Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother,

Paulus, berufener Apostel[1]ⓐ Christi Jesu durch Gottes Willenⓑ, und Sosthenesⓒ, der Bruder,

To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who are [a]sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all who in every place call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:

an die Gemeinde[2] Gottes, die in Korinthⓓ ist, den Geheiligten in Christus Jesusⓔ, den berufenen Heiligenⓕ, samt allen, die an jedem Ort den Namen unseres Herrn Jesus Christus anrufenⓖ, ihres und unseres ‹Herrn›.

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Gnade euch und Friede von Gott, unserem Vater, und dem Herrn Jesus Christusⓗ!

I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus,

Ich danke meinem Gott allezeit euretwegenⓘ für die Gnade Gottes, die euch gegeben ist in Christus Jesus:

that you were enriched in everything by Him in all [b]utterance and all knowledge,

In ihm seid ihr in allem reich gemacht worden, in allem Wort[3] und aller Erkenntnisⓙ,

even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed [c]in you,

wie denn das Zeugnis des Christus unter[4] euch gefestigt worden ist.

so that you come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Daher habt ihr an keiner Gnadengabe[5] Mangel, während ihr das Offenbarwerden unseres Herrn Jesus Christus erwartetⓚ,

who will also confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

der euch auch festigen wird bis ans Endeⓛ, ‹so dass ihr› untadelig ‹seid›ⓜ an dem Tag unseres Herrn Jesus Christusⓝ.

God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Gott ist treuⓞ, durch den ihr berufen worden seid in die Gemeinschaft seines Sohnes Jesus Christus, unseres Herrnⓟ.

Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all [d]speak the same thing, and that there be no [e]divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

Ich ermahne[6] euch aber, Brüder, durch den Namen unseres Herrn Jesus Christus, dass ihr alle einmütig redet[7] und nicht Spaltungen unter euch seienⓠ, sondern dass ihr in demselben Sinn[8] und in derselben Meinung völlig zusammengefügt seietⓡ.

For it has been declared to me concerning you, my brethren, by those of Chloe’s household, that there are [f]contentions among you.

Denn es ist mir durch die ‹Hausgenossen› der Chloë über euch bekannt geworden, meine Brüder, dass Streitigkeiten unter euch sindⓢ.

Now I say this, that each of you says, “I am of Paul,” or “I am of Apollos,” or “I am of Cephas,” or “I am of Christ.”

Ich meine aber dies, dass jeder von euch sagt: Ich bin des Paulus, ich aber des Apollosⓣ, ich aber des Kephas[9]ⓤ, ich aber Christiⓥ.

Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?

Ist der Christus zerteilt? Ist etwa Paulus für euch gekreuzigt, oder seid ihr auf den Namen des Paulus getauft worden?

I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius,

Ich danke Gott, dass ich niemand von euch getauft habe außer Krispusⓦ und Gajusⓧ,

lest anyone should say that I had baptized in my own name.

damit nicht jemand sage, ihr seiet auf meinen Namen getauft worden.

Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas. Besides, I do not know whether I baptized any other.

Ich habe aber auch das Haus des Stephanasⓨ getauft; sonst weiß ich nicht, ob ich noch jemand getauft habe.

For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect.

Denn Christus hat mich nicht ausgesandt zu taufen, sondern das Evangelium zu verkündigenⓩ: nicht in Redeweisheitⓐ, damit nicht das Kreuz Christi zunichte gemacht werde.

For the [g]message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

Denn das Wort vom Kreuz ist denen, die verloren gehen, Torheitⓑ; uns aber, die wir gerettet werden, ist es Gottes Kraftⓒ.

For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.”

Denn es steht geschrieben: «Ich werde die Weisheit der Weisen vernichten, und den Verstand der Verständigen werde ich verwerfen[10].»ⓓ

Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the [h]disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

Wo ist ein Weiser? Wo ein Schriftgelehrter? Wo ein Wortstreiter dieses Zeitalters[11]? Hat nicht Gott die Weisheit der Welt zur Torheit gemachtⓔ?

For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.

Denn weil in der Weisheit Gottes die Welt durch die Weisheit Gott nicht erkannteⓕ, hat es Gott wohlgefallen, durch die Torheit der Predigt die Glaubenden zu rettenⓖ.

For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom;

Und weil denn Juden Zeichen fordernⓗ und Griechen[12] Weisheit suchen,

but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a [i]stumbling block and to the [j]Greeks foolishness,

predigen wir Christus als gekreuzigtⓘ, den Juden ein Ärgernis[13]ⓙ und den Nationen eine Torheitⓚ;

but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

den Berufenen selbst aber, Juden wie Griechen[14]ⓛ, Christus, Gottes Kraftⓜ und Gottes Weisheitⓝ.

Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

Denn das Törichte Gottes ist weiser als die Menschen, und das Schwache Gottes ist stärker als die Menschen.

For [k]you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many [l]noble, are called.

Denn seht, eure Berufung, Brüder, dass es nicht viele Weise nach dem Fleischⓞ, nicht viele Mächtige, nicht viele Edle sind;

But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty;

sondern das Törichte der Welt hat Gott auserwähltⓟ, damit er die Weisen zuschanden mache; und das Schwache der Welt hat Gott auserwählt, damit er das Starke zuschanden macheⓠ.

and the [m]base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are,

Und das Unedle der Welt und das Verachtete hat Gott auserwählt, das, was nicht ist, damit er das, was ist, zunichte macheⓡ,

that no flesh should glory in His presence.

dass sich vor Gott kein Fleisch rühmeⓢ.

But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God — and righteousness and sanctification and redemption —

Aus ihm aber ‹kommt es, dass› ihr in Christus Jesus seidⓣ, der uns geworden ist Weisheit von Gottⓤ und Gerechtigkeitⓥ und Heiligkeit[15]ⓦ und Erlösungⓧ;

that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the Lord.”

damit, wie geschrieben steht: «Wer sich rühmt, der rühme sich des Herrn[16]!»ⓨ
