After the death of Joshua, the Israelites asked the LORD, “Which tribe should go first to attack the Canaanites?”

Пасьля сьмерці Егошуа пыталіся сыны Ізраіля ў ГОСПАДА, кажучы: «Хто з нас першы выступіць супраць Хананейцаў ваяваць з імі?»

The LORD answered, “Judah, for I have given them victory over the land.”

ГОСПАД адказаў ім: «Няхай выступіць Юда, бо Я аддаў зямлю гэтую ў рукі ягоныя».

The men of Judah said to their relatives from the tribe of Simeon, “Join with us to fight against the Canaanites living in the territory allotted to us. Then we will help you conquer your territory.” So the men of Simeon went with Judah.

І сказаў Юда Сымону, брату свайму: «Увайдзі са мной у жэрабя маё і будзем разам ваяваць супраць Хананейцаў, а я ўвайду з табой у жэрабя тваё». І пайшоў з ім Сымон.

When the men of Judah attacked, the LORD gave them victory over the Canaanites and Perizzites, and they killed 10,000 enemy warriors at the town of Bezek.

І пайшоў Юда, і аддаў ГОСПАД у рукі іхнія Хананейцаў і Пэрэзэяў, і ў Бэзэку выбілі яны дзесяць тысячаў мужчын.

While at Bezek they encountered King Adoni-bezek and fought against him, and the Canaanites and Perizzites were defeated.

У Бэзэку сустрэліся яны з Адоні-Бэзэкам і ваявалі з ім, і перамаглі Хананейцаў і Пэрэзэяў.

Adoni-bezek escaped, but the Israelites soon captured him and cut off his thumbs and big toes.

І Адоні-Бэзэк уцёк, але яны дагналі яго, і схапілі, і адрэзалі вялікія пальцы на руках і нагах ягоных.

Adoni-bezek said, “I once had seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off, eating scraps from under my table. Now God has paid me back for what I did to them.” They took him to Jerusalem, and he died there.

І сказаў Адоні-Бэзэк: «Семдзясят валадароў з адрэзанымі вялікімі пальцамі на руках і нагах зьбіралі крошкі пад сталом маім. І як я рабіў, так і мне Бог адплаціў». І завялі яго ў Ерусалім, і там ён памёр.

The men of Judah attacked Jerusalem and captured it, killing all its people and setting the city on fire.

І ваявалі сыны Юды з Ерусалімам, і захапілі яго, і выбілі яго вострывам мяча, а горад спалілі агнём.

Then they went down to fight the Canaanites living in the hill country, the Negev, and the western foothills.a

Потым зыйшлі сыны Юды і ваявалі супраць Хананейцаў, якія жылі ў гарах, у Нэгеве і ў Шэфэлі.

Judah marched against the Canaanites in Hebron (formerly called Kiriath-arba), defeating the forces of Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai.

І пайшоў Юда супраць Хананейцаў, якія жылі ў Хеўроне, што раней называўся Кірыят-Арба, і пабіў Шэшая, Ахімана і Тальмая.

From there they went to fight against the people living in the town of Debir (formerly called Kiriath-sepher).

Адтуль пайшоў ён супраць жыхароў Дэбіру, які раней называўся Кірыят-Сэфэр.

Caleb said, “I will give my daughter Acsah in marriage to the one who attacks and captures Kiriath-sepher.”

І сказаў Халеў: «Хто нападзе на Кірыят-Сэфэр і здабудзе яго, таму дам за жонку Ахсу, дачку маю».

Othniel, the son of Caleb’s younger brother, Kenaz, was the one who conquered it, so Acsah became Othniel’s wife.

І здабыў яго Атніэль, сын Кеназа, малодшага брата Халева, і Халеў аддаў яму за жонку Ахсу, дачку сваю.

When Acsah married Othniel, she urged himb to ask her father for a field. As she got down off her donkey, Caleb asked her, “What’s the matter?”

Калі яна прыйшла, ён намовіў яе, каб прасіла ў бацькі свайго поля. І калі яна зьлезла з асла, сказаў ёй Халеў: «Што табе?»

She said, “Let me have another gift. You have already given me land in the Negev; now please give me springs of water, too.” So Caleb gave her the upper and lower springs.

А яна адказала: «Дай мне дабраславенства, бо даў ты мне зямлю Нэгеў. Дай мне крыніцы водаў». І даў ёй Халеў крыніцы верхнія і крыніцы нізавыя.

When the tribe of Judah left Jericho — the city of palms — the Kenites, who were descendants of Moses’ father-in-law, traveled with them into the wilderness of Judah. They settled among the people there, near the town of Arad in the Negev.

Сыны Кенэя, цесьця Майсея, выйшлі з гораду Пальмаў з сынамі Юды ў пустыню Юды, якая на поўдзень ад Араду, і там абжыліся з народам.

Then Judah joined with Simeon to fight against the Canaanites living in Zephath, and they completely destroyedc the town. So the town was named Hormah.d

І пайшоў Юда з братам сваім Сымонам, і разам напалі яны на Хананейцаў, якія жылі ў Цэфаце, і аблажылі іх закляцьцем, і назвалі горад гэты Харма.

In addition, Judah captured the towns of Gaza, Ashkelon, and Ekron, along with their surrounding territories.

