Священник Пашхур, сын Иммера, был служителем самого высокого ранга в храме Господнем. Пашхур слышал, как Иеремия проповедовал во дворе храма.

Now Pashur the son of Immer the priest, who was also chief governor in the house of the LORD, heard that Jeremiah prophesied these things.

Он избил Иеремию и надел ему на руки и на ноги деревянные колодки. Это произошло у Верхних ворот Вениамина при храме.

Then Pashur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the LORD.

На следующий день, когда Пашхур освободил Иеремию из колодок, Иеремия сказал ему: «Господнее имя для тебя не „Пашхур”, а „Повсеместный Ужас”.

And it came to pass on the morrow, that Pashur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then said Jeremiah unto him, The LORD hath not called thy name Pashur, but Magormissabib.

Таково имя твоё, потому что Господь сказал: „Я скоро сделаю так, что ты приведёшь в ужас не только самого себя, но и своих друзей. Ты будешь видеть, как твои враги убивают твоих друзей мечами. Я отдам весь народ Иудеи вавилонскому царю, и он уведёт их всех в Вавилон, а его солдаты мечами убьют всех людей Иудеи.

For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will make thee a terror to thyself, and to all thy friends: and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall behold it: and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive into Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword.

Жители Иерусалима много трудились, чтобы разбогатеть, но Я отдам их богатства врагам. Богат царь Иерусалима, но и его сокровища попадут в руки врагов, которые всё унесут в Вавилон.

Moreover I will deliver all the strength of this city, and all the labours thereof, and all the precious things thereof, and all the treasures of the kings of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies, which shall spoil them, and take them, and carry them to Babylon.

И тебя, Пашхур, и всех в твоём доме заберут в плен. Вас заставят уйти и умереть в Вавилоне, где вас и похоронят. Ты пророчествуешь ложь своим друзьям, говоря, что ничего не случится, но все твои друзья умрут и будут похоронены в Вавилоне”».

And thou, Pashur, and all that dwell in thine house shall go into captivity: and thou shalt come to Babylon, and there thou shalt die, and shalt be buried there, thou, and all thy friends, to whom thou hast prophesied lies.

Ты обманул меня, Господь, и я действительно обманут. Ты победил, поскольку Ты сильней. Я стал посмешищем, и люди весь день смеются надо мной.

O LORD, thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived: thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am in derision daily, every one mocketh me.

Каждый раз я взываю к ним, кричу. Я всегда воплю, предупреждая о разрушении и насилии. Я людям весть Господа несу, но мне в ответ лишь оскорбления и насмешки.

For since I spake, I cried out, I cried violence and spoil; because the word of the LORD was made a reproach unto me, and a derision, daily.

Я сам себе порою говорю: «Забуду Господа, не буду больше я говорить от имени Его», но каждый раз, когда я мысль такую допускаю, Господняя весть как будто огонь меня сжигает изнутри, она словно огонь в моих костях. Устал я, пытаясь весть Господнюю сдерживать внутри себя, я больше не в силах её в себе хранить.

Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.

Я слышал шёпот злобный и угрозы многих, и даже все друзья против меня. Все ждут, когда я оступлюсь, и говорят: «Давайте оклевещем его и скажем, что он согрешил. Быть может, мы обманем Иеремию и, от него избавившись, отомстим ему».

For I heard the defaming of many, fear on every side. Report, say they, and we will report it. All my familiars watched for my halting, saying, Peradventure he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.

Но Господь со мной как сильный воин, поэтому мои враги споткнутся и меня не победят, не сбудутся их планы, и будут навечно опозорены они.

But the LORD is with me as a mighty terrible one: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail: they shall be greatly ashamed; for they shall not prosper: their everlasting confusion shall never be forgotten.

Господь Всесильный, Ты испытываешь добрых, Ты в сердце смотришь глубоко. Я всё Тебе сказал об этих людях. Позволь увидеть, как Ты воздаёшь им по заслугам.

But, O LORD of hosts, that triest the righteous, and seest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for unto thee have I opened my cause.

Пой Господу и восхваляй Его! Господь спасает жизни бедных от злодеев!

Sing unto the LORD, praise ye the LORD: for he hath delivered the soul of the poor from the hand of evildoers.

Будь проклят день, когда родился я, пусть никогда благословен не будет день, в который мать родила меня на свет!

Cursed be the day wherein I was born: let not the day wherein my mother bare me be blessed.

Будь проклят человек, который моего отца обрадовал известием о моём рождении! Он сказал ему: «У тебя родился сын», что моего отца обрадовало очень.

Cursed be the man who brought tidings to my father, saying, A man child is born unto thee; making him very glad.

Пусть этого человека постигнет та же судьба, что и города, которые Господь уничтожил, к ним жалости не зная. Да будет по утрам тот человек слышать клич, предвещающий сражение, а в полдень — боевые крики

And let that man be as the cities which the LORD overthrew, and repented not: and let him hear the cry in the morning, and the shouting at noontide;

за то, что он меня не погубил во чреве материнском. Если бы он меня тогда убил, мне бы мать моя могилой стала и я бы не родился никогда.

Because he slew me not from the womb; or that my mother might have been my grave, and her womb to be always great with me.

Зачем из тела матери я вышел? Ведь, кроме скорби и несчастья, больше ничего не видел я, и, несомненно, жизнь моя окончится позором.

Wherefore came I forth out of the womb to see labour and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?
