После того, как это произошло, царь Артаксеркс оказал почёт Аману, сыну Амадафа Вугеянина. Царь возвысил Амана, и тот занял место более почётное, чем другие вожди.

 

After these things king Ahasuerus promoted Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes that were with him.

Все царские вожди, которые были у царских ворот, кланялись и падали ниц перед Аманом, ибо так приказал царь. Мардохей же отказывался кланяться и отдавать честь Аману.

 

And all the king's servants that were in the king's gate bowed and did Haman reverence, for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai bowed not, nor did [him] reverence.

Царские вожди у ворот спрашивали Мардохея: "Почему ты не подчиняешься царскому приказу кланяться Аману?"

 

Then the king's servants, who were in the king's gate, said to Mordecai, Why transgressest thou the king's commandment?

День за днём царские вожди говорили так Мардохею, но он отказывался подчиниться приказу кланяться Аману. Тогда вожди рассказали об этом Аману. Они хотели посмотреть, что Аман сделает Мардохею. Мардохей ещё раньше сказал этим вождям, что он еврей.

 

And it came to pass as they spoke daily to him, and he hearkened not to them, that they informed Haman, to see whether Mordecai's matters would stand; for he had told them that he was a Jew.

Когда Аман увидел, что Мардохей отказывается кланяться и не падает ниц перед ним, он очень разгневался.

 

And when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence, Haman was full of fury.

Аман узнал, что Мардохей еврей. Но ему было бы мало убить одного Мардохея. Аман хотел найти путь уничтожить весь народ Мардохея, всех евреев, которые были в царстве Артаксеркса.

 

But he scorned to lay hands on Mordecai alone; for they had made known to him the people of Mordecai; therefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were in all the kingdom of Ahasuerus -- the people of Mordecai.

На двенадцатом году царствования царя Артаксеркса, в пятом месяце, месяце Нисане, Аман бросил жребий, чтобы выбрать специальный день и месяц. И был выбран двенадцатый месяц, месяц Адар. (В то время жребий называли "пур". )

 

In the first month, that is, the month Nisan, in the twelfth year of king Ahasuerus, they cast Pur, that is, the lot, before Haman for each day and for each month, to the twelfth [month], that is, the month Adar.

Тогда Аман пришёл к царю Артаксерксу и сказал: "Царь Артаксеркс, здесь есть один народ, рассеянный между народами по всем областям твоего царства. Эти люди живут отделившись от других народов, их обычаи отличаются от обычаев всех других народов, и они не подчиняются царским законам. Царю не следует позволять им продолжать жить в твоём царстве.

 

And Haman said to king Ahasuerus, There is a people scattered abroad and dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of thy kingdom; and their laws are diverse from [those of] every people, and they keep not the king's laws; and it is not for the king's profit to suffer them.

Если царю угодно, то у меня есть предложение. Прикажи уничтожить этих людей, а я дам десять тысяч талантов серебра в царскую казну, чтобы заплатить людям, которые это сделают".

 

If it please the king, let it be written that they may be destroyed, and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver into the hands of those that have charge of the affairs, to bring [it] into the king's treasuries.

Тогда царь снял со своего пальца перстень и отдал его Аману. Аман был сыном Амадафа Вугеянина. Он был врагом евреев.

 

And the king took his ring from his hand, and gave it to Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the Jews' enemy.

Царь сказал Аману: "Вот тебе деньги, и делай с этими людьми всё, что захочешь".

 

And the king said to Haman, The silver is given to thee, the people also, to do with them as seems good to thee.

На тринадцатый день первого месяца были созваны царские писцы. Они записали все приказы Амана на языке каждой области и каждого народа. Они написали царским сатрапам (вождям), начальникам всех областей и вождям каждого народа. Они написали от имени самого царя Артаксеркса и скрепили приказ царским перстнем.

 

Then were the king's scribes called, in the first month, on the thirteenth day of the [month], and there was written according to all that Haman commanded unto the king's satraps, and to the governors over every province, and to the princes of every people; to every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people according to their language: in the name of king Ahasuerus was it written, and sealed with the king's ring.

Гонцы разнесли письма по всем областям царства. В письмах был приказ царя погубить, убить и полностью уничтожить всех евреев, молодых и старых, женщин и детей. Было приказано убить всех евреев в один день, в тринадцатый день двенадцатого месяца, то есть месяца Адара. Приказано было также забрать всё имущество, принадлежащее евреям.

 

And the letters were sent by couriers into all the king's provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, upon the thirteenth of the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar, and [to take] the spoil of them for a prey.

Копия письма с этим приказом должна была стать законом в каждой области, и закон этот должен был быть объявлен всем народам, живущим в царстве, чтобы эти народы были готовы к назначенному дню.

 

That the decree might be given in every province, a copy of the writing was published to all peoples, that they should be ready against that day.

По приказу царя гонцы поспешно отправились в путь. Приказ был отдан и в столичном городе Сузах. Царь и Аман сидели и пили, а город Сузы был в смятении.

 

The couriers went out, being hastened by the king's commandment, and the decree was given in Shushan the fortress. And the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city of Shushan was in consternation.
