My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous.

Дети мои, это пишу вам, чтобы вы не грешили. А если бы кто согрешил, то мы имеем Ходатаем перед Отцом Иисуса Христа, Праведного.

He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins — and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.

И Сам Он есть умилостивление за грехи наши, и не только за наши, но и за грехи всего мира.

And we can be sure that we know him if we obey his commandments.

А что мы познали Его, мы узнаём из того, что соблюдаем Его заповеди.

If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth.

Кто говорит: я познал Его и заповедей Его не соблюдает, тот лжец и нет в нем истины.

But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him.

А кто соблюдает слово Его, в том воистину любовь Божия совершенна. Из этого мы узнаём, что мы в Нем.

Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.

Кто говорит, что пребывает в Нем, тот должен и сам поступать так, как Он поступал.

Dear friends, I am not writing a new commandment for you; rather it is an old one you have had from the very beginning. This old commandment — to love one another — is the same message you heard before.

Возлюбленные, не заповедь новую пишу вам, но заповедь древнюю, которую вы имели от начала: заповедь древняя есть слово, которое вы слышали.

Yet it is also new. Jesus lived the truth of this commandment, and you also are living it. For the darkness is disappearing, and the true light is already shining.

Но притом и заповедь новую пишу вам, что есть истинно в Нем и в вас, потому что тьма проходит, и свет истинный уже светит.

If anyone claims, “I am living in the light,” but hates a fellow believer,a that person is still living in darkness.

Кто говорит, что он во свете, и брата своего ненавидит, тот — во тьме и доныне.

Anyone who loves a fellow believerb is living in the light and does not cause others to stumble.

Кто любит брата своего, тот пребывает во свете, и нет в нем соблазна,

But anyone who hates a fellow believer is still living and walking in darkness. Such a person does not know the way to go, having been blinded by the darkness.

А кто ненавидит брата своего, тот — во тьме, и во тьме ходит и не знает, куда идет, потому что тьма ослепила ему глаза.

I am writing to you who are God’s children because your sins have been forgiven through Jesus.c

Пишу вам, дети, потому что отпущены вам грехи ради имени Его.

I am writing to you who are mature in the faithd because you know Christ, who existed from the beginning. I am writing to you who are young in the faith because you have won your battle with the evil one.

Пишу вам, отцы, потому что вы познали Того, Кто от начала. Пишу вам, юноши, потому что вы победили лукавого.

I have written to you who are God’s children because you know the Father. I have written to you who are mature in the faith because you know Christ, who existed from the beginning. I have written to you who are young in the faith because you are strong. God’s word lives in your hearts, and you have won your battle with the evil one.

Я написал вам, дети, потому что вы познали Отца. Я написал вам, отцы, потому что вы познали Того, Кто от начала. Я написал вам, юноши, потому что вы сильны, и слово Божие в вас пребывает, и вы победили лукавого.

Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you.

Не любите мира, ни того, что в мире. Если кто любит мир, в том нет любви Отца,

For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.

потому что всё, что в мире: похоть плоти и похоть очей и гордость житейская — не от Отца, но от мира.

And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.

И мир проходит, и похоть его; но творящий волю Божию пребывает вовек.

Dear children, the last hour is here. You have heard that the Antichrist is coming, and already many such antichrists have appeared. From this we know that the last hour has come.

Дети, последний час: и как вы слышали, что Антихрист грядет, и теперь появилось много антихристов; отсюда и знаем, что последний час.

These people left our churches, but they never really belonged with us; otherwise they would have stayed with us. When they left, it proved that they did not belong with us.

Они вышли от нас, но не были наши; ибо, если бы они были наши, то остались бы с нами: но они вышли, чтобы было явлено, что не все наши.

But you are not like that, for the Holy One has given you his Spirit,e and all of you know the truth.

Вы же имеете помазание от Святого и знаете все.

So I am writing to you not because you don’t know the truth but because you know the difference between truth and lies.

Я написал вам не потому, чтобы вы не знали истины, но потому, что вы знаете её, и что всякая ложь не от истины.

And who is a liar? Anyone who says that Jesus is not the Christ.f Anyone who denies the Father and the Son is an antichrist.g

Кто лжец, если не тот, кто отрицает, что Иисус есть Христос? Это — антихрист, отрицающий Отца и Сына.

Anyone who denies the Son doesn’t have the Father, either. But anyone who acknowledges the Son has the Father also.

Всякий, отрицающий Сына, не имеет и Отца. Исповедующий Сына, имеет и Отца.

So you must remain faithful to what you have been taught from the beginning. If you do, you will remain in fellowship with the Son and with the Father.

Что вы слышали от начала, то да пребывает в вас; если пребудет в вас то, что вы слышали от начала, то и вы пребудете в Сыне и в Отце.

And in this fellowship we enjoy the eternal life he promised us.

И это — обещание Его, которое Он Сам обещал нам: жизнь вечная.

I am writing these things to warn you about those who want to lead you astray.

Это я написал вам о вводящих вас в заблуждение.

But you have received the Holy Spirit,h and he lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spiriti teaches you everything you need to know, and what he teaches is true — it is not a lie. So just as he has taught you, remain in fellowship with Christ.

А то помазание, которое вы получили от Него, пребывает в вас, и вы не имеете нужды, чтобы кто учил вас; но как Его помазание учит вас всему, и оно истинно и не есть ложь, то пребывайте в нем, как оно научило вас.

And now, dear children, remain in fellowship with Christ so that when he returns, you will be full of courage and not shrink back from him in shame.

А теперь, дети, пребывайте в Нем, чтобы, когда Он будет явлен, мы имели дерзновение и не были посрамлены пред Ним в пришествии Его.

Since we know that Christ is righteous, we also know that all who do what is right are God’s children.

Если вы знаете, что Он праведен, знайте, что и всякий, делающий правду, рожден от Него.
