Быў чалавек у зямлі Уц, імя ягонае Ёў; і быў чалавек гэты беззаганны а пасьцівы, і ён баяўся Бога, і адхінаўся ад ліха.

In the land of Uz there lived a man whose name was Job. This man was blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil.

І нарадзілася ў яго сямёх сыноў і тры дачкі.

He had seven sons and three daughters,

І было ў яго драбнога статку сем тысячаў, тры тысячы вярблюдоў, пяцьсот пар валоў а пяцьсот асьліцаў, і вельмі шмат чэлядзі: і быў чалавек гэты вялікшы за ўсіх сыноў усходу.

and he owned seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen and five hundred donkeys, and had a large number of servants. He was the greatest man among all the people of the East.

Сынове ягоныя зыходзіліся, спраўляючы чэсьці кажны свайго дня ў доме сваім, і пасылалі й звалі тры сястры свае есьці й піць із імі.

His sons used to hold feasts in their homes on their birthdays, and they would invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them.

Як радоўка дзён чэсьцяў канчалася, Ёў пасылаў па іх, і пасьвячаў іх, і, устаючы рана нараніцы, спраўляў усепаленьні подле ліку ўсіх іх; бо гукаў ён: «Можа ізграшылі сынове мае і зганілі Бога ў сэрцу сваім». Гэтак рабіў Ёў усі дні.

When a period of feasting had run its course, Job would make arrangements for them to be purified. Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them, thinking, “Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.” This was Job’s regular custom.

І быў дзень, калі прышлі сынове Божыя стаць перад СПАДАРОМ; і прышоў таксама шайтан памеж іх.

One day the angelsa came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satanb also came with them.

І сказаў СПАДАР шайтану: «Скуль ты прышоў?» І адказаў шайтан СПАДАРУ, і сказаў: «Я абходзіў зямлю й абышоў яе».

The Lord said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Satan answered the Lord, “From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it.”

І сказаў СПАДАР шайтану: «Ці зьвярнуў ты ўвагу на слугу Майго Ёва? гэтаж няма такога, як ён, на зямлі: чалавек беззаганны, пасьцівы, баіцца Бога й адварачаецца ад ліха».

Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.”

І адказаў шайтан СПАДАРУ і сказаў: «Ціж дарма Ёў багабойлівы?

“Does Job fear God for nothing?” Satan replied.

Ці ня Ты агарадзіў навокал яго, і навокал дому ягонага, і навокал усяго, што навокал у яго? Работу рук ягоных Ты дабраславіў, і стады ягоныя пашырыў па зямлі.

“Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land.

Але выцягні руку Сваю і даткніся ўсёга, што ў яго, — ці ня згане ён Цябе ў відзеньне Твае?»

But now stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face.”

І сказаў СПАДАР шайтану: «Вось, усе, што ў яго, у руццэ тваёй; адно на яго не выцягай рукі свае». І адышоў шайтан ад віду СПАДАРОВАГА.

The Lord said to Satan, “Very well, then, everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.” Then Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.

І быў дзень, калі сынове ягоныя а дачкі ягоныя елі й пілі віно ў доме першароднага брата свайго,

One day when Job’s sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother’s house,

І прышоў пасланец да Ёва, і сказаў:

a messenger came to Job and said, “The oxen were plowing and the donkeys were grazing nearby,

«Валы аралі, і асьліцы хадзілі ля іх, як напалі Савяне і ўзялі іх, а дзяцюкоў забілі лязом мяча; толькі я адзін уцёк, каб наказаць табе».

and the Sabeans attacked and made off with them. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!”

Яшчэ ён гукаў, як прыходзе другі й кажа: «Цяпло Божае ўпала зь неба, і папаліла авечкі а дзяцюкоў, і пажэрла іх; і толькі я адзін уцёк, каб наказаць табе».

While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, “The fire of God fell from the heavens and burned up the sheep and the servants, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!”

Яшчэ ён гукаў, як прыходзе другі й кажа: «Хальдэі разьлягліся трыма аддзеламі, і кінуліся на вярблюды, і ўзялі іх, і дзяцюкоў забілі лязом мяча; і толькі я адзін уцёк, каб наказаць табе».

While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, “The Chaldeans formed three raiding parties and swept down on your camels and made off with them. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!”

Яшчэ ён гукаў, прыходзе іншы й кажа: «Сынове твае а дачкі твае елі й пілі віно ў доме першароднага брата свайго;

While he was still speaking, yet another messenger came and said, “Your sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother’s house,

І вось, узьняўся вялікі вецер із тога боку пустыні, і ахапіў чатыры вуглы дому, і ўпаў на дзяцюкоў, і яны памерлі; і толькі я адзін уцёк, каб наказаць табе».

when suddenly a mighty wind swept in from the desert and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on them and they are dead, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!”

Тады Ёў устаў, і разьдзер вопратку, астрыг галаву сваю, і паў на зямлю, і пакланіўся,

At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship

І сказаў: «Голы я вышаў із жывата маці свае, голы й зьвярнуся туды. СПАДАР даў, СПАДАР і ўзяў; хай будзе імя СПАДАРОВА дабраславена!»

and said: “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart.c The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.”

У вусім гэтым не ізграшыў Ёў і не праказаў неразумнага Богу.

In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing.
