This letter is from Simona Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ. I am writing to you who share the same precious faith we have. This faith was given to you because of the justice and fairnessb of Jesus Christ, our God and Savior.

Симеон Петр, раб и апостол Иисуса Христа — тем, кто принял от нашего Бога и Спасителя Иисуса Христа правду и веру и у нас равно драгоценную:

May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.

Милость вам и мир! — они щедро даются тому, кто знает Бога и Иисуса, Господа нашего.

By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.

К нам от этого нашего знания поступает, передаваясь Божественной силой Того, кто призвал нас, все необходимое для благочестивой жизни. Славой и благом совершающимся, Ему присущим,

And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.

Сопровождаются великие, драгоценные дары, обещанные нам для приобщения к Божественному естеству. Удержитесь от капризов растленного мира.

In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge,

Прилагая все старание, сочетайте с верой добродетель, с добродетелью — опыт,

and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness,

С опытом — обуздание, с обузданием — терпение, с терпением — благочестие,

and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone.

С благочестием — братскую приязнь, с братской приязнью — любовь.

The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Если это у вас есть и прибавляется, то не без плода преуспеете в познании нашего Господа Иисуса Христа.

But those who fail to develop in this way are shortsighted or blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their old sins.

А у кого этого нет, тот слеп, близорук, забыл, что очищен от прежних своих грехов.

So, dear brothers and sisters,c work hard to prove that you really are among those God has called and chosen. Do these things, and you will never fall away.

Тем более старайтесь, братья, все силы отдавать непреложному вашему призванию и долгу избранничества. Будете так делать — никогда не оступитесь.

Then God will give you a grand entrance into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Тогда откроется вам приветливо доступ в вечное Царство нашего Господа и Спасителя Иисуса Христа.

Therefore, I will always remind you about these things — even though you already know them and are standing firm in the truth you have been taught.

Я и в дальнейшем буду напоминать вам об этом, хоть вам и не в новость, да и в истине, вам явившейся, вы довольно усердны.

And it is only right that I should keep on reminding you as long as I live.d

Полагаю справедливым, пока обретаюсь в скинии сей телесной, не давать вам покоя всегдашним напоминанием.

For our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me that I must soon leave this earthly life,e

Вскорости оставлю скинию мою, о чем и Господь наш Иисус Христос подал мне знак,

so I will work hard to make sure you always remember these things after I am gone.

Но сделаю все, чтобы вы и после моего отшествия сохранили способность всегда помнить об этом.

For we were not making up clever stories when we told you about the powerful coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We saw his majestic splendor with our own eyes

Мы не искусству плетения басен следовали, когда возвещали вам пришествие Господа нашего Иисуса Христа во всей силе: мы были очевидцами Его величия.

when he received honor and glory from God the Father. The voice from the majestic glory of God said to him, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”f

Он честь и славу принял от Бога Отца, вложившего их для Него в слово прославленное, бесподобное: «Это — Мой Сын, Мой любимый Сын, угожденье Мое».

We ourselves heard that voice from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain.

Этот возглас, донесшийся с небес, мы сами слышали, когда были с Ним на святой горе.

Because of that experience, we have even greater confidence in the message proclaimed by the prophets. You must pay close attention to what they wrote, for their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place — until the Day dawns, and Christ the Morning Star shinesg in your hearts.

Да и верное пророческое слово у нас тоже есть. Вы хорошо делаете, что полагаетесь на него, как на светильник, мерцающий в сумерках, пока не займется день и не взойдет утренняя звезда в ваших сердцах.

Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding,h

Конечно, нельзя упускать из виду, что никакое пророчество в Писании не является личным высказыванием.

or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.

Никогда пророчество не было волеизъявлением человека: люди изрекали его от Бога под воздействием Святого Духа.
