The word of the LORD that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.

Dies ist das Wort des HERRN, das geschehen ist zu Joel, dem Sohn Petuëls.

Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?

Hört dies, ihr Ältesten, und merkt auf, alle Bewohner des Landes, ob solches geschehen sei zu euren Zeiten oder zu eurer Väter Zeiten!

Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.

Sagt euren Kindern davon und laßt's eure Kinder ihren Kindern sagen und diese wiederum ihren Nachkommen:

That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpiller eaten.

Was die Raupen übriglassen, das fressen die Heuschrecken, und was die Heuschrecken übriglassen, das fressen die Käfer, und was die Käfer übriglassen, das frißt das Geschmeiß.

Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the new wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.

Wacht auf, ihr Trunkenen, und weinet, und heult, alle Weinsäufer, um den süßen Wein; denn er ist euch vor eurem Munde weggenommen!

For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion.

Denn es zieht herauf in mein Land ein Volk, mächtig und ohne Zahl; das hat Zähne wie die Löwen und Backenzähne wie die Löwinnen.

He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig tree: he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.

Es verwüstet meinen Weinstock und frißt meinen Feigenbaum kahl, schält ihn ganz und gar ab, daß seine Zweige weiß dastehen.

Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.

Heule wie eine Jungfrau, die Trauer anlegt um ihres Bräutigams willen!

The meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests, the LORD'S ministers, mourn.

Denn Speisopfer und Trankopfer gibt es nicht mehr im Hause des HERRN, und die Priester, des HERRN Diener, trauern.

The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted: the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.

Das Feld ist verwüstet und der Acker ausgedörrt; das Getreide ist verdorben, der Wein steht jämmerlich und das Öl kläglich.

Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.

Die Ackerleute sehen traurig drein, und die Weingärtner heulen um den Weizen und um die Gerste, weil aus der Ernte auf dem Felde nichts werden kann,

The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men.

weil der Weinstock verdorrt ist und der Feigenbaum verwelkt, auch die Granatbäume, Palmbäume und Apfelbäume, ja, alle Bäume auf dem Felde sind verdorrt. So ist die Freude der Menschen zum Jammer geworden.

Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests: howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is withholden from the house of your God.

Umgürtet euch und klagt, ihr Priester, heulet, ihr Diener des Altars! Kommt, behaltet auch im Schlaf das Trauergewand an, ihr Diener meines Gottes! Denn Speisopfer und Trankopfer gibt es nicht mehr im Hause eures Gottes.

Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD,

Sagt ein heiliges Fasten an, ruft die Gemeinde zusammen! Versammelt die Ältesten und alle Bewohner des Landes zum Hause des HERRN, eures Gottes, und schreit zum HERRN:

Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

O weh des Tages! Denn der Tag des HERRN ist nahe und kommt wie ein Verderben vom Allmächtigen.

Is not the meat cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God?

Ist nicht die Speise vor unsern Augen weggenommen und vom Hause unseres Gottes Freude und Wonne?

The seed is rotten under their clods, the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.

Der Same ist unter der Erde verdorrt, die Kornhäuser stehen wüst, die Scheunen zerfallen; denn das Getreide ist verdorben.

How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.

O wie seufzt das Vieh! Die Rinder sehen kläglich drein, denn sie haben keine Weide, und die Schafe verschmachten.

O LORD, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.

HERR, dich rufe ich an; denn das Feuer hat die Auen in der Steppe verbrannt, und die Flamme hat alle Bäume auf dem Felde angezündet.

The beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.

Es schreien auch die wilden Tiere zu dir; denn die Wasserbäche sind ausgetrocknet, und das Feuer hat die Auen in der Steppe verbrannt.
