King David was now very old, and no matter how many blankets covered him, he could not keep warm.

І цар Давід састарэўся і меў вельмі шмат гадоў; і не мог ён сагрэцца, хоць накрывалі яго коўдрамі.

So his advisers told him, “Let us find a young virgin to wait on you and look after you, my lord. She will lie in your arms and keep you warm.”

І сказалі паслугачы яго: «Трэба знайсці гаспадару нашаму, цару, маладую дзяўчыну, і хай яна стане перад царом, і клапоціцца аб ім, і хай спіць на яго грудзях, і грэе гаспадара нашага, цара».

So they searched throughout the land of Israel for a beautiful girl, and they found Abishag from Shunem and brought her to the king.

І шукалі прыгожую маладую дзяўчыну па ўсёй зямлі Ізраэльскай, і знайшлі Абісаг, сунаміцянку, і прывялі яе да цара.

The girl was very beautiful, and she looked after the king and took care of him. But the king had no sexual relations with her.

Дзяўчына ж была вельмі прыгожая; і яна апекавалася над царом і паслугавала яму, але цар не дакрануўся да яе.

About that time David’s son Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, began boasting, “I will make myself king.” So he provided himself with chariots and charioteers and recruited fifty men to run in front of him.

А Адонія, сын Хагіт, узганарыўся і казаў: «Я буду цараваць!» І займеў ён сабе калясніцу, і коннікаў, і пяцьдзесят чалавек, што беглі перад ім.

Now his father, King David, had never disciplined him at any time, even by asking, “Why are you doing that?” Adonijah had been born next after Absalom, and he was very handsome.

І бацька яго ніколі з ім не сварыўся, кажучы: «Нашто ты гэта зрабіў?» А быў ён і сам вельмі прыгожы, другі сын па Абсаломе.

Adonijah took Joab son of Zeruiah and Abiathar the priest into his confidence, and they agreed to help him become king.

But Zadok the priest, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei, Rei, and David’s personal bodyguard refused to support Adonijah.

Adonijah went to the Stone of Zoheletha near the spring of En-rogel, where he sacrificed sheep, cattle, and fattened calves. He invited all his brothers — the other sons of King David — and all the royal officials of Judah.

But he did not invite Nathan the prophet or Benaiah or the king’s bodyguard or his brother Solomon.

Then Nathan went to Bathsheba, Solomon’s mother, and asked her, “Haven’t you heard that Haggith’s son, Adonijah, has made himself king, and our lord David doesn’t even know about it?

Дык сказаў Натан Бэтсэбе, маці Саламона: «Ці ты не чула, што царуе Адонія, сын Хагіт, і што гаспадар наш Давід гэтага не ведае?

If you want to save your own life and the life of your son Solomon, follow my advice.

Go at once to King David and say to him, ‘My lord the king, didn’t you make a vow and say to me, “Your son Solomon will surely be the next king and will sit on my throne”? Why then has Adonijah become king?’

І ідзі, і ўвайдзі да цара Давіда, і скажы яму: “Гаспадару мой, цар, ці не прысягнуў ты мне, паслугачцы тваёй, кажучы: “Саламон, сын твой, будзе па мне цараваць, і ён будзе сядзець на маім пасадзе?” Дык чаму царуе Адонія?”

And while you are still talking with him, I will come and confirm everything you have said.”

І калі ты яшчэ будзеш размаўляць там з царом, за табою прыйду я і падтрымаю словы твае».

So Bathsheba went into the king’s bedroom. (He was very old now, and Abishag was taking care of him.)

Тады Бэтсэба ўвайшла да цара ў спальню; цар жа быў надта стары, і сунаміцянка Абісаг паслугавала яму.

Bathsheba bowed down before the king. “What can I do for you?” he asked her.

І ўкленчыла Бэтсэба, і пакланілася цару; а цар звярнуўся да яе: «Чаго ты хочаш сабе?»

She replied, “My lord, you made a vow before the LORD your God when you said to me, ‘Your son Solomon will surely be the next king and will sit on my throne.’

Яна адказала яму: «Гаспадару мой, ты прысягнуў Госпадам, Богам тваім, паслугачцы тваёй: “Саламон, сын твой, будзе цараваць пасля мяне і ён будзе сядзець на пасадзе маім”,

But instead, Adonijah has made himself king, and my lord the king does not even know about it.

а вось цяпер Адонія царуе, калі ты, гаспадар мой, цар, не ведаеш пра гэта.

He has sacrificed many cattle, fattened calves, and sheep, and he has invited all the king’s sons to attend the celebration. He also invited Abiathar the priest and Joab, the commander of the army. But he did not invite your servant Solomon.

Забіў ён валоў, і ўсю тлустую жывёлу, і мноства авечак, і запрасіў усіх сыноў цара, таксама Абіятара, святара, і Ёаба, кіраўніка войска; а Саламона, паслугача твайго, не паклікаў.

