Павел пришел в Дервию и Листру. Там жил ученик по имени Тимофей. Мать Тимофея была верующей еврейкой, а отец его был грек.

Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek:

О Тимофее хорошо отзывались братья в Листре и Иконии.

Which was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium.

Павел захотел взять его с собой в путешествие и поэтому обрезал его. Он сделал это ради иудеев, которые жили в той местности, потому что все знали, что отец Тимофея грек.

Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and took and circumcised him because of the Jews which were in those quarters: for they knew all that his father was a Greek.

Путешествуя из города в город, Павел и его спутники призывали верующих соблюдать решение, принятое апостолами и старейшинами в Иерусалиме.

And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem.

Церкви укреплялись в вере, и число уверовавших с каждым днем увеличивалось.

And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.

Они проходили через Фригию и Галатийскую область, но Дух Святой не позволил им проповедовать Слово в Aсии.

Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia,

Подойдя к границе с Мисией, они собрались идти в Вифинию, но Дух Иисуса не позволил им,

After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not.

и они, пройдя Мисию, пришли в Троаду.

And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas.

Ночью Павел увидел в видении человека из Македонии. Тот стоял и просил его: — Приди в Македонию и помоги нам.

And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.

После этого видения мы решили, что Бог призывает нас проповедовать им Радостную весть, и мы сразу же приготовились отправиться в Македонию.

And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them.

Из Троады мы отплыли прямо в Самофракию и оттуда на следующий день в Неаполь.

Therefore loosing from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the next day to Neapolis;

Из Неаполя мы продолжили путешествие в Филиппы, римскую колонию и главный город той части Македонии. Там мы пробыли несколько дней.

And from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city of that part of Macedonia, and a colony: and we were in that city abiding certain days.

В субботу мы вышли за ворота города к реке, где, как мы предполагали, было место для молитвы. Мы сели и начали разговаривать с женщинами, которые там собрались.

And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.

Среди них была одна по имени Лидия, торговка кумачовыми тканями из города Фиатиры. Лидия чтила Бога, и Господь открыл ее сердце к тому, что говорил Павел.

And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.

После того, как она и ее домашние были крещены, она пригласила нас к себе. — Если вы считаете меня верной Господу, то придите и погостите у меня в доме, — говорила она и убедила нас.

And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.

Однажды, когда мы шли к месту молитвы, по дороге нам повстречалась девушка-служанка, одержимая духом, предсказывавшим будущее. Предсказаниями она приносила большой доход своим хозяевам.

And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:

Служанка шла за Павлом и за нами и кричала: — Эти люди — слуги Всевышнего Бога! Они говорят вам о том, как получить спасение!

The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.

Она делала это изо дня в день, и Павел, потеряв терпение, обернулся и сказал духу: — Во имя Иисуса Христа я повелеваю тебе, выйди из нее! В тот же момент дух ее покинул.

And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.

Когда хозяева ее поняли, что у них пропал источник дохода, они схватили Павла и Силу и поволокли их на площадь к городским властям.

And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace unto the rulers,

Они привели их к начальникам города и сказали: — Эти люди — иудеи, и они служат причиной беспорядков в нашем городе.

And brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city,

Они вводят обычаи, которые нам, римским гражданам, не следует ни принимать, ни исполнять.

And teach customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, being Romans.

Толпа тоже присоединилась к обвинениям против Павла и Силы, и начальники велели раздеть их и бить палками.

And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them.

Их сильно избили и бросили в тюрьму, а тюремщику приказали бдительно их охранять.

And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:

Получив такой приказ, тюремщик закрыл их во внутреннюю камеру и забил их ноги в колоду.

Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.

Около полуночи Павел и Сила молились и пели гимны Богу, а другие заключенные слушали их.

And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.

Внезапно произошло такое сильное землетрясение, что поколебались основания тюрьмы. Все двери раскрылись, и у всех заключенных цепи упали с ног.

And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.

Когда тюремщик проснулся и увидел, что все двери тюрьмы раскрыты, он схватил меч и хотел покончить с собой, думая, что все заключенные убежали.

And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.

Но Павел успел крикнуть: — Не губи себя! Мы все здесь!

But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.

Тюремщик попросил, чтобы зажгли свет, вбежал внутрь и, дрожа, упал перед Павлом и Силой.

Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,

Он вывел их наружу и спросил: — Господа мои, что мне делать, чтобы быть спасенным?

And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

— Веруй в Господа Иисуса, — ответили они, — тогда и ты будешь спасен, и твои домашние.

And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

И они проповедали слово Господа ему и его домашним.

And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.

В тот же ночной час тюремщик промыл им раны и сразу же был крещен, он сам и вся его семья.

And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.

Он привел апостолов к себе домой и накрыл для них стол. Вместе со всей своей семьей он радовался оттого, что уверовал в Бога.

And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.

Наступил день, и городские начальники послали служителей в тюрьму с приказом: — Освободите этих людей.

And when it was day, the magistrates sent the serjeants, saying, Let those men go.

Тюремщик сказал Павлу: — Начальники приказали освободить вас! Вы можете идти с миром!

And the keeper of the prison told this saying to Paul, The magistrates have sent to let you go: now therefore depart, and go in peace.

Но Павел сказал: — Они без суда избили нас перед народом, несмотря на то, что мы римские граждане, и бросили нас в тюрьму. Сейчас же они хотят от нас избавиться так, чтобы никто не знал? Нет! Пусть они сами придут и выведут нас.

But Paul said unto them, They have beaten us openly uncondemned, being Romans, and have cast us into prison; and now do they thrust us out privily? nay verily; but let them come themselves and fetch us out.

Служители доложили об этом городским начальникам, и когда те услышали, что Павел и Сила римские граждане, то испугались.

And the serjeants told these words unto the magistrates: and they feared, when they heard that they were Romans.

Они пришли, успокоили их, вывели из тюрьмы и попросили, чтобы те покинули город.

And they came and besought them, and brought them out, and desired them to depart out of the city.

Выйдя из тюрьмы, Павел и Сила пошли в дом Лидии. Там они встретились с братьями и ободрили их. После этого они отправились дальше.

And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of Lydia: and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.
