In the second year of Darius the king, on the first day of the sixth month, the word of the LORD came by the prophet Haggai to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,

Im zweiten Jahr des Königs Darius, im sechsten Monat, am ersten Tage des Monats, geschah des HERRN Wort durch den Propheten Haggai zu Serubbabel, dem Sohn Schealtiëls, dem Statthalter von Juda, und zu Jeschua, dem Sohn Jozadaks, dem Hohenpriester:

“Thus says the LORD of hosts, ‘This people says, “The time has not come, even the time for the house of the LORD to be rebuilt.”’”

So spricht der HERR Zebaoth: Dies Volk spricht: Die Zeit ist noch nicht da, daß man des HERRN Haus baue.

Then the word of the LORD came by Haggai the prophet, saying,

Und des HERRN Wort geschah durch den Propheten Haggai:

“Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses while this house lies desolate?”

Aber eure Zeit ist da, daß ihr in getäfelten Häusern wohnt, und dies Haus muß wüst stehen!

Now therefore, thus says the LORD of hosts, “Consider your ways!

Nun, so spricht der HERR Zebaoth: Achtet doch darauf, wie es euch geht:

“You have sown much, but harvest little; you eat, but there is not enough to be satisfied; you drink, but there is not enough to become drunk; you put on clothing, but no one is warm enough; and he who earns, earns wages to put into a purse with holes.”

Ihr säet viel und bringt wenig ein; ihr eßt und werdet doch nicht satt; ihr trinkt und bleibt doch durstig; ihr kleidet euch und könnt euch doch nicht erwärmen; und wer Geld verdient, der legt's in einen löchrigen Beutel.

Thus says the LORD of hosts, “Consider your ways!

So spricht der HERR Zebaoth: Achtet doch darauf, wie es euch geht!

“Go up to the mountains, bring wood and rebuild the temple, that I may be pleased with it and be glorified,” says the LORD.

Geht hin auf das Gebirge und holt Holz und baut das Haus! Das soll mir angenehm sein, und ich will meine Herrlichkeit erweisen, spricht der HERR.

“You look for much, but behold, it comes to little; when you bring it home, I blow it away. Why?” declares the LORD of hosts, “Because of My house which lies desolate, while each of you runs to his own house.

Denn ihr erwartet wohl viel, aber siehe, es wird wenig; und wenn ihr's schon heimbringt, so blase ich's weg. Warum das? spricht der HERR Zebaoth. Weil mein Haus so wüst dasteht und ein jeder nur eilt, für sein Haus zu sorgen.

“Therefore, because of you the sky has withheld its dew and the earth has withheld its produce.

Darum hat der Himmel über euch den Tau zurückgehalten und das Erdreich sein Gewächs.

“I called for a drought on the land, on the mountains, on the grain, on the new wine, on the oil, on what the ground produces, on men, on cattle, and on all the labor of your hands.”

Und ich habe die Dürre gerufen über Land und Berge, über Korn, Wein, Öl und über alles, was aus der Erde kommt, auch über Mensch und Vieh und über alle Arbeit der Hände.

Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him. And the people showed reverence for the LORD.

Da gehorchten Serubbabel, der Sohn Schealtïls, und Jeschua, der Sohn Jozadaks, der Hohepriester, und alle übrigen vom Volk der Stimme des HERRN, ihres Gottes, und den Worten des Propheten Haggai, wie ihn der HERR, ihr Gott, gesandt hatte; und das Volk fürchtete sich vor dem HERRN.

Then Haggai, the messenger of the LORD, spoke by the commission of the LORD to the people saying, “ ‘I am with you,’ declares the LORD.”

Da sprach Haggai, der Bote des HERRN, der beauftragt war mit der Botschaft des HERRN an das Volk: Ich bin mit euch, spricht der HERR.

So the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and worked on the house of the LORD of hosts, their God,

Und der HERR erweckte den Geist Serubbabels, des Sohnes Schealtïls, des Statthalters von Juda, und den Geist Jeschuas, des Sohnes Jozadaks, des Hohenpriesters, und den Geist aller übrigen vom Volk, daß sie kamen und arbeiteten am Hause des HERRN Zebaoth, ihres Gottes,

on the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month in the second year of Darius the king.

am vierundzwanzigsten Tage des sechsten Monats im zweiten Jahr des Königs Darius. Abweichende Verszählung statt 1,15: 2,1.
