Und es geschah nach dem Tod des Mose, des Knechtes des HERRNⓐ, da sprach der HERR zu Josua, dem Sohn des Nunⓑ, dem Diener des Moseⓒ:

Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came to pass, that the LORD spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying,

Mein Knecht Mose ist gestorben. So mache dich nun auf und gehe über diesen Jordanⓓ, du und dieses ganze Volk, in das Land, das ich ihnen, den Söhnen Israel, gebeⓔ!

Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.

Jeden Ort, auf den eure Fußsohle treten wird — euch habe ich ihn gegeben, wie ich zu Mose geredet habeⓕ.

Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.

Von der Wüste und diesem Libanon an bis zum großen Strom, dem Strom Euphrat, das ganze Land der Hetiterⓖ, und bis zum großen Meer gegen Sonnenuntergang, ‹das› soll euer Gebiet seinⓗ.

From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.

Es soll niemand vor dir standhalten ‹können›, alle Tage deines Lebensⓘ. Wie ich mit Mose gewesen bin, werde ich mit dir seinⓙ; ich werde dich nicht aufgeben und dich nicht verlassenⓚ.

There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

Sei stark und mutig!ⓛ Denn du, du sollst diesem Volk das Land als Erbe austeilenⓜ, das ihnen zu geben ich ihren Vätern geschworen habeⓝ.

Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.

Nur sei recht stark und mutig, dass du darauf achtest, nach dem ganzen Gesetz zu handeln, das mein Knecht Mose dir geboten hatⓞ! Weiche nicht davon ab, ‹weder› zur Rechten noch zur Linkenⓟ, damit du ‹überall› Erfolg hast[1], wo immer du gehst!

Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.

Dieses Buch des Gesetzes soll nicht von deinem Mund weichen, und du sollst Tag und Nacht darüber nachsinnenⓠ, damit du darauf achtest, nach alledem zu handeln, was darin geschrieben ist[2]ⓡ; denn dann wirst du auf deinen Wegen zum Ziel gelangen, und dann wirst du Erfolg habenⓢ.

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Habe ich dir nicht geboten: Sei stark und mutigⓣ? Erschrick nicht[3] und fürchte dich nichtⓤ! Denn mit dir ist der HERRⓥ, dein Gott, wo immer du gehstⓦ.

Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

Da befahl Josua den Aufsehern[4] des Volkes:

Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,

Geht mitten durch das Lager und befehlt dem Volk und sprecht: Versorgt euch mit Wegzehrung, denn in noch drei Tagen werdet ihr über diesen Jordan ziehenⓧ, um hineinzugehen, das Land einzunehmenⓨ, das der HERR, euer Gott, euch gibt, es zu besitzen!

Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the LORD your God giveth you to possess it.

Und zu den Rubenitern und den Gaditern und zum halben Stamm Manasseⓩ sagte Josua:

And to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to half the tribe of Manasseh, spake Joshua, saying,

Denkt an das Wort, das Mose, der Knecht des HERRN, euch geboten hat, indem er sagte: Der HERR, euer Gott, schafft euch Ruhe und gibt euch dieses Land!

Remember the word which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, saying, The LORD your God hath given you rest, and hath given you this land.

Eure Frauen, eure Kinder und euer Vieh[5] sollen in dem Land bleiben, das Mose euch diesseits[6] des Jordan gegeben hat. Ihr aber, all ‹ihr› tüchtigen Krieger, sollt gerüstet vor euren Brüdern hinüberziehen und ihnen helfenⓐ,

Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side Jordan; but ye shall pass before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valour, and help them;

bis der HERR euren Brüdern Ruhe schafft wie euch und auch sie das Land in Besitz nehmenⓑ, das der HERR, euer Gott, ihnen gibt. Dann sollt ihr in euer eigenes Land[7] zurückkehren und es besitzen, das Mose, der Knecht des HERRN, euch gegeben hat, diesseits[8] des Jordan, gegen Sonnenaufgangⓒ.

Until the LORD have given your brethren rest, as he hath given you, and they also have possessed the land which the LORD your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the LORD'S servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the sunrising.

Und sie antworteten Josua: Alles, was du uns geboten hast, werden wir tun, und wohin immer du uns sendest, werden wir hingehenⓓ.

And they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou commandest us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us, we will go.

Ganz wie wir Mose gehorcht haben, so werden wir dir gehorchenⓔ. Nur möge der HERR, dein Gott, mit dir sein, wie er mit Mose gewesen istⓕ!

According as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee: only the LORD thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses.

Jeder, der sich deinem Befehl[9] widersetzt und nicht auf deine Worte hört in allem, was du uns befiehlst, soll getötet werdenⓖ. Nur sei stark und mutigⓗ!

Whosoever he be that doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of a good courage.