And now, my lord the king, all Israel is waiting for you to announce who will become king after you.

Але ты, гаспадару мой, — цар, на цябе звернуты вочы ўсяго Ізраэля, каб ты яму аб’явіў, хто па табе, гаспадар мой, цар, павінен сядзець на тваім пасадзе!

If you do not act, my son Solomon and I will be treated as criminals as soon as my lord the king has died.”

Інакш, калі ты, гаспадар мой, цар, заснеш з бацькамі сваімі, на мяне і на сына майго Саламона спадзе абвінавачванне».

While she was still speaking with the king, Nathan the prophet arrived.

Калі яна яшчэ гаварыла з царом, прыйшоў і прарок Натан.

The king’s officials told him, “Nathan the prophet is here to see you.” Nathan went in and bowed before the king with his face to the ground.

Nathan asked, “My lord the king, have you decided that Adonijah will be the next king and that he will sit on your throne?

сказаў Натан: «Гаспадару мой, цар, ці ты сказаў: “Адонія хай царуе пасля мяне, і хай ён сядзе на пасад мой?”

Today he has sacrificed many cattle, fattened calves, and sheep, and he has invited all the king’s sons to attend the celebration. He also invited the commanders of the army and Abiathar the priest. They are feasting and drinking with him and shouting, ‘Long live King Adonijah!’

Таму што сёння ён пайшоў і забіў у ахвяру валоў, і тлустую жывёлу, і мноства авечак, і запрасіў усіх сыноў царскіх, і начальнікаў войска, і святара Абіятара, і яны разам з ім ядуць, і п’юць, і гамоняць: “Хай жыве цар Адонія!”

But he did not invite me or Zadok the priest or Benaiah or your servant Solomon.

А мяне, твайго паслугача, і святара Садока, і Банаю, сына Ёяды, і Саламона, паслугача твайго, ён не запрасіў.

Has my lord the king really done this without letting any of his officials know who should be the next king?”

Ці не сталася гэта па волі гаспадара майго, цара, і чаму ты не аб’явіў мне, слузе твайму, хто будзе сядзець на пасадзе гаспадара майго, цара, пасля яго?»

King David responded, “Call Bathsheba!” So she came back in and stood before the king.

And the king repeated his vow: “As surely as the LORD lives, who has rescued me from every danger,

your son Solomon will be the next king and will sit on my throne this very day, just as I vowed to you before the LORD, the God of Israel.”

як я пакляўся табе Госпадам, Богам Ізраэля, кажучы: “Саламон, сын твой, будзе цараваць пасля мяне, і ён сядзе на мой пасад замест мяне”, — так сёння і зраблю».

Then Bathsheba bowed down with her face to the ground before the king and exclaimed, “May my lord King David live forever!”

І Бэтсэба, упаўшы тварам на зямлю, пакланілася цару і сказала: «Няхай жыве, гаспадар мой, цар Давід, вечна!»

Then King David ordered, “Call Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada.” When they came into the king’s presence,

І загадаў цар Давід: «Паклічце да мяне Садока, святара, і Натана, прарока, і Банаю, сына Ёяды». Калі яны з’явіліся перад царом,

the king said to them, “Take Solomon and my officials down to Gihon Spring. Solomon is to ride on my own mule.

сказаў ён ім: «Вазьміце з сабою паслугачоў гаспадара вашага і пасадзіце Саламона, сына майго, на мула майго, і вядзіце яго ў Гіхон,

There Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet are to anoint him king over Israel. Blow the ram’s horn and shout, ‘Long live King Solomon!’

і хай там святар Садок і прарок Натан намасцяць яго на цара Ізраэля, і затрубіце ў рог, і абвясціце: “Хай жыве цар Саламон!”

Then escort him back here, and he will sit on my throne. He will succeed me as king, for I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and Judah.”

І пойдзеце за ім, і прыйдзе ён, і сядзе на пасад мой, і будзе цараваць замест мяне; і я загадаю яму, каб быў ён валадаром над Ізраэлем і над Юдэяй».

“Amen!” Benaiah son of Jehoiada replied. “May the LORD, the God of my lord the king, decree that it happen.

І ў адказ Баная, сын Ёяды, сказаў цару: «Амін, хай скажа гэтак Госпад, Бог гаспадара майго, цара!

And may the LORD be with Solomon as he has been with you, my lord the king, and may he make Solomon’s reign even greater than yours!”

Як быў Госпад з гаспадаром маім царом, так няхай будзе Ён з Саламонам і хай узвялічыць пасад яго больш за пасад гаспадара майго, цара Давіда!»

So Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and the king’s bodyguardb took Solomon down to Gihon Spring, with Solomon riding on King David’s own mule.

