After Ahab’s death, Moab rebelled against Israel.

Па смерці ж Ахаба ўзбунтаваўся Мааб супраць Ізраэля.

Now Ahaziah had fallen through the lattice of his upper room in Samaria and injured himself. So he sent messengers, saying to them, “Go and consult Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron, to see if I will recover from this injury.”

А Ахазія выпаў праз краты з верхняга пакоя свайго, што ў Самарыі, і захварэў, і паслаў ён пасланцоў, загадваючы ім: «Ідзіце, спытайце Бэльзэбула, бога Акарона, ці ачуняю я з гэтай хваробы сваёй?»

But the angel of the Lord said to Elijah the Tishbite, “Go up and meet the messengers of the king of Samaria and ask them, ‘Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going off to consult Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron?’

Але анёл Госпадаў сказаў Іллі з Тэсбы: «Устань і выйдзі насустрач пасланцам цара Самарыі і скажы ім: “Ці ж няма Бога ў Ізраэлі, што вы ідзяце пытацца ў Бэльзэбула, бога Акарона?”

Therefore this is what the Lord says: ‘You will not leave the bed you are lying on. You will certainly die!’ ” So Elijah went.

Таму вось што кажа Госпад: “З ложка, на які ты лёг, не падымешся, але напэўна памрэш”». І Ілля пайшоў.

When the messengers returned to the king, he asked them, “Why have you come back?”

Тады вярнуліся пасланцы да Ахазіі, і ён спытаў іх: «Чаму вы вярнуліся?»

“A man came to meet us,” they replied. “And he said to us, ‘Go back to the king who sent you and tell him, “This is what the Lord says: Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are sending messengers to consult Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore you will not leave the bed you are lying on. You will certainly die!” ’ ”

А яны адказалі яму: «Нейкі чалавек сустрэў нас і сказаў нам: “Ідзіце і вярніцеся да цара, які паслаў вас, і скажыце яму: “Гэта кажа Госпад: “Ці няма Бога ў Ізраэлі, што ты пасылаеш раіцца да Бэльзэбула, бога Акарона? Таму з ложка, на які ты лёг, не падымешся, але, напэўна, памрэш”».

The king asked them, “What kind of man was it who came to meet you and told you this?”

Ён сказаў ім: «Як выглядаў і як быў апрануты той чалавек, які выйшаў вам насустрач і сказаў гэтыя словы?»

They replied, “He had a garment of haira and had a leather belt around his waist.” The king said, “That was Elijah the Tishbite.”

А яны адказалі: «Гэты чалавек быў у плашчы са скураў і быў падперазаны дзяжкай скураной вакол сцёгнаў». Ён крыкнуў: «Гэта Ілля з Тэсбы».

Then he sent to Elijah a captain with his company of fifty men. The captain went up to Elijah, who was sitting on the top of a hill, and said to him, “Man of God, the king says, ‘Come down!’ ”

І паслаў Ахазія па яго кіраўніка пяцідзесяці разам з яго пяццюдзесяццю; і прыйшоў ён да Іллі, калі той быў на вяршыні гары, і сказаў яму: «Чалавеча Божы! Цар загадаў, каб ты сышоў з гары!»

Elijah answered the captain, “If I am a man of God, may fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men!” Then fire fell from heaven and consumed the captain and his men.

І ў адказ Ілля сказаў кіраўніку пяцідзесяці: «Калі я чалавек Божы, хай сыдзе агонь з неба і спаліць цябе разам з тваімі пяццюдзесяццю!» І сышоў агонь з неба, і спаліў яго разам з яго пяццюдзесяццю.

At this the king sent to Elijah another captain with his fifty men. The captain said to him, “Man of God, this is what the king says, ‘Come down at once!’ ”

Тады цар паўторна паслаў па яго іншага кіраўніка пяцідзесяці разам з яго пяццюдзесяццю. І ён сказаў яму: «Чалавеча Божы, вось што кажа цар: “Хутка сыдзі з гары!”»

“If I am a man of God,” Elijah replied, “may fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men!” Then the fire of God fell from heaven and consumed him and his fifty men.

У адказ Ілля сказаў ім: «Калі я чалавек Божы, няхай сыдзе агонь з неба і спаліць цябе і пяцьдзесят чалавек тваіх». І сышоў агонь Божы з неба, і спаліў яго і пяцьдзесят чалавек яго.

So the king sent a third captain with his fifty men. This third captain went up and fell on his knees before Elijah. “Man of God,” he begged, “please have respect for my life and the lives of these fifty men, your servants!

Зноў паслаў цар трэцяга кіраўніка пяцідзесяці і пяцьдзесят чалавек з ім. Калі ён прыйшоў, упаў на калені перад Іллёй і прасіў яго і сказаў: «Чалавеча Божы, хай жыццё маё і жыццё гэтых паслугачоў тваіх, якія разам са мною, будзе каштоўным у вачах тваіх!

See, fire has fallen from heaven and consumed the first two captains and all their men. But now have respect for my life!”

Вось, агонь сышоў з неба і спаліў абодвух папярэдніх кіраўнікоў пяцідзесяці разам з папярэднімі пяццюдзесяццю, якія з імі былі; але цяпер прашу, каб злітаваўся ты над душою маёю».

The angel of the Lord said to Elijah, “Go down with him; do not be afraid of him.” So Elijah got up and went down with him to the king.

Тады анёл Госпадаў сказаў Іллі: «Сыдзі разам з ім, не бойся яго». Дык Ілля ўстаў і пайшоў разам з ім да цара,

He told the king, “This is what the Lord says: Is it because there is no God in Israel for you to consult that you have sent messengers to consult Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron? Because you have done this, you will never leave the bed you are lying on. You will certainly die!”

і сказаў яму: «Гэта кажа Госпад: “За тое, што ты паслаў пасланцоў раіцца да Бэльзэбула, бога Акарона, як быццам не было Бога ў Ізраэлі, ад Якога ты мог бы даведацца слова Яго, з ложка, на якім ляжыш, не падымешся, але напэўна памрэш”».

So he died, according to the word of the Lord that Elijah had spoken. Because Ahaziah had no son, Joramb succeeded him as king in the second year of Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah.

І памёр цар па слове Госпада, якое сказаў Ілля. І на яго месцы стаў цараваць Ярам, брат яго, у другім годзе Ярама, сына Язафата, цара Юдэі, бо Ахазія не меў сына.

As for all the other events of Ahaziah’s reign, and what he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel?

А дзеянні Ахазіі, якія ён зрабіў, — ці не запісаны яны ў Кнізе аналаў цароў Ізраэля?
