And it came to pass after the death of Joshua that the children of Israel asked Jehovah, saying, Which of us shall go up against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?

Nach dem Tod Josuas fragten die Kinder Israel den HErrn und sprachen: Wer soll unter uns den Krieg führen wider die Kanaaniter?

And Jehovah said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.

Der HErr sprach: Juda soll ihn führen. Siehe, ich habe das Land in seine Hand gegeben.

And Judah said to Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, and let us fight against the Canaanites, and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot; and Simeon went with him.

Da sprach Juda zu seinem Bruder Simeon: Zeuch mit mir hinauf in meinem Los und laß uns wider die Kanaaniter streiten, so will ich wieder mit dir ziehen in deinem Los. Also zog Simeon mit ihm.

And Judah went up; and Jehovah delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand, and they smote them in Bezek, ten thousand men.

Da nun Juda hinaufzog, gab ihm der HErr die Kanaaniter und Pheresiter in ihre Hände; und schlugen zu Besek zehntausend Mann.

And they found Adoni-Bezek in Bezek, and fought against him, and they smote the Canaanites and the Perizzites.

Und fanden den Adoni-Besek zu Besek und stritten wider ihn; und schlugen die Kanaaniter und Pheresiter.

And Adoni-Bezek fled, and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.

Aber Adoni-Besek floh, und sie jagten ihm nach; und da sie ihn ergriffen, verhieben sie ihm die Daumen an seinen Händen und Füßen.

And Adoni-Bezek said, Seventy kings, with their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gleaned under my table: as I have done, so God has requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.

Da sprach Adoni-Besek: Siebenzig Könige mit verhauenen Daumen ihrer Hände und Füße lasen auf unter meinem Tisch. Wie ich nun getan habe, so hat mir GOtt wieder vergolten: Und man brachte ihn gen Jerusalem; daselbst starb er.

And the children of Judah fought against Jerusalem, and took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.

Aber die Kinder Juda stritten wider Jerusalem und gewannen sie und schlugen sie mit der Schärfe des Schwerts und zündeten die Stadt an.

And afterwards the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the hill-country, and in the south, and in the lowland.

Danach zogen die Kinder Juda herab, zu streiten wider die Kanaaniter, die auf dem Gebirge und gegen Mittag und in den Gründen wohneten.

And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron -- the name of Hebron before was Kirjath-Arba; and they slew Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai.

Und Juda zog hin wider die Kanaaniter, die zu Hebron wohneten (Hebron aber hieß vorzeiten Kiriath-Arba), und schlugen den Sesai und Ahiman und Thalmai.

And from there he went against the inhabitants of Debir; now the name of Debir before was Kirjath-sepher.

Und zog von dannen wider die Einwohner zu Debir. Debir aber hieß vorzeiten Kiriath-Sepher.

And Caleb said, He that smites Kirjath-sepher and takes it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter as wife.

Und Kaleb sprach: Wer Kiriath-Sepher schlägt und gewinnet, dem will ich meine Tochter Achsa zum Weibe geben.

And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it; and he gave him Achsah his daughter as wife.

Da gewann sie Athniel, der Sohn Kenas', des Kalebs jüngsten Bruders. Und er gab ihm seine Tochter Achsa zum Weibe.

And it came to pass as she came, that she urged him to ask of her father the field; and she sprang down from the ass. And Caleb said to her, What wouldest thou?

Und es begab sich, da sie einzog, ward ihr geraten, daß sie fordern sollte einen Acker von ihrem Vater; und fiel vom Esel. Da sprach Kaleb zu ihr: Was ist dir?

And she said to him, Give me a blessing; for thou hast given me a southern land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.

Sie sprach: Gib mir einen Segen; denn du hast mir ein Mittagsland gegeben, gib mir auch ein wässeriges. Da gab er ihr ein wässeriges oben und unten.

And the children of the Kenite, Moses' father-in-law, had gone up out of the city of palm-trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which is in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt with the people.

Und die Kinder des Keniters, Moses Schwagers, zogen herauf aus der Palmenstadt mit den Kindern Juda in die Wüste Juda, die da liegt gegen Mittag der Stadt Arad; und gingen hin und wohneten unter dem Volk.

And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it; and they called the name of the city Hormah.

Und Juda zog hin mit seinem Bruder Simeon und schlugen die Kanaaniter zu Zephath und verbanneten sie; und nannten die Stadt Horma.

And Judah took Gazah and its border, and Ashkelon and its border, and Ekron and its border.

Dazu gewann Juda Gaza mit ihrer Zugehör und Asklon mit ihrer Zugehör und Ekron mit ihrer Zugehör.

And Jehovah was with Judah; and he took possession of the hill-country, for he did not dispossess the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.

