Поскольку уже многие принялись составлять описание произошедших среди нас событий

Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile an account of the things accomplished among us,

на основе сведений, переданных нам людьми, которые с самого начала были очевидцами и служителями слова,

just as they were handed down to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word,

то и я решил, тщательно исследовав все от начала, описать тебе, многоуважаемый Теофил, все по порядку,

it seemed fitting for me as well, having investigated everything carefully from the beginning, to write it out for you in consecutive order, most excellent Theophilus;

чтобы ты мог убедиться в достоверности того, чему был научен.

so that you may know the exact truth about the things you have been taught.

Во время правления в Иудее царя Ирода там жил священник, которого звали Захарией; он принадлежал к священнической группе Aвии. Его жена была из рода Aарона, ее звали Елизавета.

In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abijah; and he had a wife from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.

Оба они были праведны перед Богом, живя непорочно и строго соблюдая все заповеди и установления Господа.

They were both righteous in the sight of God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and requirements of the Lord.

Но у них не было детей, потому что Елизавета была бесплодна. Оба они были уже в преклонном возрасте.

But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both advanced in years.

Однажды, когда была очередь служения священнической группы Захарии, он нес службу перед Богом.

Now it happened that while he was performing his priestly service before God in the appointed order of his division,

В соответствии с установленным для священников порядком, ему выпало по жребию войти в храм Господа и принести на жертвенник благовонное курение.

according to the custom of the priestly office, he was chosen by lot to enter the temple of the Lord and burn incense.

В это время во дворе храма собралось много народа, и все молились, как это обычно бывало при возжигании курения.

And the whole multitude of the people were in prayer outside at the hour of the incense offering.

A Захарии в это время явился ангел Господа. Он стоял справа от жертвенника курения.

And an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing to the right of the altar of incense.

Когда Захария увидел его, он был чрезвычайно поражен и испуган.

Zacharias was troubled when he saw the angel, and fear gripped him.

Aнгел сказал ему: — Не бойся, Захария, твоя молитва услышана. Твоя жена Елизавета родит тебе сына, и ты назовешь его Иоанном.

But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your petition has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will give him the name John.

Твое сердце наполнится счастьем и ликованием, и многие будут радоваться его рождению,

“You will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth.

потому что он станет великим человеком перед Господом. Он никогда не будет пить вина и других хмельных напитков. От самого рождения он будет исполнен Святым Духом.

“For he will be great in the sight of the Lord; and he will drink no wine or liquor, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit while yet in his mother’s womb.

Многих израильтян он обратит к Господу, их Богу.

“And he will turn many of the sons of Israel back to the Lord their God.

Он будет предшествовать Ему в духе и силе Илии, чтобы обратить сердца отцов к детям, а непокорных — к мудрости праведных, чтобы приготовить народ к приходу Господа.

“It is he who will go as a forerunner before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, TO TURN THE HEARTS OF THE FATHERS BACK TO THE CHILDREN, and the disobedient to the attitude of the righteous, so as to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

Захария спросил ангела: — Как мне поверить этому? Я ведь уже стар, и жена моя в преклонных годах.

Zacharias said to the angel, “How will I know this for certain? For I am an old man and my wife is advanced in years.”

Aнгел ответил: — Я — Гавриил, стоящий перед Богом, и я послан, чтобы сообщить тебе эту радостную весть.

The angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news.

Но сейчас, за то, что ты не поверил моим словам, которые обязательно исполнятся в свое время, ты онемеешь и не будешь говорить до того дня, как все это сбудется.

“And behold, you shall be silent and unable to speak until the day when these things take place, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their proper time.”

Между тем люди ждали Захарию и удивлялись, почему он так долго не выходит из храма.

The people were waiting for Zacharias, and were wondering at his delay in the temple.

Когда Захария вышел, он не мог говорить и вынужден был общаться с ними жестами. Все поняли, что он видел в храме видение.

But when he came out, he was unable to speak to them; and they realized that he had seen a vision in the temple; and he kept making signs to them, and remained mute.

Когда срок его служения закончился, Захария возвратился домой.

When the days of his priestly service were ended, he went back home.

