Вітання від Симона Петра, слуги і апостола Ісуса Христа, до тих, хто одержав ту ж дорогоцінну віру, що й ми від Бога нашого і Спасителя Ісуса Христа, праведного і справедливого.
 
This letter is from Simona Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ. I am writing to you who share the same precious faith we have. This faith was given to you because of the justice and fairnessb of Jesus Christ, our God and Savior.

Нехай мир і благодать збільшуються в вас через пізнання Бога та Ісуса, нашого Господа.
 
May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.

Все, що потрібно нам для духовного життя і служіння Богу, було дано Ісусом, Який має силу Божу. Ми отримали ті дари, бо знаємо Того, Хто покликав нас Славою і добротою.
 
By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.

І завдяки тій Славі й доброті Своїй, Він дав нам обіцяні дорогоцінні й великі дари, щоб змогли ми стати подібними Самому Богу, та уникнути духовного тління, яке панує у світі через лихі людські бажання.
 
And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.

Тому докладіть усіх зусиль, щоб додати до віри вашої доброчинність, а до доброчинності — знання.
 
In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge,

Щоб до знань ви змогли додати стриманість, а до стриманості — терпіння, а до терпіння — побожність.
 
and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness,

Щоб до побожності ви змогли додати братолюбство, а до братолюбства — любов.
 
and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone.

І якщо все це у вас є і примножується, то дієво й плідно ви досягнете повного розуміння нашого Господа Ісуса Христа.
 
The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

А хто не має цього, той сліпий, бо не бачить того благословення, яке отримав від Бога. Він забув, що був очищений від гріхів своїх минулих.
 
But those who fail to develop in this way are shortsighted or blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their old sins.

Тому, брати і сестри, намагайтеся знову й знову доводити, що ви справді покликані й обрані Богом. Бо якщо ви йдете цим шляхом, то ніколи не спіткнутися вам і не впасти.
 
So, dear brothers and sisters,c work hard to prove that you really are among those God has called and chosen. Do these things, and you will never fall away.

І будете ви жаданим гостем у вічному Царстві Господа нашого і Спасителя Ісуса Христа.
 
Then God will give you a grand entrance into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Ось чому я завжди буду нагадувати вам про все це, навіть якщо ви знаєте і утвердилися в правді, що відкрилася вам.
 
Therefore, I will always remind you about these things — even though you already know them and are standing firm in the truth you have been taught.

Я вважаю справедливим повсякчас нагадувати вам про це, поки живу я на цій землі.
 
And it is only right that I should keep on reminding you as long as I live.d

Адже знаю я, що скоро залишу тіло своє, як відкрив мені Господь наш Ісус Христос.
 
For our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me that I must soon leave this earthly life,e

Отже, я буду робити все від мене залежне, щоб навіть після того, як покину я цей світ, ви про все це завжди пам’ятали.
 
so I will work hard to make sure you always remember these things after I am gone.

Ми спиралися не на хитромудрі людські історії, коли сповіщали вам про силу і пришестя Господа нашого Ісуса Христа. Ми самі були свідками Його величі.
 
For we were not making up clever stories when we told you about the powerful coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We saw his majestic splendor with our own eyes

Христос одержав честь і Славу від Бога-Отця. До Нього злинув голос великого й славного Бога, котрий мовив: «Це Син Мій улюблений, Якого Я вподобав».
 
when he received honor and glory from God the Father. The voice from the majestic glory of God said to him, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”f

Ми теж чули цей голос, який лунав з Небес у той час, коли ми були з Ним на святій горі.[1]
 
We ourselves heard that voice from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain.

Ми вважаємо послання пророків найнадійнішими. Ви правильно робите, коли звертаєтеся до них, бо вони подібні до світла, що розганяє темряву, аж доки не прийде світання і ранкова зірка не засяє у серцях ваших.
 
Because of that experience, we have even greater confidence in the message proclaimed by the prophets. You must pay close attention to what they wrote, for their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place — until the Day dawns, and Christ the Morning Star shinesg in your hearts.

Найголовніше, що маєте ви зрозуміти, — це те, що жодне з пророцтв у Святому Писанні не було вигадане самими пророками.
 
Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding,h

Бо ніяке пророцтво не прийшло з волі людини. Ні, люди, натхнені Святим Духом, висловлювали послання Божі.
 
or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.
