Dies ist die Last für Ninive, das Buch der Weissagung Nahums aus Elkosch.

A jealous and avenging God is Jehovah: an avenger is Jehovah, and full of fury: Jehovah taketh vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth [wrath] for his enemies.

a Der HERR ist ein eifernder und vergeltender Gott, ja, ein Vergelter ist der HERR und zornig. Der HERR vergilt seinen Widersachern; er wird es seinen Feinden nicht vergessen.

Jehovah is slow to anger, and great in power, and doth not at all clear [the guilty]: Jehovah, -- his way is in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.

Der HERR ist geduldig und von großer Kraft, vor dem niemand unschuldig ist. Er ist der HERR, dessen Weg in Wetter und Sturm ist; Wolken sind der Staub unter seinen Füßen.

He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers: Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth.

Er schilt das Meer und macht es trocken; alle Wasser läßt er versiegen. Baschan und Karmel verschmachten, und was auf dem Berge Libanon blüht, verwelkt.

The mountains quake before him, and the hills melt, and the earth is upheaved at his presence, and the world, and all that dwell therein.

Die Berge erzittern vor ihm, und die Hügel zergehen; das Erdreich bebt vor ihm, der Erdkreis und alle, die darauf wohnen.

Who shall stand before his indignation? and who shall abide in the fierceness of his anger? His fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken asunder by him.

Wer kann vor seinem Zorn bestehen, und wer kann vor seinem Grimm bleiben? Sein Zorn brennt wie Feuer, und die Felsen zerspringen vor ihm.

Jehovah is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.

Der HERR ist gütig und eine Feste zur Zeit der Not und kennt die, die auf ihn trauen.

But with an overrunning flood he will make a full end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.

Er schirmt sie, wenn die Flut überläuft. Er macht ein Ende mit seinen Widersachern, und seine Feinde verfolgt er mit Finsternis.

What do ye imagine against Jehovah? He will make a full end: trouble shall not rise up the second time.

Was wollt ihr ersinnen wider den HERRN? Er führt doch das Ende herbei. Es wird das Unglück nicht zweimal kommen.

Though they be tangled together [as] thorns, and be as drenched from their drink, they shall be devoured as dry stubble, completely.

Denn wenn sie auch sind wie die Dornen, die noch ineinanderwachsen und im besten Saft sind, so sollen sie doch ganz verbrannt werden wie dürres Stroh.

Out of thee is gone forth one that imagineth evil against Jehovah, a wicked counsellor.

Denn von dir ist gekommen, der Arges ersann, der Böses wider den HERRN plante. Vers 11 und 14 ist Ninive, Vers 12 und 13 Juda angeredet.

Thus saith Jehovah: Though they be complete in number, and many as they be, even so shall they be cut down, and he shall pass away; and though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more.

So spricht der HERR: Sie mögen kommen so gerüstet und mächtig, wie sie wollen, sie sollen doch umgehauen werden und dahinfahren. Ich habe dich gedemütigt, aber ich will dich nicht wiederum demütigen.

And now will I break his yoke from off thee, and will burst thy bonds asunder.

Jetzt will ich sein Joch, das du trägst, zerbrechen und deine Bande zerreißen.

And Jehovah hath given commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name be sown: out of the house of thy god will I cut off the graven image, and the molten image: I will prepare thy grave; for thou art vile.

Wider dich hat der HERR geboten, daß von deinem Namen kein Nachkomme mehr bleiben soll. Vom Hause deines Gottes will ich ausrotten die Götzen und Bilder; ein Grab will ich dir machen, denn du bist zunichte geworden.

Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth glad tidings, that publisheth peace! Celebrate thy feasts, Judah, perform thy vows: for the wicked one shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.