Und der HErr war mit Juda, daß er das Gebirge einnahm; denn er konnte die Einwohner im Grunde nicht einnehmen, darum daß sie eiserne Wagen hatten.

And they gave to Caleb Hebron, as Moses had said; and he dispossessed from thence the three sons of Anak.

Und sie gaben dem Kaleb Hebron, wie Mose gesagt hatte; und er vertrieb daraus die drei Söhne des Enak.

And the children of Benjamin did not dispossess the Jebusites, the inhabitants of Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day.

Aber die Kinder Benjamin vertrieben die Jebusiter nicht, die zu Jerusalem wohneten, sondern die Jebusiter wohneten bei den Kindern Benjamin zu Jerusalem bis auf diesen Tag.

And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Bethel; and Jehovah was with them.

Desselbengleichen zogen auch die Kinder Joseph hinauf gen Bethel; und der HErr war mit ihnen.

And the house of Joseph sent to search out Bethel; now the name of the city before was Luz.

Und das Haus Joseph verkundschaftete Bethel, die vorhin Lus hieß.

And the guards saw a man come forth out of the city, and said unto him, Shew us, we pray thee, how [we] may enter into the city, and we will shew thee kindness.

Und die Wächter sahen einen Mann aus der Stadt gehen und sprachen zu ihm: Weise uns, wo wir in die Stadt kommen, so wollen wir Barmherzigkeit an dir tun.

And he shewed them how to enter into the city. And they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family.

Und da er ihnen zeigte, wo sie in die Stadt kämen, schlugen sie die Stadt mit der Schärfe des Schwerts; aber den Mann und all sein Geschlecht ließen sie gehen.

And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called its name Luz, which is its name to this day.

Da zog derselbe Mann ins Land der Hethiter und bauete eine Stadt und hieß sie Lus; die heißet noch heutigestages also.

And Manasseh did not dispossess Beth-shean and its dependent villages, nor Taanach and its dependent villages, nor the inhabitants of Dor and its dependent villages, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and its dependent villages, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and its dependent villages; and the Canaanites would dwell in that land.

Und Manasse vertrieb nicht Beth-Sean mit ihren Töchtern, noch Thaenach mit ihren Töchtern, noch die Einwohner zu Dor mit ihren Töchtern, noch die Einwohner zu Jebleam mit ihren Töchtern, noch die Einwohner zu Megiddo mit ihren Töchtern; und die Kanaaniter fingen an zu wohnen in demselben Lande.

And it came to pass when Israel became strong, that they made the Canaanites tributary; but they did not utterly dispossess them.

Da aber Israel mächtig ward, machte er die Kanaaniter zinsbar und vertrieb sie nicht.

And Ephraim did not dispossess the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt among them in Gezer.

Desgleichen vertrieb auch Ephraim die Kanaaniter nicht, die zu Gaser wohneten, sondern die Kanaaniter wohneten unter ihnen zu Gaser.

Zebulun did not dispossess the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries.

Sebulon vertrieb auch nicht die Einwohner zu Kitron und Nahalal, sondern die Kanaaniter wohneten unter ihnen und waren zinsbar.

Asher did not dispossess the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor Ahlab, nor Achzib, nor Helbah, nor Aphik, nor Rehob;

Asser vertrieb die Einwohner zu Acko nicht, noch die Einwohner zu Zidon, zu Ahelab, zu Achsib, zu Helba, zu Aphik und zu Rehob,

and the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; for they did not dispossess them.

sondern die Asseriter wohneten unter den Kanaanitern, die im Lande wohneten; denn sie vertrieben sie nicht.

Naphtali did not dispossess the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath; and he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, but the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and of Beth-anath became tributaries to them.

Naphthali vertrieb die Einwohner nicht zu Beth-Semes noch zu Beth-Anath, sondern wohneten unter den Kanaanitern, die im Lande wohneten. Aber die zu Beth-Semes und zu Beth-Anath wurden zinsbar.

And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the hill-country, for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley.

Und die Amoriter drungen die Kinder Dan aufs Gebirge und ließen nicht zu, daß sie herunter in den Grund kämen.

And the Amorites would dwell on mount Heres, in Ajalon and in Shaalbim; but the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, and they became tributaries.

Und die Amoriter fingen an zu wohnen auf dem Gebirge Heres, zu Ajalon und zu Saalbim. Doch ward ihnen die Hand des Hauses Joseph zu schwer, und wurden zinsbar.

And the border of the Amorites was from the ascent of Akrabbim, from the rock, and upwards.

Und die Grenze der Amoriter war, da man gen Akrabbim hinaufgehet, und von dem Fels und von der Höhe.