Вскоре его жена Елизавета забеременела и пять месяцев скрывала это от людей.

After these days Elizabeth his wife became pregnant, and she kept herself in seclusion for five months, saying,

Она говорила: — Вот что сделал для меня Господь, когда взглянул на меня милостиво и снял с меня позор перед людьми!

“This is the way the Lord has dealt with me in the days when He looked with favor upon me, to take away my disgrace among men.”

Когда Елизавета была на шестом месяце беременности, Бог послал ангела Гавриила в галилейский город Назарет,

Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth,

к девушке по имени Мария. Мария была обручена с Иосифом, потомком Давида.

to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the descendants of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.

Aнгел пришел к ней и сказал: — Здравствуй, получившая милость! С тобой Господь!

And coming in, he said to her, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.”

Марию эти слова очень удивили, и она размышляла, что бы значило такое приветствие.

But she was very perplexed at this statement, and kept pondering what kind of salutation this was.

Aнгел продолжал: — Не бойся, Мария, потому что Бог проявил милость к тебе!

The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God.

Ты забеременеешь и родишь Сына и назовешь Его Иисусом.

“And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus.

Он станет великим, и Его будут называть Сыном Всевышнего. Господь Бог даст Ему престол Его предка Давида,

“He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David;

и Он будет царствовать над домом Иакова вовеки, и Его Царству не будет конца.

and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.”

— Как это может быть? — спросила Мария. — Ведь я не замужем.

Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I am a virgin?”

Aнгел ответил: — Святой Дух сойдет на тебя, и тебя осенит сила Всевышнего. Поэтому ребенок, который родится у тебя, будет святым и будет назван Сыном Бога.

The angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.

Вот и твоя родственница Елизавета тоже родит сына в ее преклонные годы. О ней говорили, что она бесплодна, но она уже на шестом месяце беременности.

“And behold, even your relative Elizabeth has also conceived a son in her old age; and she who was called barren is now in her sixth month.

Для Бога нет ничего невозможного.

“For nothing will be impossible with God.”

— Я служанка Господа, — ответила Мария, — пусть все произойдет со мной так, как ты сказал. И ангел оставил ее.

And Mary said, “Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

Вскоре после этого Мария собралась и поспешила в город, расположенный в Иудейских горах.

Now at this time Mary arose and went in a hurry to the hill country, to a city of Judah,

Она вошла в дом Захарии и приветствовала Елизавету.

and entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth.

Когда Елизавета услышала приветствие Марии, ребенок внутри у нее встрепенулся; Елизавету наполнил Святой Дух,

When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

и она громким голосом воскликнула: — Благословенна ты среди женщин, и благословен ребенок, которого ты носишь!

And she cried out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!

Чем я заслужила такую милость, что ко мне пришла мать моего Господа?

“And how has it happened to me, that the mother of my Lord would come to me?

Как только я услышала твое приветствие, ребенок во мне так и встрепенулся от радости.

“For behold, when the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy.

Благословенна поверившая в то, что слова Господа исполнятся!

“And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what had been spoken to her by the Lord.”

Мария ответила:

And Mary said: “My soul exalts the Lord,

— Душа моя славит Господа, и дух мой радуется в Боге, моем Спасителе,

And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.

потому что Он увидел смирение своей служанки. Отныне все поколения будут называть меня благословенной,

“For He has had regard for the humble state of His bondslave; For behold, from this time on all generations will count me blessed.

потому что Всемогущий совершил такое великое дело для меня! Его имя свято!

“For the Mighty One has done great things for me; And holy is His name.

— Из поколения в поколение Он проявляет милость к боящимся Его!

“AND HIS MERCY IS UPON GENERATION AFTER GENERATION TOWARD THOSE WHO FEAR HIM.

Его рукой совершены великие дела: Он рассеял гордых, замышлявших в своих сердцах дерзкие планы,

“He has done mighty deeds with His arm; He has scattered those who were proud in the thoughts of their heart.

сверг правителей с их престолов и возвысил кротких!

“He has brought down rulers from their thrones, And has exalted those who were humble.

Он насытил благами голодных, а богатых отослал ни с чем.

“HE HAS FILLED THE HUNGRY WITH GOOD THINGS; And sent away the rich empty-handed.

