Now King David was old, [a]advanced in years; and they put covers on him, but he could not get warm.

Когда царь Давид состарился, он не мог согреться, сколько ни покрывали его одеждами.

Therefore his servants said to him, “Let a young woman, a virgin, be sought for our lord the king, and let her [b]stand before the king, and let her care for him; and let her lie in your bosom, that our lord the king may be warm.”

Сказали ему слуги его: «Пусть поищут для господина нашего царя юную деву, чтобы она предстала перед царем — будет она заботиться о царе и возлежать у тебя на груди, и так согреется господин наш царь».

So they sought for a lovely young woman throughout all the territory of Israel, and found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king.

Искали юную красавицу по всем пределам Израиля и нашли Авишагу из Шунема. Ее и привели к царю.

The young woman was very lovely; and she cared for the king, and served him; but the king did not know her.

Девушка была очень красива, она стала ухаживать за царем и служить ему, но царь ее так и не познал.

Then Adonijah the [c]son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, “I will [d]be king”; and he prepared for himself chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.

Адония, сын Хаггит, с гордостью говорил: «Это мне быть царем!» Он завел себе колесницу, всадников и пятьдесят стражников, которые бежали впереди него.

(And his father had not [e]rebuked him at any time by saying, “Why have you done so?” He was also very good-looking. His mother had borne him after Absalom.)

Но отец его Давид ни разу не упрекнул его, не спросил: «Что это ты делаешь?» Он был очень красив с виду и родился сразу после Авшалома.

Then he conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah and with Abiathar the priest, and they followed and helped Adonijah.

Он сговорился с Йоавом, сыном Церуи, и со священником Эвьятаром, так что они были на стороне Адонии.

But Zadok the priest, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei, Rei, and the mighty men who belonged to David were not with Adonijah.

Но священник Цадок и Беная, сын Ехояды, и пророк Натан, и Шими, и Реи, и богатыри, что были у Давида — они были не за Адонию.

And Adonijah sacrificed sheep and oxen and fattened cattle by the stone of [f]Zoheleth, which is by En Rogel;[g] he also invited all his brothers, the king’s sons, and all the men of Judah, the king’s servants.

Адония стал приносить в жертву овец, волов и тельцов у камня Зохелет, что около Эйн-Рогеля. Он пригласил на празднество всех своих братьев, царских сыновей, и всех иудеев, служивших царю.

But he did not invite Nathan the prophet, Benaiah, the mighty men, or Solomon his brother.

Но он не пригласил пророка Натана, Бенайю, тех богатырей и брата своего Соломона.

So Nathan spoke to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying, “Have you not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith has become king, and David our lord does not know it?

Тогда Натан сказал Бат-Шеве, матери Соломона: «Ты ведь слышала, что царем провозгласил себя Адония, сын Хаггит, а господин наш Давид и не знает об этом?

Come, please, let me now give you advice, that you may save your own life and the life of your son Solomon.

Вот что я посоветую тебе теперь, чтобы тебе спасти свою жизнь и жизнь сына своего Соломона!

Go immediately to King David and say to him, ‘Did you not, my lord, O king, swear to your maidservant, saying, “Assuredly your son Solomon shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne”? Why then has Adonijah become king?’

Ступай к царю Давиду и скажи ему: “Разве не клялся ты, господин мой царь, своей служанке, что сын твой Соломон станет царем после тебя и воссядет на престоле твоем — отчего же царем стал Адония?”»

Then, while you are still talking there with the king, I also will come in after you and confirm your words.”

И еще до того, как ты закончишь говорить с царем, войду я, чтобы подтвердить справедливость слов твоих».

So Bathsheba went into the chamber to the king. (Now the king was very old, and Abishag the Shunammite was serving the king.)

Бат-Шева отправилась к царю во внутреннюю комнату — царь был тогда очень стар, и ему прислуживала Авишага из Шунема.

And Bathsheba bowed and did homage to the king. Then the king said, “What is your wish?”

Бат-Шева поклонилась царю и пала пред ним ниц, и царь спросил: «Что у тебя?»

Then she said to him, “My lord, you swore by the Lord your God to your maidservant, saying, ‘Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne.’

Она ответила ему: «Господин мой, ты клялся своей служанке Господом, Богом твоим, что сын твой Соломон будет царем после тебя и воссядет на престоле твоем.

So now, look! Adonijah has become king; and now, my lord the king, you do not know about it.

