The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see.

Dies ist die Last, die der Prophet Habakuk geschaut hat.

O LORD, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! even cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save!

HERR, wie lange soll ich schreien, und du willst nicht hören? Wie lange soll ich zu dir rufen: «Frevel!», und du willst nicht helfen?

Why dost thou shew me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention.

Warum läßt du mich Bosheit sehen und siehst dem Jammer zu? Raub und Frevel sind vor mir; es geht Gewalt vor Recht.

Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth.

Darum ist das Gesetz ohnmächtig, und die rechte Sache kann nie gewinnen; denn der Gottlose übervorteilt den Gerechten; darum ergehen verkehrte Urteile.

Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvellously: for I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you.

Schauet hin unter die Heiden, sehet und verwundert euch! Denn ich will etwas tun zu euren Zeiten, was ihr nicht glauben werdet, wenn man davon sagen wird.

For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwellingplaces that are not theirs.

Denn siehe, ich will die Chaldäer erwecken, ein grimmiges und schnelles Volk, das hinziehen wird, so weit die Erde ist, um Wohnstätten einzunehmen, die ihm nicht gehören.

They are terrible and dreadful: their judgment and their dignity shall proceed of themselves.

Grausam und schrecklich ist es; es gebietet und zwingt, wie es will.

Their horses also are swifter than the leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves: and their horsemen shall spread themselves, and their horsemen shall come from far; they shall fly as the eagle that hasteth to eat.

Ihre Rosse sind schneller als die Panther und bissiger als die Wölfe am Abend. Ihre Reiter fliegen in großen Scharen von ferne daher, wie die Adler eilen zum Fraß.

They shall come all for violence: their faces shall sup up as the east wind, and they shall gather the captivity as the sand.

Sie kommen allesamt, um Schaden zu tun; wo sie hinwollen, stürmen sie vorwärts und raffen Gefangene zusammen wie Sand.

And they shall scoff at the kings, and the princes shall be a scorn unto them: they shall deride every strong hold; for they shall heap dust, and take it.

Sie spotten der Könige, und der Fürsten lachen sie. Alle Festungen werden ihnen ein Scherz sein; denn sie schütten Erde auf und erobern sie.

Then shall his mind change, and he shall pass over, and offend, imputing this his power unto his god.

Alsdann brausen sie dahin wie ein Sturm und jagen weiter; mit alledem machen sie ihre Kraft zu ihrem Gott.

Art thou not from everlasting, O LORD my God, mine Holy One? we shall not die. O LORD, thou hast ordained them for judgment; and, O mighty God, thou hast established them for correction.

Aber du, HERR, mein Gott, mein Heiliger, der du von Ewigkeit her bist, laß uns nicht sterben; sondern laß sie uns, oh HERR, nur eine Strafe sein, und laß sie, oh unser Fels, uns nur züchtigen.

Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he?

Deine Augen sind zu rein, als daß du Böses ansehen könntest, und dem Jammer kannst du nicht zusehen! Warum siehst du dann aber den Räubern zu und schweigst, wenn der Gottlose den verschlingt, der gerechter ist als er?

And makest men as the fishes of the sea, as the creeping things, that have no ruler over them?

Du läßt es den Menschen gehen wie den Fischen im Meer, wie dem Gewürm, das keinen Herrn hat.

They take up all of them with the angle, they catch them in their net, and gather them in their drag: therefore they rejoice and are glad.

Sie ziehen's alles mit der Angel heraus und fangen's mit ihrem Netze und sammeln's mit ihrem Garn. Darüber freuen sie sich und sind fröhlich.

Therefore they sacrifice unto their net, and burn incense unto their drag; because by them their portion is fat, and their meat plenteous.

Darum opfern sie ihrem Netze und räuchern ihrem Garn, weil durch diese ihr Anteil so fett und ihre Speise so üppig geworden ist.

Shall they therefore empty their net, and not spare continually to slay the nations?

Sollen sie darum ihr Netz immerdar ausleeren und Völker umbringen ohne Erbarmen?