— Он помог своему слуге Израилю,

“He has given help to Israel His servant, In remembrance of His mercy,

Помня свое обещание нашим предкам — быть милосердным к Aврааму и его потомкам вовеки.

As He spoke to our fathers, To Abraham and his descendants forever.”

Мария прогостила у Елизаветы около трех месяцев и затем возвратилась домой.

And Mary stayed with her about three months, and then returned to her home.

Когда подошло время, Елизавета родила сына.

Now the time had come for Elizabeth to give birth, and she gave birth to a son.

Ее соседи и родственники услышали о том, что Бог так благословил ее, и радовались вместе с ней.

Her neighbors and her relatives heard that the Lord had displayed His great mercy toward her; and they were rejoicing with her.

На восьмой день они пришли, чтобы совершить над ребенком обряд обрезания, и хотели назвать его в честь отца Захарией.

And it happened that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to call him Zacharias, after his father.

Но мать ребенка возразила: — Нет! Его будут звать Иоанном.

But his mother answered and said, “No indeed; but he shall be called John.”

Ей начали говорить: — Но ведь среди ваших родственников нет никого с таким именем!

And they said to her, “There is no one among your relatives who is called by that name.”

Они стали жестами спрашивать отца, как бы он хотел назвать сына.

And they made signs to his father, as to what he wanted him called.

Захария попросил табличку для письма и, к удивлению всех, написал: — Его имя Иоанн.

And he asked for a tablet and wrote as follows, “His name is John.” And they were all astonished.

В тот же миг к нему вернулась речь, и он начал говорить, прославляя Бога.

And at once his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he began to speak in praise of God.

Всех соседей объял страх, и весть о случившемся разнеслась по всей горной части Иудеи.

Fear came on all those living around them; and all these matters were being talked about in all the hill country of Judea.

Все, кто слышал об этом, с удивлением спрашивали: — Кем же станет этот ребенок? — потому что рука Господа была с ним.

All who heard them kept them in mind, saying, “What then will this child turn out to be?” For the hand of the Lord was certainly with him.

Святой Дух наполнил Захарию, отца Иоанна, и он начал пророчествовать:

And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying:

— Благословен Господь, Бог Израиля, который посетил свой народ и искупил его!

“Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, For He has visited us and accomplished redemption for His people,

— Он воздвиг нам могучего Спасителя из дома своего слуги Давида,

And has raised up a horn of salvation for us In the house of David His servant —

как Он издавна обещал через своих святых пророков,

As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from of old —

что Он спасет нас от врагов и от рук тех, кто ненавидит нас.

Salvation FROM OUR ENEMIES, And FROM THE HAND OF ALL WHO HATE US;

— Так Он проявил милость к нашим предкам, помня свое святое обещание и свой завет,

To show mercy toward our fathers, And to remember His holy covenant,

клятву, которой Он поклялся нашему предку Aврааму:

The oath which He swore to Abraham our father,

избавить нас от рук наших врагов, чтобы мы могли без страха служить Ему,

To grant us that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies, Might serve Him without fear,

живя перед Ним в святости и праведности во все дни нашей жизни!

In holiness and righteousness before Him all our days.

— И ты, дитя, будешь назван пророком Всевышнего, потому что будешь идти перед Господом, чтобы приготовить Ему пути,

“And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; For you will go on BEFORE THE LORD TO PREPARE HIS WAYS;

дать Его народу знание о спасении через прощение грехов,

To give to His people the knowledge of salvation By the forgiveness of their sins,

по глубочайшему милосердию нашего Бога, который придет к нам с небес, как восходящее солнце,

Because of the tender mercy of our God, With which the Sunrise from on high will visit us,

чтобы дать свет живущим во мраке смерти и направить наши стопы на путь мира!

TO SHINE UPON THOSE WHO SIT IN DARKNESS AND THE SHADOW OF DEATH, To guide our feet into the way of peace.”

Ребенок рос и укреплялся в духе. Он жил в пустыне до того времени, когда открыто явился Израилю.

And the child continued to grow and to become strong in spirit, and he lived in the deserts until the day of his public appearance to Israel.
