Когда Пашхур, сын Иммера, священник, бывший надзирателем и управляющим в Храме1 ГОСПОДНЕМ, услышал, как Иеремия возвещал все эти слова,

Now Pashur the son of Immer the priest, who was also chief governor in the house of the LORD, heard that Jeremiah prophesied these things.

то ударил Пашхур Иеремию-пророка и велел забить его в колодки, что у Верхних ворот, ворот Вениаминовых в Храме ГОСПОДНЕМ.

Then Pashur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the LORD.

А когда на следующий день повелел Пашхур освободить Иеремию из колодок, тот сказал ему: «Не Пашхуром назвал тебя ГОСПОДЬ, но „Ужасом, который охватит всех“.

And it came to pass on the morrow, that Pashur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then said Jeremiah unto him, The LORD hath not called thy name Pashur, but Magormissabib.

Так говорит ГОСПОДЬ: „Станешь ты ужасом для самого себя и для друзей твоих, потому что у тебя на глазах падут они от вражеского меча. Иудею же Я предам в руки царя Вавилонского, и он уведет жителей ее в плен и там поразит их мечом.

For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will make thee a terror to thyself, and to all thy friends: and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall behold it: and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive into Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword.

Всё богатство города этого и его достояние, все ценности жителей и сокровища царей иудейских Я отдам в руки врагов их. И они разграбят всё, заберут и унесут в Вавилон.

Moreover I will deliver all the strength of this city, and all the labours thereof, and all the precious things thereof, and all the treasures of the kings of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies, which shall spoil them, and take them, and carry them to Babylon.

Что же до тебя, Пашхур, то ты сам и все твои домочадцы будете захвачены в плен и угнаны в Вавилон, где ты и умрешь и будешь похоронен вместе с друзьями твоими, которым ты пророчествовал лживо“».

And thou, Pashur, and all that dwell in thine house shall go into captivity: and thou shalt come to Babylon, and there thou shalt die, and shalt be buried there, thou, and all thy friends, to whom thou hast prophesied lies.

Ты увлек меня, ГОСПОДИ, я последовал за Тобою, Ты пересилил меня и одолел.2 Стал я для всех посмешищем, изо дня в день глумятся они надо мной.

O LORD, thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived: thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am in derision daily, every one mocketh me.

Всякий раз, когда я должен пророчествовать, мне приходится кричать о насилии и разорении. Из-за слова ГОСПОДНЕГО я изо дня в день терплю поношение и насмешки.

For since I spake, I cried out, I cried violence and spoil; because the word of the LORD was made a reproach unto me, and a derision, daily.

Лишь скажу я себе: «Не стану более упоминать о Нем и во имя Его говорить более не буду», — в сердце моем будто вспыхивает огонь, он и в костях моих заключен, стараюсь удержать его, но не могу.

Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.

Слышу я шепот многих у себя за спиной: «Ужас объял всех!» «Разоблачите его! Мы разоблачим его! — говорят мои близкие и ожидают, когда я споткнусь. — Может, он поддастся на соблазн, и тогда мы его одолеем и отомстим ему!»

For I heard the defaming of many, fear on every side. Report, say they, and we will report it. All my familiars watched for my halting, saying, Peradventure he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.

Но ГОСПОДЬ со мною, как сильный воин, вселяющий страх во врага! Потому гонители мои споткнутся и не одолеют меня! Не добьются они своего и будут посрамлены: падет на них вечный позор, о котором не забыть!

But the LORD is with me as a mighty terrible one: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail: they shall be greatly ashamed; for they shall not prosper: their everlasting confusion shall never be forgotten.

Ты, ГОСПОДЬ Воинств, испытуешь праведного, читаешь в сердцах и умах! Дай мне увидеть возмездие Твое над ними, ибо тяжбу свою я вверил Тебе.

But, O LORD of hosts, that triest the righteous, and seest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for unto thee have I opened my cause.

Пойте ГОСПОДУ, славьте ГОСПОДА! Ибо Он спас жизнь обездоленного от рук злодеев!

Sing unto the LORD, praise ye the LORD: for he hath delivered the soul of the poor from the hand of evildoers.

Будь проклят день, когда я был рожден, день, когда родила меня моя мать, — да не будет на нем благословения!

Cursed be the day wherein I was born: let not the day wherein my mother bare me be blessed.

Будь проклят тот, кто принес весть отцу моему: «Сын у тебя родился, мальчик!» — и тем обрадовал его.

Cursed be the man who brought tidings to my father, saying, A man child is born unto thee; making him very glad.

Да постигнет его та же участь, что постигла города, которые ГОСПОДЬ не пощадил и предал разрушению. Пусть слышит он вопли поутру и боевой клич в полдень

And let that man be as the cities which the LORD overthrew, and repented not: and let him hear the cry in the morning, and the shouting at noontide;

за то, что не убил меня еще в утробе, и мать моя не стала мне могилой, не осталась она навеки в тягости.

Because he slew me not from the womb; or that my mother might have been my grave, and her womb to be always great with me.

Для чего вышел я из чрева — для того ли, чтобы видеть страдания и горе и провести свои дни в бесславии?

Wherefore came I forth out of the womb to see labour and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?

7 [2] — Этот стих труден для понимания из-за употребленного здесь евр. слова пата, основное значение которого «соблазнить» или «обмануть», в сочетании со словом хазак со значением «добиться силой». Подвергаясь насмешкам, Иеремия впадает в уныние и сетует (ср. 12:1−4; 15:10−18). Он испытывает страх, и, вероятно, ему начинает казаться, что он подвергся чрезмерному давлению (см. 1:7,8,17−19; ср. Иез 14:9).
