Paul, a bondservant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect and the acknowledgment of the truth which accords with godliness,

Павел, раб Божий, апостол же Иисуса Христа, по вере избранных Божиих и познанию истины, относящейся к благочестию,

in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began,

в надежде вечной жизни, которую обещал неизменный в слове Бог прежде вековых времен,

but has in due time manifested His word through preaching, which was committed to me according to the commandment of God our Savior;

а в свое время явил Свое слово в проповеди, вверенной мне по повелению Спасителя нашего Бога, —

To Titus, a true son in our common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and [a]the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior.

Титу, истинному сыну по общей вере: благодать, милость и мир от Бога Отца и Господа Иисуса Христа, Спасителя нашего.

For this reason I left you in Crete, that you should set in order the things that are lacking, and appoint elders in every city as I commanded you —

Для того я оставил тебя на Крите, чтобы ты довершил недоконченное и поставил по всем городам пресвитеров, как я тебе приказывал:

if a man is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of [b]dissipation or insubordination.

если кто непорочен, муж одной жены, детей имеет верующих, не укоряемых в распутстве или непокорности.

For a [c]bishop must be blameless, as a steward of God, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money,

Ибо епископ должен быть непорочен, как Божий домостроитель, не дерзок, не гневлив, не пьяница, не бийца, не корыстолюбец,

but hospitable, a lover of what is good, sober-minded, just, holy, self-controlled,

но страннолюбив, любящий добро, целомудрен, справедлив, благочестив, воздержан,

holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict.

держащийся истинного слова, согласного с учением, чтобы он был силен и наставлять в здравом учении, и противящихся обличать.

For there are many insubordinate, both idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision,

Ибо есть много и непокорных, пустословов и обманщиков, особенно из обрезанных,

whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of dishonest gain.

каковым должно заграждать уста: они развращают целые дома, уча, чему не должно, из постыдной корысти.

One of them, a prophet of their own, said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.”

Из них же самих один стихотворец сказал: «Критяне — всегда лжецы, злые звери, утробы ленивые».

This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith,

Свидетельство это справедливо. По этой причине обличай их строго, дабы они были здравы в вере,

not giving heed to Jewish fables and commandments of men who turn from the truth.

не внимая иудейским басням и постановлениям людей, отвращающихся от истины.

To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience are defiled.

Для чистых все чисто; а для оскверненных и неверных нет ничего чистого, но осквернены и ум их, и совесть.

They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being [d]abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work.

Они говорят, что знают Бога, а делами отрекаются, будучи гнусны и непокорны и не способны ни к какому доброму делу.
