The word of Jehovah that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.

Dies ist das Wort des HErrn, das geschehen ist zu Joel, dem Sohn Pethuels:

Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?

Höret dies, ihr Ältesten, und merket auf, alle Einwohner im Lande, ob ein solches geschehen sei bei euren Zeiten oder bei eurer Väter Zeiten!

Tell your children of it, and [let] your children [tell] their children, and their children another generation:

Saget euren Kindern davon und laßt es eure Kinder ihren Kindern sagen und dieselbigen Kinder ihren andern Nachkommen,

that which the palmer-worm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpillar eaten.

nämlich: Was die Raupen lassen, das fressen die Heuschrecken; und was die Heuschrecken lassen, das fressen die Käfer; und was die Käfer lassen, das frißt das Geschmeiß.

Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the new wine: for it is cut off from your mouth.

Wachet auf, ihr Trunkenen, und weinet und heulet, alle Weinsäufer, um den Most; denn er ist euch vor eurem Maul weggenommen.

For a nation is come up upon my land, strong and without number: his teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a lioness.

Denn es zeucht herauf in mein Land ein mächtig Volk, und des ohne Zahl; das hat Zähne wie Löwen und Backenzähne wie Löwinnen.

He hath made my vine a desolation, and barked my fig-tree; he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away: its branches are made white.

Dasselbige verwüstet meinen Weinberg und streift meinen Feigenbaum, schälet ihn und verwirft ihn, daß seine Zweige weiß dastehen.

Wail like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.

Heule wie eine Jungfrau, die einen Sack anlegt um ihren Bräutigam!

The oblation and the drink-offering are cut off from the house of Jehovah; the priests, Jehovah's ministers, mourn.

Denn das Speisopfer und Trankopfer ist vom Hause des HErrn weg, und die Priester, des HErrn Diener, trauern.

The field is laid waste, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted, the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.

Das Feld ist verwüstet, und der Acker stehet jämmerlich, das Getreide ist verdorben, der Wein stehet jämmerlich und das Öl kläglich.

Be ashamed, ye husbandmen; howl, ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley: because the harvest of the field hath perished.

Die Ackerleute sehen jämmerlich, und die Weingärtner heulen um den Weizen und um die Gerste, daß aus der Ernte auf dem Felde nichts werden kann.

The vine is dried up, and the fig-tree languisheth; the pomegranate-tree, the palm also and the apple-tree; all the trees of the field are withered, yea, joy is withered away from the children of men.

So stehet der Weinstock auch jämmerlich und der Feigenbaum kläglich; dazu die Granatbäume, Palmbäume, Apfelbäume und alle Bäume auf dem Felde sind verdorret; denn die Freude der Menschen ist zum Jammer worden.

Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests; howl, ministers of the altar; come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the oblation and the drink-offering are withholden from the house of your God.

Begürtet euch und klaget, ihr Priester; heulet, ihr Diener des Altars; gehet hinein und lieget in Säcken, ihr Diener meines GOttes! Denn es ist beide, Speisopfer und Trankopfer, vom Hause eures GOttes weg.

Hallow a fast, proclaim a solemn assembly, gather the elders, [and] all the inhabitants of the land to the house of Jehovah your God, and cry unto Jehovah.

Heiliget ein Fasten; rufet die Gemeine zusammen; versammelt die Ältesten und alle Einwohner des Landes zum Hause des HErrn, eures GOttes, und schreiet zum HErrn!

Alas for the day! for the day of Jehovah is at hand, and as destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

O wehe des Tages! Denn der Tag des HErrn ist nahe und kommt wie ein Verderben vom Allmächtigen.

Is not the food cut off before our eyes, joy and gladness from the house of our God?

Da wird die Speise vor unsern Augen weggenommen werden und vom Hause unsers GOttes Freude und Wonne.

The seeds are rotten under their clods, the granaries are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.

Der Same ist unter der Erde verfaulet, die Kornhäuser stehen wüst, die Scheunen zerfallen; denn das Getreide ist verdorben.

How do the beasts groan! The herds of cattle are bewildered, for they have no pasture; the flocks of sheep also are in suffering.

O wie seufzet das Vieh! Die Rinder sehen kläglich, denn sie haben keine Weide, und die Schafe verschmachten.

To thee, Jehovah, do I cry; for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned up all the trees of the field.

HErr, dich rufe ich an; denn das Feuer hat die Auen in der Wüste verbrannt, und die Flamme hat alle Bäume auf dem Acker angezündet.

The beasts of the field also cry unto thee; for the water-courses are dried, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.

Es schreien auch die wilden Tiere zu dir; denn die Wasserbäche sind ausgetrocknet, und das Feuer hat die Auen in der Wüste verbrannt.
