This letter is from Simona Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ. I am writing to you who share the same precious faith we have. This faith was given to you because of the justice and fairnessb of Jesus Christ, our God and Savior.

Симон петр, раб и посланник Иисус Христов, равночистную с нами получившими веру в правде Бога нашего и спаса Иисуса Христа:

May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.

благодать вам и мир да умножится в познании Бога, и Христа Иисуса Господа нашего.

By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.

Яко вся нам Божественныя силы его, яже к животу и благочестию, подана разумом призвавшаго нас славою и добродетелию.

And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.

имиже честная нам и великая обетования даровашася, да сих ради будете Божественнаго причастницы естества, отбегше, яже в мире, похотныя тли:

In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge,

и в самое же сие, тщание все привнесше, подадите в вере вашей добродетель, в добродетели же разум,

and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness,

в разуме же воздержание, в воздержании же терпение, в терпении же благочестие,

and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone.

во блгочестии же братолюбие, в братолюбии же любовь.

The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Сия бо сущая в вас и множащаяся, не праздных ниже безплодных сотворят вы в Господа нашего Иисуса Христа познание:

But those who fail to develop in this way are shortsighted or blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their old sins.

емуже бо несть сих, слеп есть, мжай, забвение приемь очищения древних своих грехов.

So, dear brothers and sisters,c work hard to prove that you really are among those God has called and chosen. Do these things, and you will never fall away.

Темже паче, братие, потщитеся известно ваше звание и избрание творити: сия бо творяще, не имате согрешити никогдаже,

Then God will give you a grand entrance into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

сице бо обилно приподастся вам вход в вечное Царство Господа нашего и спаса Иисуса Христа.

Therefore, I will always remind you about these things — even though you already know them and are standing firm in the truth you have been taught.

Сего ради не обленюся воспоминати присно вам о сих, аще и ведите, и утверждени есте в настоящей истине.

And it is only right that I should keep on reminding you as long as I live.d

Праведно бо мню, донележе есмь в сем телеси, возставляти вас воспоминанием,

For our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me that I must soon leave this earthly life,e

ведый, яко скоро есть отложение телесе моего, якоже и Господь наш Иисус Христос сказа мне.

so I will work hard to make sure you always remember these things after I am gone.

Потщуся же и всегда имети вас по моем исходе память о сих творити.

For we were not making up clever stories when we told you about the powerful coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We saw his majestic splendor with our own eyes

Не ухищренным бо баснем последовавше сказахом вам силу и пришествие Господа нашего Иисуса Христа, но самовидцы бывше величествия онаго.

when he received honor and glory from God the Father. The voice from the majestic glory of God said to him, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”f

Прием бо от Бога Отца честь и славу, гласу пришедшу к нему от велелепныя славы. сей есть Сын мой возлюбленныи, о немже аз благоизволих.

We ourselves heard that voice from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain.

И сей глас мы слышахом с небесе сшедшь, с ним суще на горе святей.

Because of that experience, we have even greater confidence in the message proclaimed by the prophets. You must pay close attention to what they wrote, for their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place — until the Day dawns, and Christ the Morning Star shinesg in your hearts.

И имамы известнейшее пророческое слово: емуже внимающе якоже светилу сияющу в темнем месте, добре творите, дондеже день озарит, и денница возсияет в сердцах ваших,

Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding,h

сие прежде ведуще, яко всяко пророчество книжное по своему сказанию не бывает.

or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.

Ни бо волею бысть когда человеком пророчество, но от святаго Духа просвещаеми глаголаша святии Божии человецы.