Но теперь уже воцарился Адония — а ты, господин мой царь, даже и не знаешь.

He has sacrificed oxen and fattened cattle and sheep in abundance, and has invited all the sons of the king, Abiathar the priest, and Joab the commander of the army; but Solomon your servant he has not invited.

Он принес в жертву множество волов и овец, пригласив всех сыновей царских, и священника Эвьятара, и военачальника Йоава, но слугу твоего Соломона не пригласил.

And as for you, my lord, O king, the eyes of all Israel are on you, that you should tell them who will sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.

И теперь, господин мой царь, очи всего Израиля взирают на тебя: объяви же, кто воссядет на престоле господина моего царя после тебя!

Otherwise it will happen, when my lord the king rests with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon will be counted as offenders.”

А не то, едва господин мой царь приложится к отцам своим, меня и сына моего Соломона сделают виновными».

And just then, while she was still talking with the king, Nathan the prophet also came in.

Пока она еще говорила с царем, вошел пророк Натан.

So they told the king, saying, “Here is Nathan the prophet.” And when he came in before the king, he bowed down before the king with his face to the ground.

Царю объявили: «Вот пророк Натан!» И он вошел к царю и поклонился ему лицом до земли.

And Nathan said, “My lord, O king, have you said, ‘Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne’?

Натан сказал: «Господин мой царь! Говорил ли ты, что Адония будет царем после тебя и воссядет на престоле твоем?

For he has gone down today, and has sacrificed oxen and fattened cattle and sheep in abundance, and has invited all the king’s sons, and the commanders of the army, and Abiathar the priest; and look! They are eating and drinking before him; and they say, ‘Long[h] live King Adonijah!’

А он ныне отправился приносить в жертву волов, и пригласил сыновей царских, и военачальников, и священника Эвьятара, и вот они пируют перед ним, и провозглашают: “Да здравствует царь Адония!”

But he has not invited me — me your servant — nor Zadok the priest, nor Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, nor your servant Solomon.

А меня, твоего слугу, и священника Цадока, и Бенаю, сына Ехояды, и слугу твоего Соломона не пригласил.

Has this thing been done by my lord the king, and you have not told your servant who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?”

Если же все это сталось по воле господина моего царя, отчего же ты не поведал слуге своему, кто воссядет на престоле твоем после тебя?»

Then King David answered and said, “Call Bathsheba to me.” So she came into the king’s presence and stood before the king.

Тогда царь сказал: «Позовите мне Бат-Шеву». Она вошла к царю и встала прямо перед ним.

And the king took an oath and said, “As the Lord lives, who has redeemed my life from every distress,

И царь произнес клятву: «Жив Господь, избавивший жизнь мою от всякой беды!

just as I swore to you by the Lord God of Israel, saying, ‘Assuredly Solomon your son shall be king after me, and he shall sit on my throne in my place,’ so I certainly will do this day.”

Я клялся тебе Господом, Богом Израилевым, говоря, что сын твой Соломон будет царем после меня и воссядет на моем престоле вместо меня — это я и исполню в сей же день!»

Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the earth, and paid homage to the king, and said, “Let my lord King David live forever!”

Бат-Шева пала лицом на землю и поклонилась царю, сказав: «Да живет господин мой, царь Давид, вечно!»

And King David said, “Call to me Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada.” So they came before the king.

Тогда царь Давид велел собрать к нему священника Цадока, пророка Натана и Бенаю, сына Ехояду. И они предстали перед царем.

The king also said to them, “Take with you the servants of your lord, and have Solomon my son ride on my own mule, and take him down to Gihon.[i]

Царь приказал им: «Возьмите с собой слуг своего господина, посадите на моего мула сына моего Соломона и ступайте с ним в Гихон.

There let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him king over Israel; and blow the horn, and say, [j]‘Long live King Solomon!’

И пусть там священник Цадок и пророк Натан помажут его в цари над Израилем, протрубят в рог и провозгласят: “Да здравствует царь Соломон!”

Then you shall come up after him, and he shall come and sit on my throne, and he shall be king in my place. For I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and Judah.”

Потом возвращайтесь вместе с ним, и пусть он сядет на мой престол. Это ему быть царем после меня, ему я судил быть правителем над Израилем и Иудой».

Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king and said, “Amen! May the Lord God of my lord the king say so too.

Беная, сын Ехояды, отвечал царю так: «Аминь! Да приговорит так и Господь, Бог господина моего царя!