І Юда здабыў Газу і ваколіцы ейныя, Ашкелён і ваколіцы ягоныя, Экрон і ваколіцы ягоныя.

The LORD was with the people of Judah, and they took possession of the hill country. But they failed to drive out the people living in the plains, who had iron chariots.

І ГОСПАД быў з Юдам, і ён захапіў горы, але ня мог выгнаць жыхароў даліны, бо мелі яны калясьніцы жалезныя.

The town of Hebron was given to Caleb as Moses had promised. And Caleb drove out the people living there, who were descendants of the three sons of Anak.

Халеву аддалі Хеўрон, як сказаў Майсей, і выгнаў ён адтуль трох сыноў Анака.

The tribe of Benjamin, however, failed to drive out the Jebusites, who were living in Jerusalem. So to this day the Jebusites live in Jerusalem among the people of Benjamin.

А сыны Бэн’яміна ня выгналі з Ерусаліму жыхароў ягоных, Евусэяў; і жывуць Евусэі па сёньняшні дзень разам з сынамі Бэн’яміна ў Ерусаліме.

The descendants of Joseph attacked the town of Bethel, and the LORD was with them.

Таксама дом Язэпа пайшоў ў Бэтэль, і ГОСПАД быў з імі.

They sent men to scout out Bethel (formerly known as Luz).

І дом Язэпа выведваў Бэтэль, што раней называўся Люз,

They confronted a man coming out of the town and said to him, “Show us a way into the town, and we will have mercy on you.”

і ўбачылі выведчыкі чалавека, які выходзіў з гораду, і сказалі яму: «Пакажы нам уваход у горад, і мы зьявім табе міласэрнасьць».

So he showed them a way in, and they killed everyone in the town except that man and his family.

І ён паказаў ім уваход у горад, яны выбілі горад вострывам мяча, а чалавека таго і ўсю сям’ю ягоную адпусьцілі.

Later the man moved to the land of the Hittites, where he built a town. He named it Luz, which is its name to this day.

І чалавек той пайшоў у зямлю Хетаў, і заснаваў там горад, і назваў яго Люз, які гэтак называецца па сёньняшні дзень.

The tribe of Manasseh failed to drive out the people living in Beth-shan,e Taanach, Dor, Ibleam, Megiddo, and all their surrounding settlements, because the Canaanites were determined to stay in that region.

А Манаса не здабыў Бет-Шэан і Таанах з ваколіцамі іхнімі, і жыхароў Дору, і Іблеаму, і Мэгіддо з ваколіцамі іхнімі, і засталіся Хананейцы жыць на гэтай зямлі.

When the Israelites grew stronger, they forced the Canaanites to work as slaves, but they never did drive them completely out of the land.

А калі Ізраільцяне ўмацаваліся, яны зрабілі Хананейцаў прыгоннымі, але іх ня выгналі.

The tribe of Ephraim failed to drive out the Canaanites living in Gezer, so the Canaanites continued to live there among them.

І Эфраім ня выгнаў Хананейцаў, што жылі ў Гезэры, і Хананейцы жылі сярод іх у Гезэры.

The tribe of Zebulun failed to drive out the residents of Kitron and Nahalol, so the Canaanites continued to live among them. But the Canaanites were forced to work as slaves for the people of Zebulun.

І Завулён ня выгнаў жыхароў Кітрону і Нагалалу, і Хананейцы жылі між іх, і сталіся ў іх прыгоннымі.

The tribe of Asher failed to drive out the residents of Acco, Sidon, Ahlab, Aczib, Helbah, Aphik, and Rehob.

Асэр ня выгнаў жыхароў Акко, Сідону, Ахлябу, Ахзібу, Гэльбы, Афэка і Рэхову.

Instead, the people of Asher moved in among the Canaanites, who controlled the land, for they failed to drive them out.

І жыў Асэр сярод Хананейцаў, жыхароў той зямлі, бо ня выгнаў іх.

Likewise, the tribe of Naphtali failed to drive out the residents of Beth-shemesh and Beth-anath. Instead, they moved in among the Canaanites, who controlled the land. Nevertheless, the people of Beth-shemesh and Beth-anath were forced to work as slaves for the people of Naphtali.

Нэфталі ня выгнаў жыхароў Бэт-Шэмешу і Бэт-Анату, і жыў між Хананейцаў, жыхароў зямлі гэтай, і жыхары Бэт-Шэмешу і Бэт-Анату былі ў яго прыгоннымі.

As for the tribe of Dan, the Amorites forced them back into the hill country and would not let them come down into the plains.

І выпхнулі Амарэйцы сыноў Дана ў горы, і не далі ім зыйсьці ў даліну.

The Amorites were determined to stay in Mount Heres, Aijalon, and Shaalbim, but when the descendants of Joseph became stronger, they forced the Amorites to work as slaves.

Амарэйцы жылі ў Гар-Хэрэсе, у Аялоне і ў Шаальбіме. І цяжэла над імі рука дому Язэпа, і яны былі ў яго прыгоннымі.

The boundary of the Amorites ran from Scorpion Passf to Sela and continued upward from there.

А межы Амарэйцаў цягнуліся ад узвышша Акраббім і да Сэлі і вышэй.
