Старэйшына — выбранай гаспадырыні і яе дзецям, якіх я люблю ў праўдзе, і не толькі я, але і ўсе, хто ўведаў праўду,

The Elder, To the [a]elect lady and her children, whom I love in truth, and not only I, but also all those who have known the truth,

дзеля праўды, якая жыве ў нас і будзе з намі навекі.

because of the truth which abides in us and will be with us forever:

Няхай будзе з намі1 ласка, літасць, мір ад Бога Бацькі і ад [Госпада] Ісуса Хрыста, Сына Бацькі, у праўдзе і ў любові!

Grace, mercy, and peace will be with [b]you from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

Я вельмі ўзрадаваўся, што між тваіх дзяцей знайшоў тых, якія ходзяць у праўдзе, як мы атрымалі запаведзь ад Бацькі.

I rejoiced greatly that I have found some of your children walking in truth, as we received commandment from the Father.

І цяпер прашу цябе, гаспадарыня — не як новую запаведзь пішучы табе, а тую, якую мы мелі ад пачатку, — каб мы любілі адзін аднаго.

And now I plead with you, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment to you, but that which we have had from the beginning: that we love one another.

І гэта ёсць любоў: каб мы жылі паводле Яго запаведзяў; гэта ёсць запаведзь, як вы чулі ад пачатку, каб вы паводле яе жылі.

This is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, that as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it.

Бо многа ашуканцаў выйшла2 ў свет, тых, што не вызнаюць Ісуса Хрыста, Які прыйшоў у целе. Такі чалавек ашуканец і антыхрыст.

For many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

Глядзіце за сабою, каб не страціць вам3 таго, над чым мы працавалі, а каб атрымаць поўную ўзнагароду.

Look to yourselves, that [c]we do not lose those things we worked for, but that we may receive a full reward.

Кожны, хто пераступае вучэнне Хрыста і не жыве ў ім, не мае Бога; хто жыве ў вучэнні [Хрыстовым], той мае і Бацьку і Сына.

Whoever [d]transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son.

Калі хто-небудзь прыходзіць да вас і не прыносіць гэтага вучэння, не прымайце яго ў дом і не кажыце яму: «Радавацца!»4

If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him;

Бо той, хто кажа яму: «Радавацца!» — саўдзельнічае ў яго ліхіх учынках.

for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds.

Шмат маю пісаць вам, але не хачу пісаць на паперы чарніламі, а спадзяюся прыйсці да вас і пагаварыць з вуснаў у вусны, каб радасць наша была поўнаю.

Having many things to write to you, I did not wish to do so with paper and ink; but I hope to come to you and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.

Вітаюць цябе дзеці тваёй выбранай сястры. [Амін].

The children of your elect sister greet you. Amen.
