1 The Lord spoke to Moses in the tent of meeting in the Desert of Sinai on the first day of the second month of the second year after the Israelites came out of Egypt. He said:

Эти двадцатилетние юноши предваряли образ нового народа, когда вступили в землю обетования и, как было сказано, не уклонились ни вправо, ни влево1. Двадцатилетний возраст не должен сравниваться с невинностью младенцев, но, если не ошибаюсь, это число отражает нечто таинственное. Ведь Ветхий Завет известен Пятикнижием Моисея, а Новый Завет сверкает авторитетом четырех Евангелий. Если эти числа перемножить, получится двадцать: четыре раза по пяти или пять раз по четыре будет двадцать. Этот народ, как я уже сказал, знающий о Царствии Небесном, благодаря двум заветам — Ветхому и Новому, не уклоняясь ни вправо — в гордой надежде на праведность, ни влево — легкомысленно любя грех, вступит в землю этого обетования, где мы не будем просить о прощении грехов и не будем бояться наказания, освобожденные тем Искупителем, Который, не будучи продан в рабство греху2 , искупил народ Израиля от всех его беззаконий, совершенных в чьей-либо частной жизни или действующих с самого начала.