І пайшоў Садок, святар, і Натан, прарок, і Баная, сын Ёяды, і херэты, і фелеты, і пасадзілі Саламона на мула цара Давіда і прывязлі яго ў Гіхон.

There Zadok the priest took the flask of olive oil from the sacred tent and anointed Solomon with the oil. Then they sounded the ram’s horn and all the people shouted, “Long live King Solomon!”

Там святар Садок узяў рог алею са скініі, і памазаў Саламона; і затрубіў у рог, і закрычаў увесь народ: «Хай жыве цар Саламон!»

And all the people followed Solomon into Jerusalem, playing flutes and shouting for joy. The celebration was so joyous and noisy that the earth shook with the sound.

І увесь народ праводзіў Саламона, і граў народ на флейтах, і радаваўся вялікай радасцю, і зямля шумела ад іх гомана.

Adonijah and his guests heard the celebrating and shouting just as they were finishing their banquet. When Joab heard the sound of the ram’s horn, he asked, “What’s going on? Why is the city in such an uproar?”

І пачуў Адонія і ўсе запрошаныя ім; і ўжо застолле было скончана. Але і Ёаб, пачуўшы гук трубы, сказаў: «Што гэта за гоман узрушанага горада?»

And while he was still speaking, Jonathan son of Abiathar the priest arrived. “Come in,” Adonijah said to him, “for you are a good man. You must have good news.”

Калі ён яшчэ гаварыў, прыйшоў Ёнатан, сын Абіятара, святара; сказаў яму Адонія: «Увайдзі, бо ты чалавек дастойны і добрае нам абвяшчаеш».

“Not at all!” Jonathan replied. “Our lord King David has just declared Solomon king!

І Ёнатан сказаў Адоніі: «Зусім не! Бо гаспадар наш, цар Давід, абвясціў царом Саламона,

The king sent him down to Gihon Spring with Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada, protected by the king’s bodyguard. They had him ride on the king’s own mule,

і паслаў з ім Садока, святара, і Натана, прарока, і Банаю, сына Ёяды, і херэтаў, і фелетаў; і яны пасадзілі Саламона на мула цара,

and Zadok and Nathan have anointed him at Gihon Spring as the new king. They have just returned, and the whole city is celebrating and rejoicing. That’s what all the noise is about.

і святар Садок і прарок Натан намасцілі яго на цара ў Гіхоне. І адтуль выйшлі яны з радасцю, і горад загаманіў; гэта той гоман, які вы чуеце.

What’s more, Solomon is now sitting on the royal throne as king.

Але і Саламон сядзеў на пасадзе царскім,

And all the royal officials have gone to King David and congratulated him, saying, ‘May your God make Solomon’s fame even greater than your own, and may Solomon’s reign be even greater than yours!’ Then the king bowed his head in worship as he lay in his bed,

і царскія паслугачы папрыходзілі дабраславіць гаспадара нашага, цара Давіда, кажучы: “Хай Бог праславіць імя Саламона па-над тваім імем, і ўзвялічыць пасад яго па-над тваім пасадам”. І цар пакланіўся на ложку сваім.

and he said, ‘Praise the LORD, the God of Israel, who today has chosen a successor to sit on my throne while I am still alive to see it.’”

І, апроч таго, сказаў ён так: “Дабраславёны Госпад, Бог Ізраэля, Які даў сёння вачам маім бачыць таго, хто сядзіць на пасадзе маім”».

Then all of Adonijah’s guests jumped up in panic from the banquet table and quickly scattered.

Такім чынам, спалохаліся і паўскаквалі ўсе, запрошаныя Адоніем, і кожны з іх пайшоў сваёй дарогаю.

Adonijah was afraid of Solomon, so he rushed to the sacred tent and grabbed on to the horns of the altar.

А Адонія, баючыся Саламона, устаў і пайшоў, і ўхапіўся за рогі ахвярніка.

Word soon reached Solomon that Adonijah had seized the horns of the altar in fear, and that he was pleading, “Let King Solomon swear today that he will not kill me!”

І паведамілі пра гэта Саламону, кажучы: «Вось, Адонія, баючыся цара Саламона, ухапіўся за рогі ахвярніка, кажучы: “Хай сёння прысягне мне цар Саламон, што не заб’е паслугача свайго мечам”».

Solomon replied, “If he proves himself to be loyal, not a hair on his head will be touched. But if he makes trouble, he will die.”

І Саламон сказаў: «Калі ён будзе чалавекам добрым, не ўпадзе на зямлю ніводны волас яго; але калі выявіцца ў ім ліха, то памрэ».

So King Solomon summoned Adonijah, and they brought him down from the altar. He came and bowed respectfully before King Solomon, who dismissed him, saying, “Go on home.”

І паслаў за ім Саламон, і адвялі яго ад ахвярніка, і ён увайшоў і пакланіўся цару Саламону; і Саламон сказаў яму: «Ідзі дамоў».
