The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests who were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin,

Dies sind die Worte Jeremias, des Sohnes Hilkijas, aus dem Priestergeschlecht zu Anatot im Lande Benjamin.

to whom the word of the Lord came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.

Zu ihm geschah das Wort des HERRN zur Zeit Josias, des Sohnes Amons, des Königs von Juda, im dreizehnten Jahr seiner Herrschaft,

It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month.

und hernach zur Zeit Jojakims, des Sohnes Josias, des Königs von Juda, bis ans Ende des elften Jahres Zedekias, des Sohnes Josias, des Königs von Juda, bis c Jerusalem weggeführt wurde im fünften Monat.

Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

Und des HERRN Wort geschah zu mir:

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified[a] you; I [b]ordained you a prophet to the nations.”

Ich kannte dich, ehe ich dich im Mutterleibe bereitete, und sonderte dich aus, ehe du von der Mutter geboren wurdest, und bestellte dich zum Propheten für die Völker.

Then said I: “Ah, Lord God! Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth.”

Ich aber sprach: Ach, Herr HERR, ich tauge nicht zu predigen; denn ich bin zu jung.

But the Lord said to me: “Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’ For you shall go to all to whom I send you, And whatever I command you, you shall speak.

Der HERR sprach aber zu mir: Sage nicht: «Ich bin zu jung», sondern du sollst gehen, wohin ich dich sende, und predigen alles, was ich dir gebiete.

Do not be afraid of their faces, For I am with you to deliver you,” says the Lord.

Fürchte dich nicht vor ihnen; denn ich bin bei dir und will dich erretten, spricht der HERR.

Then the Lord put forth His hand and touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me: “Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.

Und der HERR streckte seine Hand aus und rührte meinen Mund an und sprach zu mir: Siehe, ich lege meine Worte in deinen Mund.

See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, To root out and to pull down, To destroy and to throw down, To build and to plant.”

Siehe, ich setze dich heute über Völker und Königreiche, daß du ausreißen und einreißen, zerstören und verderben sollst und bauen und pflanzen.

Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Jeremiah, what do you see?” And I said, “I see a [c]branch of an almond tree.”

Und es geschah des HERRN Wort zu mir: Jeremia, was siehst du? Ich sprach: Ich sehe einen erwachenden Zweig.

Then the Lord said to me, “You have seen well, for I am [d]ready to perform My word.”

Und der HERR sprach zu mir: Du hast recht gesehen; denn ich will wachen über meinem Wort, daß ich's tue.

And the word of the Lord came to me the second time, saying, “What do you see?” And I said, “I see a boiling pot, and it is facing away from the north.”

Und es geschah des HERRN Wort zum zweitenmal zu mir: Was siehst du? Ich sprach: Ich sehe einen siedenden Kessel überkochen von Norden her.

Then the Lord said to me: “Out of the north calamity shall break forth On all the inhabitants of the land.

Und der HERR sprach zu mir: Von Norden her wird das Unheil losbrechen über alle, die im Lande wohnen.

For behold, I am calling All the families of the kingdoms of the north,” says the Lord; “They shall come and each one set his throne At the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, Against all its walls all around, And against all the cities of Judah.

Denn siehe, ich will rufen alle Völker der Königreiche des Nordens, spricht der HERR, daß sie kommen sollen und ihre Throne setzen vor die Tore Jerusalems und rings um die Mauern her und vor alle Städte Judas.

I will utter My judgments Against them concerning all their wickedness, Because they have forsaken Me, Burned incense to other gods, And worshiped the works of their own hands.

Und ich will mein Gericht über sie ergehen lassen um all ihrer Bosheit willen, daß sie mich verlassen und andern Göttern opfern und ihrer Hände Werk anbeten.

“Therefore prepare yourself and arise, And speak to them all that I command you. Do not be dismayed before their faces, Lest I dismay you before them.

So gürte nun deine Lenden und mache dich auf und predige ihnen alles, was ich dir gebiete. Erschrick nicht vor ihnen, auf daß ich dich nicht erschrecke vor ihnen!

For behold, I have made you this day A fortified city and an iron pillar, And bronze walls against the whole land — Against the kings of Judah, Against its princes, Against its priests, And against the people of the land.

Denn ich will dich heute zur festen Stadt, zur eisernen Säule, zur ehernen Mauer machen im ganzen Lande wider die Könige Judas, wider seine Großen, wider seine Priester, wider das Volk des Landes,

They will fight against you, But they shall not prevail against you. For I am with you,” says the Lord, “to deliver you.”

daß, wenn sie auch wider dich streiten, sie dir dennoch nichts anhaben können; denn ich bin bei dir, spricht der HERR, daß ich dich errette.
