У трэці год валадараньня Егаякіма, валадара Юды, прыйшоў Навухаданосар, валадар Бабілону, да Ерусаліму і аблёг яго.

In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it.

І аддаў Госпад у руку ягоную Егаякіма, валадара Юды, і частку начыньняў Дому Божага, і ён занёс іх у зямлю Шынэар у дом бога свайго, і ўнёс начыньні гэтыя ў скарбніцу бога свайго.

And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God: which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.

І сказаў валадар Ашпэназу, начальніку эўнухаў сваіх, каб ён прывёў з сыноў Ізраіля і з насеньня валадарскага і княскага

And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king's seed, and of the princes;

юнакоў, якія ня маюць у сабе аніякай заганы, [маюць] добры выгляд, разумеюць усякую мудрасьць, і кемлівыя ў навучаньні, і здольныя да ведаў, каб яны мелі сілу стаяць у палацы валадарскім і каб навучыць іх кнігам і мове халдэйскай.

Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king's palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.

І вызначыў ім валадар на кожны дзень ежу валадара і віно, якое сам піў, каб гадаваць іх так тры гады, каб пасьля заканчэньня іх яны сталі перад абліччам валадара.

And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king's meat, and of the wine which he drank: so nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand before the king.

І былі сярод іх з сыноў Юды Данііл, Ананія, Мішаэль і Азарыя.

Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:

І даў ім начальнік эўнухаў імёны, Даніілу даў [імя] Бэльтэшацар, Ананію — Шадрах, Мішаэлю — Мэшах, а Азарыі — Авэд-Нэго.

Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abednego.

І пастанавіў Данііл у сэрцы сваім, што ён ня будзе апаганьвацца ежаю валадара і віном, якое той піў; і ён прасіў начальніка эўнухаў, каб яму не апаганіцца.

But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

І даў Бог Даніілу міласэрнасьць і спагаду перад абліччам начальніка эўнухаў.

Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.

І сказаў начальнік эўнухаў Даніілу: «Я баюся пана майго, валадара, які вызначыў для вас ежу і напоі. Бо калі ён убачыць, што абліччы вашыя марнейшыя, чым у [іншых] юнакоў вашага веку, тады вы наразіце на небясьпеку галаву маю перад валадаром».

And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king.

І сказаў Данііл наглядчыку, якога начальнік эўнухаў паставіў над Даніілам, Ананіем, Мішаэлем і Азарыем:

Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,

«Выспрабуй, калі ласка, слугаў тваіх дзён дзесяць; і няхай даюць нам гародніну, і мы будзем есьці, і ваду, і мы будзем піць.

Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.

І паглядзіш на выгляд наш і выгляд юнакоў, якія ядуць ежу валадара; і паводле таго, што ўбачыш, рабі са слугамі тваімі».

Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king's meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.

І ён паслухаў іх у гэтай справе, і выспрабоўваў іх дзесяць дзён.

So he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days.

І ў канцы дзесяці дзён выгляд іхні выяўвіўся лепшым і цела [іхняе было] здаравейшым, чым у юнакоў, якія елі ежу валадара.

And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king's meat.

І сталася, што наглядчык забіраў ад іх ежу і віно, якое яны мелі піць, і даваў ім гародніну.

Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them pulse.

І гэтым чатыром юнакам Бог даў веды і разуменьне кожнай кнігі і мудрасьці, а Данііл разумеў усякія відзежы і сны.

As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

І пасьля заканчэньня дзён, калі валадар сказаў прывесьці іх, начальнік эўнухаў прывёў іх перад аблічча Навухаданосара.

Now at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.

І гаварыў з імі валадар, і не знайшлося сярод іх усіх [такіх], як Данііл, Ананія, Мішаэль і Азарыя. І яны сталі перад абліччам валадара.

And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king.

І ў-ва ўсіх справах мудрасьці і разуменьня, пра што валадар пытаўся ў іх, ён знайшоў іх у дзесяць разоў [лепшымі] за ўсіх варажбітоў і астролягаў, якія [былі] ў-ва ўсім валадарстве ягоным.

And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.

І Данііл быў [там] да першага году валадара Кіра.

And Daniel continued even unto the first year of king Cyrus.
