and Jesse begat David the king. And David begat Solomon, of her [that had been the wife] of Urias;
1 Now Jesus having been born in Bethlehem of Judaea, in the days of Herod the king, behold magi from the east arrived at Jerusalem, saying,
Where is the king of the Jews that has been born? for we have seen his star in the east, and have come to do him homage.
But Herod the king having heard [of it], was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him;
And they having heard the king went their way; and lo, the star, which they had seen in the east, went before them until it came and stood over the place where the little child was.
nor by the earth, because it is [the] footstool of his feet; nor by Jerusalem, because it is [the] city of the great King.
And the king was grieved; but on account of the oaths, and those lying at table with [him], he commanded [it] to be given.
For this cause the kingdom of the heavens has become like a king who would reckon with his bondmen.
Say to the daughter of Zion, Behold thy King cometh to thee, meek, and mounted upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.
The kingdom of the heavens has become like a king who made a wedding feast for his son,
And [when] the king [heard of it he] was wroth, and having sent his forces, destroyed those murderers and burned their city.
And the king, having gone in to see the guests, beheld there a man not clothed with a wedding garment.
Then said the king to the servants, Bind him feet and hands, and take him away, and cast him out into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.
Then shall the King say to those on his right hand, Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from [the] world's foundation:
And the King answering shall say to them, Verily, I say to you, Inasmuch as ye have done it to one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it to me.
11 But Jesus stood before the governor. And the governor questioned him, saying, Art *thou* the King of the Jews? And Jesus said to him, Thou sayest.
and having woven a crown out of thorns, they put it on his head, and a reed in his right hand; and, bowing the knee before him, they mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!
And they set up over his head his accusation written: This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.
He saved others, himself he cannot save. He is King of Israel: let him descend now from the cross, and we will believe on him.
14 And Herod the king heard [of him] (for his name had become public), and said, John the baptist is risen from among [the] dead, and on this account works of power are wrought by him.
and the daughter of the same Herodias having come in, and danced, pleased Herod and those that were with [him] at table; and the king said to the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt and I will give it thee.
And immediately going in with haste to the king, she asked saying, I desire that thou give me directly upon a dish the head of John the baptist.
And the king, [while] made very sorry, on account of the oaths and those lying at table with [him] would not break his word with her.
And immediately the king, having sent one of the guard, ordered his head to be brought. And he went out and beheaded him in the prison,
And Pilate asked him, Art *thou* the King of the Jews? And he answered and said to him, *Thou* sayest.
But Pilate answered them saying, Will ye that I release to you the King of the Jews?
12 And Pilate answering said to them again, What will ye then that I do [to him] whom ye call King of the Jews?
And they began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews!
And the superscription of what he was accused of was written up: The King of the Jews.
Let the Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and may believe. And they that were crucified with him reproached him.
5 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest, by name Zacharias, of the course of Abia, and his wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name Elizabeth.
Or what king, going on his way to engage in war with another king, does not, sitting down first, take counsel whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him coming against him with twenty thousand?
saying, Blessed the King that comes in the name of [the] Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.
And they began to accuse him, saying, We have found this [man] perverting our nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ, a king.
And Pilate demanded of him saying, Art *thou* the king of the Jews? And he answering him said, Thou sayest.
and saying, If *thou* be the king of the Jews, save thyself.
And there was also an inscription [written] over him in Greek, and Roman, and Hebrew letters: This is the King of the Jews.
Nathanael answered and said to him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God, thou art the King of Israel.
Jesus therefore knowing that they were going to come and seize him, that they might make [him] king, departed again to the mountain himself alone.
took branches of palms and went out to meet him, and cried, Hosanna, blessed [is] he that comes in the name of [the] Lord, the King of Israel.
Fear not, daughter of Zion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass's colt.
Pilate therefore entered again into the praetorium and called Jesus, and said to him, Thou art the king of the Jews?
Pilate therefore said to him, Thou art then a king? Jesus answered, Thou sayest [it], that I am a king. I have been born for this, and for this I have come into the world, that I might bear witness to the truth. Every one that is of the truth hears my voice.
But ye have a custom that I release [some] one to you at the passover; will ye therefore that I release unto you the king of the Jews?
and came to him and said, Hail, king of the Jews! and gave him blows on the face.
From this time Pilate sought to release him; but the Jews cried out saying, If thou releasest this [man], thou art not a friend to Caesar. Every one making himself a king speaks against Caesar.
(now it was [the] preparation of the passover; it was about the sixth hour;) and he says to the Jews, Behold your king!
But they cried out, Take [him] away, take [him] away, crucify him. Pilate says to them, Shall I crucify your king? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.
And Pilate wrote a title also and put it on the cross. But there was written: Jesus the Nazaraean, the King of the Jews.
The chief priests of the Jews therefore said to Pilate, Do not write, The king of the Jews, but that *he* said, I am king of the Jews.
