of old —

как возвести́л уста́ми бы́вших от ве́ка святы́х проро́ков Свои́х,

Salvation FROM OUR ENEMIES, And FROM THE HAND OF ALL WHO HATE US;

что спасёт нас от враго́в на́ших и от руки́ всех ненави́дящих нас;

To show mercy toward our fathers, And to remember His holy covenant,

сотвори́т ми́лость с отца́ми на́шими и помя́нет свято́й заве́т Свой,

The oath which He swore to Abraham our father,

кля́тву, кото́рою кля́лся Он Авраа́му, отцу́ на́шему, дать нам,

To grant us that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies, Might serve Him without fear,

небоя́зненно, по избавле́нии от руки́ враго́в на́ших,

In holiness and righteousness before Him all our days.

служи́ть Ему́ в свя́тости и пра́вде пред Ним, во все дни жи́зни на́шей.

“And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; For you will go on BEFORE THE LORD TO PREPARE HIS WAYS;

И ты, младе́нец, наречёшься проро́ком Всевы́шнего, и́бо преды́дешь пред лицо́м Го́спода пригото́вить пути́ Ему́,

To give to His people the knowledge of salvation By the forgiveness of their sins,

дать уразуме́ть наро́ду Его́ спасе́ние в проще́нии грехо́в их,

Because of the tender mercy of our God, With which the Sunrise from on high will visit us,

по благоутро́бному милосе́рдию Бо́га на́шего, кото́рым посети́л нас Восто́к свы́ше,

TO SHINE UPON THOSE WHO SIT IN DARKNESS AND THE SHADOW OF DEATH, To guide our feet into the way of peace.”

просвети́ть сидя́щих во тьме и те́ни сме́ртной, напра́вить но́ги на́ши на путь ми́ра.

And the child continued to grow and to become strong in spirit, and he lived in the deserts until the day of his public appearance to Israel.

Младе́нец же возраста́л и укрепля́лся ду́хом, и был в пусты́нях до дня явле́ния своего́ Изра́илю.