As the Lord has been with my lord the king, even so may He be with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord King David.”

Как был Господь с господином моим царем, так да будет он и с Соломоном. И пусть Господь возвеличит его престол более, чем престол господина моего, царя Давида».

So Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the Cherethites, and the Pelethites went down and had Solomon ride on King David’s mule, and took him to Gihon.

И отправились тогда священник Цадок и пророк Натан, и Беная, сын Ехояды, и керетиты с пелетитами, и посадили они Соломона на мула царя Давида и привезли его в Гихон.

Then Zadok the priest took a horn of oil from the tabernacle and anointed Solomon. And they blew the horn, and all the people said, [k]“Long live King Solomon!”

Священник Цадок взял рог с елеем из Скинии, помазал Соломона, протрубил в рог и весь народ провозгласил: «Да здравствует царь Соломон!»

And all the people went up after him; and the people played the flutes and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth seemed to split with their sound.

За ним последовал весь народ, и при этом народ играл на флейтах и вовсю радовался, так что земля расседалась от этого шума.

Now Adonijah and all the guests who were with him heard it as they finished eating. And when Joab heard the sound of the horn, he said, “Why is the city in such a noisy uproar?”

Это услышали Адония и те, кто был к нему приглашен, едва они закончили пировать. Йоав услышал, как трубили в рог, и спросил: «Что это за шум и волнение в городе?»

While he was still speaking, there came Jonathan, the son of Abiathar the priest. And Adonijah said to him, “Come in, for you are a prominent man, and bring good news.”

Еще он не закончил спрашивать, как вошел Йонатан, сын Эвьятара. Адония сказал: «Входи! Ты достойный человек и наверняка несешь добрую весть».

Then Jonathan answered and said to Adonijah, “No! Our lord King David has made Solomon king.

Но Йонатан отвечал Адонии: «О нет! Господин наш царь Давид сделал царем Соломона.

The king has sent with him Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the Cherethites, and the Pelethites; and they have made him ride on the king’s mule.

Царь послал с ним священника Цадока, пророка Натана и Бенаю, сына Ехояды, и керетитов с пелетитами. Они посадили его на царского мула,

So Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king at Gihon; and they have gone up from there rejoicing, so that the city is in an uproar. This is the noise that you have heard.

а священник Цадок и пророк Натан помазали его в Гихоне, и торжественно вернулись оттуда — вот что за шум ты слышал в городе.

Also Solomon sits on the throne of the kingdom.

К тому же Соломон воссел на царский престол,

And moreover the king’s servants have gone to bless our lord King David, saying, ‘May God make the name of Solomon better than your name, and may He make his throne greater than your throne.’ Then the king bowed himself on the bed.

и царские слуги приходили благословить господина нашего царя Давида с такими словами: “Да прославит Господь имя Соломона превыше твоего имени, да возвеличит его престол превыше твоего престола!” И царь, лежа на постели, присоединился к их мольбе.

Also the king said thus, ‘Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who has given one to sit on my throne this day, while my eyes see it!’ ”

Так и говорил царь: “Благословен Господь, Бог Израилев, который даровал мне ныне наследника на престоле, и очи мои видели это!”»

So all the guests who were with Adonijah were afraid, and arose, and each one went his way.

Тогда в испуге вскочили все, кто был приглашен к Адонии, и разбежались каждый своей дорогой.

Now Adonijah was afraid of Solomon; so he arose, and went and took hold of the horns of the altar.

Адония устрашился Соломона, отправился к жертвеннику и ухватился за его рога.

And it was told Solomon, saying, “Indeed Adonijah is afraid of King Solomon; for look, he has taken hold of the horns of the altar, saying, ‘Let King Solomon swear to me today that he will not put his servant to death with the sword.’ ”

Соломону донесли, что Адония испугался царя Соломона и держится за рога жертвенника, приговаривая: «Пусть теперь же поклянется царь Соломон, что не казнит слугу своего мечом!»

Then Solomon said, “If he proves himself a worthy man, not one hair of him shall fall to the earth; but if wickedness is found in him, he shall die.”

Соломон ответил: «Если будет вести себя достойно, и волос не упадет с головы его на землю, а если обнаружится за ним некое зло — умрет».

So King Solomon sent them to bring him down from the altar. And he came and fell down before King Solomon; and Solomon said to him, “Go to your house.”

Царь Соломон послал за ним, и его привели от жертвенника. Он поклонился царю Соломону, и Соломон сказал ему: «ступай домой».
