This is my second letter to you, dear friends, and in both of them I have tried to stimulate your wholesome thinking and refresh your memory.

Сїѐ ѹ҆жѐ, возлю́бленнїи, второ́е ва́мъ пишѹ̀ посла́нїе, въ ни́хже возбѹжда́ю воспомина́нїемъ ва́шъ чи́стый смы́слъ,

I want you to remember what the holy prophets said long ago and what our Lord and Savior commanded through your apostles.

помѧнѹ́ти пре́жде речє́нныѧ глаго́лы ѿ ст҃ы́хъ про҇рѡ́къ, и҆ а҆п҇лъ ва́шихъ за́повѣдь гд҇а и҆ сп҃са:

Most importantly, I want to remind you that in the last days scoffers will come, mocking the truth and following their own desires.

сїѐ пре́жде вѣ́дѧще, ѩ҆́кѡ прїидѹ́тъ въ послѣ҄днїѧ днѝ рѹга́телє, по свои́хъ по́хотѣхъ ходѧ́ще

They will say, “What happened to the promise that Jesus is coming again? From before the times of our ancestors, everything has remained the same since the world was first created.”

и҆ глаго́люще: гдѣ̀ є҆́сть ѡ҆бѣтова́нїе прише́ствїѧ є҆гѡ̀, ѿне́лѣже бо ѻ҆тцы̀ ѹ҆спо́ша, всѧ҄ та́кѡ пребыва́ютъ ѿ нача́ла созда́нїѧ.

They deliberately forget that God made the heavens long ago by the word of his command, and he brought the earth out from the water and surrounded it with water.

Таи́тсѧ бо и҆̀мъ сїѐ хотѧ́щымъ, ѩ҆́кѡ небеса̀ бѣ́ша и҆спе́рва, и҆ землѧ̀ ѿ воды̀ и҆ водо́ю {и҆ посредѣ̀ воды̀} соста́влена, бж҃їимъ сло́вомъ:

Then he used the water to destroy the ancient world with a mighty flood.

тѣ́мже тогда́шнїи мі́ръ, водо́ю потопле́нъ бы́въ, поги́бе.

And by the same word, the present heavens and earth have been stored up for fire. They are being kept for the day of judgment, when ungodly people will be destroyed.

А҆ нн҃ѣшнѧѧ небеса̀ и҆ землѧ̀ тѣ́мже сло́вомъ сокровє́на сѹ́ть, ѻ҆гню̀ блюдѡ́ма на де́нь сѹда̀ и҆ поги́бели нечести́выхъ человѣ҄къ.

But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day.

Є҆ди́но же сїѐ да не ѹ҆таи́тсѧ ва́съ, возлю́бленнїи, ѩ҆́кѡ є҆ди́нъ де́нь пред̾ гд҇емъ ѩ҆́кѡ ты́сѧща лѣ́тъ, и҆ ты́сѧща лѣ́тъ ѩ҆́кѡ де́нь є҆ди́нъ.

The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.

Не косни́тъ гд҇ь ѡ҆бѣтова́нїѧ, ѩ҆́коже нѣ́цыи коснѣ́нїе мнѧ́тъ: но долготе́рпитъ на на́съ, не хотѧ̀ да кто̀ поги́бнетъ, но да всѝ въ покаѧ́нїе прїи́дѹтъ.

But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment.a

Прїи́детъ же де́нь гд҇ень ѩ҆́кѡ та́ть въ нощѝ, въ ѻ҆́ньже небеса̀ ѹ҆́бѡ съ шѹ́момъ ми́мѡ и҆́дѹтъ {по́йдѹтъ}, стїхї҄и же сжига́ємы разорѧ́тсѧ, землѧ́ же и҆ ѩ҆̀же на не́й дѣла̀ сгорѧ́тъ.

Since everything around us is going to be destroyed like this, what holy and godly lives you should live,

Си҄мъ ѹ҆̀бо всѣ҄мъ разорѧ́ємымъ, ка҄цѣмъ подоба́етъ бы́ти ва́мъ во ст҃ы́хъ пребыва́нїихъ и҆ бл҃гоче́стїихъ,

looking forward to the day of God and hurrying it along. On that day, he will set the heavens on fire, and the elements will melt away in the flames.

ча́ющымъ и҆ скорѣ́е бы́ти жела́ющымъ прише́ствїѧ бж҃їѧгѡ днѐ, є҆гѡ́же ра́ди небеса̀ жегѡ́ма разорѧ́тсѧ, и҆ стїхї҄и ѡ҆палѧ́ємы раста́ютсѧ;

But we are looking forward to the new heavens and new earth he has promised, a world filled with God’s righteousness.

Но́ва же нб҃сѐ и҆ но́вы землѝ по ѡ҆бѣтова́нїю є҆гѡ̀ ча́емъ, въ ни́хже пра́вда живе́тъ.

And so, dear friends, while you are waiting for these things to happen, make every effort to be found living peaceful lives that are pure and blameless in his sight.

Тѣ́мже, возлю́бленнїи, си́хъ ча́юще, потщи́тесѧ нескве́рни и҆ непоро́чни томѹ̀ ѡ҆брѣсти́сѧ въ ми́рѣ,

And remember, our Lord’s patience gives people time to be saved. This is what our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you with the wisdom God gave him —

и҆ гд҇а на́шегѡ долготерпѣ́нїе сп҇нїе непщѹ́йте, ѩ҆́коже и҆ возлю́бленный на́шъ бра́тъ па́ѵелъ по да́ннѣй є҆мѹ̀ премдрости написа̀ ва́мъ,

speaking of these things in all of his letters. Some of his comments are hard to understand, and those who are ignorant and unstable have twisted his letters to mean something quite different, just as they do with other parts of Scripture. And this will result in their destruction.

ѩ҆́коже и҆ во всѣ́хъ свои́хъ посла́нїихъ, глаго́лѧ въ ни́хъ ѡ҆ си́хъ: въ ни́хже сѹ́ть неѹдо́бь разѹ҄мна нѣ҄каѧ, ѩ҆̀же ненаѹче́ни и҆ неѹтвержде́ни развраща́ютъ, ѩ҆́коже и҆ прѡ́чаѧ писа҄нїѧ, къ свое́й поги́бели и҆́мъ.

You already know these things, dear friends. So be on guard; then you will not be carried away by the errors of these wicked people and lose your own secure footing.

Вы́ же ѹ҆̀бо, возлю́бленнїи, предвѣ́дѧще храни́тесѧ, да не ле́стїю беззако́нныхъ сведе́ни бы́вше, ѿпаде́те своегѡ̀ ѹ҆твержде́нїѧ,

Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. All glory to him, both now and forever! Amen.

но да расте́те во блгдти и҆ ра́зѹмѣ гд҇а на́шегѡ и҆ сп҃са ї҆и҃са хр҇та̀. Томѹ̀ сла́ва и҆ нн҃ѣ и҆ въ де́нь вѣ́ка. А҆ми́нь.
