In the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam began Abijah to reign over Judah.

В восемнадцатый год царствования Иеровоама воцарился Авия над Иудой.

He reigned three years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Michaiah, the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. And there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.

Три года он царствовал в Иерусалиме; имя матери его Михаия, дочь Уриила, из Гивы. И была война у Авии с Иеровоамом.

And Abijah began the war with an army of men of war, four hundred thousand chosen men; and Jeroboam set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, mighty men of valour.

И вывел Авия на войну войско, состоявшее из людей храбрых, из четырехсот тысяч человек отборных; а Иеровоам выступил против него на войну с восемьюстами тысячами человек, также отборных, храбрых.

And Abijah stood up on the top of mount Zemaraim, which is in mount Ephraim, and said, Hear me, Jeroboam, and all Israel!

И стал Авия на вершине горы Цемараимской, одной из гор Ефремовых, и говорил: «Послушайте меня, Иеровоам и все израильтяне!

Ought ye not to know that Jehovah the God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, to him and to his sons [by] a covenant of salt?

Не знаете ли вы, что Господь, Бог Израилев, дал царство Давиду над Израилем навек, ему и сыновьям его, по завету соли?

But Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, rose up and rebelled against his lord.

Но восстал Иеровоам, сын Навата, раб Соломона, сына Давида, и возмутился против господина своего.

And vain men, sons of Belial, gathered to him and strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, and Rehoboam was young and faint-hearted, and did not shew himself strong against them.

И собрались вокруг него люди пустые, люди развращенные, и укрепились против Ровоама, сына Соломона; Ровоам же был молод и слаб сердцем и не устоял против них.

And now ye think to shew yourselves strong against the kingdom of Jehovah in the hand of the sons of David; and ye are a great multitude, and ye have with you the golden calves that Jeroboam made you for gods.

И ныне вы думаете устоять против царства Господнего в руке сыновей Давида, потому что вас великое множество и у вас золотые тельцы, которых Иеровоам сделал вам богами.

Have ye not cast out the priests of Jehovah, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and made you priests as the peoples of the lands? whoever comes to consecrate himself with a young bullock and seven rams, he becomes a priest of what is not God.

Не вы ли изгнали священников Господних, сынов Аароновых, и левитов и поставили у себя священников, какие у народов других земель? Всякий, кто приходит для посвящения своего с тельцом и с семью овнами, делается у вас священником лжебогов.

But as for us, Jehovah is our God, and we have not forsaken him; and the priests that serve Jehovah are the sons of Aaron, and the Levites are at their work:

А у нас — Господь, Бог наш; мы не оставляли Его, и Господу служат священники, сыны Аароновы, и левиты при своем деле.

and they burn to Jehovah every morning and every evening burnt-offerings and sweet incense; the loaves also are set in order upon the pure table; and the candlestick of gold with its lamps to burn every evening: for we keep the charge of Jehovah our God; but ye have forsaken him.

И сжигают они Господу всесожжения каждое утро и каждый вечер, и благовонное курение, и полагают рядами хлебы на столе чистом, и зажигают золотой светильник и лампады его, чтобы горели каждый вечер, потому что мы соблюдаем установление Господа, Бога нашего, а вы оставили Его.

And behold, we have God with us at our head, and his priests, and the loud-sounding trumpets to sound an alarm against you. Children of Israel, do not fight with Jehovah the God of your fathers; for ye shall not prosper.

И вот, у нас во главе Бог, и священники Его, и трубы громогласные, чтобы греметь против вас. Сыны Израилевы! Не воюйте с Господом, Богом отцов ваших, ибо не получите успеха».

But Jeroboam caused an ambush to come about behind them; and they were before Judah, and the ambush behind them.

Между тем Иеровоам послал отряд в засаду с тыла им, так что сам он был впереди иудеев, а засада позади них.

And Judah looked back, and behold, they had the battle in front and behind; and they cried to Jehovah, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.

И оглянулись иудеи — и вот, им битва спереди и сзади; и возопили они к Господу, а священники затрубили трубами.

And the men of Judah gave a shout; and as the men of Judah shouted, it came to pass that God smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.

И воскликнули иудеи. И когда воскликнули иудеи, Бог поразил Иеровоама и всех израильтян перед лицом Авии и Иуды.

And the children of Israel fled before Judah; and God delivered them into their hand.

И побежали сыны Израилевы от иудеев, и предал их Бог в руки им.

And Abijah and his people slew them with a great slaughter; and there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.

И произвели у них Авия и народ его поражение сильное; и пало убитых у Израиля пятьсот тысяч человек отборных.

And the children of Israel were humbled at that time, and the children of Judah were strengthened, because they relied upon Jehovah the God of their fathers.

И смирились тогда сыны Израилевы, и были сильны сыны Иудины, потому что уповали на Господа, Бога отцов своих.

And Abijah pursued after Jeroboam, and took cities from him: Bethel with its dependent villages, and Jeshanah with its dependent villages, and Ephron with its dependent villages.

И преследовал Авия Иеровоама и взял у него города: Вефиль и зависящие от него города, и Иешану и зависящие от нее города, и Ефрон и зависящие от него города.

And Jeroboam did not recover strength again in the days of Abijah; and Jehovah smote him, and he died.

И не входил уже в силу Иеровоам во дни Авии. И поразил его Господь, и он умер.

But Abijah strengthened himself, and took fourteen wives, and begot twenty-two sons and sixteen daughters.

Авия же усилился; и взял себе четырнадцать жен и родил двадцать два сына и шестнадцать дочерей.

And the rest of the acts of Abijah, and his ways and his sayings, are written in the treatise of the prophet Iddo.

Прочие деяния Авии и его поступки и слова описаны в сказании пророка Адды.
