Павел, раб Божий, посланник же Иисуса Помазанника, согласно вере избранных Богом и познанию истины, ведущей к благочестию,

Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ to further the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness —

в надежде вечной жизни, которую обещал никогда не лгущий Бог прежде вечных времён,

in the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time,

явивший в свои сроки слово Своё в проповеди, доверенной мне по повелению Спасителя нашего, Бога, —

and which now at his appointed season he has brought to light through the preaching entrusted to me by the command of God our Savior,

Титу, истинному сыну по общей вере: благодать и мир от Бога Отца и Спасителя нашего, Иисуса Помазанника.

To Titus, my true son in our common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.

Я оставил тебя на Крите ради того, чтобы ты завершил оставшееся и представил в каждом городе старейшин, как я тебе предписывал:

The reason I left you in Crete was that you might put in order what was left unfinished and appointa elders in every town, as I directed you.

если кто безупречен, муж одной жены, детей имеет надежных и не обвиняемых в беспутстве или непокорности.

An elder must be blameless, faithful to his wife, a man whose children believeb and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient.

Ведь смотритель должен быть безупречен, как Божий домоправитель, не самодоволен, не вспыльчив, не выпивоха, не драчун, не любитель наживы.

Since an overseer manages God’s household, he must be blameless — not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain.

но гостеприимен, любящий добро, благоразумен, справедлив, посвящён, воздержан,

Rather, he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined.

держащийся надежного слова, согласно учению, чтобы имел силу и утешать здравым учением, и возражающих обличать.

He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.

Ведь есть много и непокорных, пустословов и обманщиков, особенно из обрезанных,

For there are many rebellious people, full of meaningless talk and deception, especially those of the circumcision group.

которым надо затыкать рот, которые ставят с ног на голову целые дома, уча, чему не должно, ради постыдной наживы.

They must be silenced, because they are disrupting whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach — and that for the sake of dishonest gain.

Один из них, их собственный пророк, сказал: «Критяне вечные лгуны, злобные звери, праздные обжоры».

One of Crete’s own prophets has said it: “Cretans are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons.”c

Свидетельство это правдиво. Поэтому обличай их строго, чтобы они были здравы в вере,

This saying is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith

не внимая еврейским преданиям и заповедям людей, отвернувшихся от истины.

and will pay no attention to Jewish myths or to the merely human commands of those who reject the truth.

Чистым всё чисто; а для порочных и вероломных нет ничего чистого, — у них порочны и ум, и совесть.

To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted.

Они утверждают, что знают Бога, а делами отрекаются, будучи мерзки, непокорны и ни к какому доброму делу непригодны.

They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.
