У Авессалома, сына Давида, была очень красивая сестра по имени Фамарь. Другой сын Давида, Амнон, полюбил Фамарь.

And it came to pass after this, that Absalom the son of David had a fair sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her.

Амнон довёл себя до болезни, думая о Фамари, но так как она была девственницей, Амнон считал невозможным завладеть ею.

And Amnon was so vexed, that he fell sick for his sister Tamar; for she was a virgin; and Amnon thought it hard for him to do any thing to her.

У Амнона был друг по имени Ионадав, сын Самая (Самай был братом Давида). Ионадав был очень умным человеком.

But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother: and Jonadab was a very subtil man.

Он сказал Амнону: «Почему ты всё время грустишь? Ты же царский сын! Скажи, что беспокоит тебя?» Тогда Амнон ответил ему: «Я люблю Фамарь, сестру моего сводного брата Авессалома».

And he said unto him, Why art thou, being the king's son, lean from day to day? wilt thou not tell me? And Amnon said unto him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister.

Ионадав сказал ему: «Ложись в постель и притворись больным. И когда твой отец придёт навестить тебя, скажи ему: „Пусть придёт моя сестра Фамарь и накормит меня. Пусть она приготовит еду у меня на глазах. Только после того как я увижу, как она готовит, я поем из её рук”».

And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand.

Амнон лёг и притворился больным. Когда царь пришёл навестить его, Амнон сказал ему: «Пожалуйста, пусть придёт моя сестра Фамарь и испечёт для меня пару лепёшек, и я поем из её рук ».

So Amnon lay down, and made himself sick: and when the king was come to see him, Amnon said unto the king, I pray thee, let Tamar my sister come, and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat at her hand.

И послал Давид к Фамари домой сказать: «Пойди в дом Амнона, брата твоего, и приготовь ему еду».

Then David sent home to Tamar, saying, Go now to thy brother Amnon's house, and dress him meat.

Тогда Фамарь пошла в дом своего брата Амнона, который лежал в постели. Фамарь взяла немного муки, замесила её, слепила лепёшки на глазах у Амнона и испекла их.

So Tamar went to her brother Amnon's house; and he was laid down. And she took flour, and kneaded it, and made cakes in his sight, and did bake the cakes.

Затем она сняла со сковороды лепёшки и подала их Амнону. Но он отказался есть, сказав: «Пусть все выйдут отсюда!» И все слуги вышли из комнаты.

And she took a pan, and poured them out before him; but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, Have out all men from me. And they went out every man from him.

Тогда Амнон сказал Фамари: «Отнеси еду в мою спальню, и я поем из твоих рук». Фамарь отнесла еду, которую приготовила для брата, к нему в спальню.

And Amnon said unto Tamar, Bring the meat into the chamber, that I may eat of thine hand. And Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother.

Но, когда она начала кормить его, он схватил её, сказав: «Иди и ложись со мной в постель, сестра моя».

And when she had brought them unto him to eat, he took hold of her, and said unto her, Come lie with me, my sister.

Но Фамарь ответила: «Нет, брат мой! Не заставляй меня! Такой ужасный грех не должен происходить в Израиле! Не твори этого бесстыдства!

And she answered him, Nay, my brother, do not force me; for no such thing ought to be done in Israel: do not thou this folly.

А я, как смогу я избавиться от своего бесчестия? И тебя люди будут считать одним из безумных в Израиле. Пожалуйста, поговори с царём. Он разрешит тебе жениться на мне».

And I, whither shall I cause my shame to go? and as for thee, thou shalt be as one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, I pray thee, speak unto the king; for he will not withhold me from thee.

Но он не хотел слушать её и, так как был сильнее, одолел её, и изнасиловал.

Howbeit he would not hearken unto her voice: but, being stronger than she, forced her, and lay with her.

Потом Амнон возненавидел её. Он возненавидел Фамарь так, что его ненависть была сильнее, чем любовь, которую он испытывал к ней раньше. Тогда Амнон сказал ей: «Встань и уйди отсюда!»

Then Amnon hated her exceedingly; so that the hatred wherewith he hated her was greater than the love wherewith he had loved her. And Amnon said unto her, Arise, be gone.

Фамарь сказала ему: «Нет! Не прогоняй меня. Это зло будет ещё больше, чем то, которое ты уже причинил мне!» Но Амнон не хотел её слушать.

And she said unto him, There is no cause: this evil in sending me away is greater than the other that thou didst unto me. But he would not hearken unto her.

Он позвал своего слугу и сказал ему: «Выгони отсюда эту женщину и запри за ней дверь».

Then he called his servant that ministered unto him, and said, Put now this woman out from me, and bolt the door after her.

Затем слуга вывел её и запер за ней дверь. Фамарь была одета в длинную разноцветную одежду. Такую одежду носили царские дочери-девственницы.

And she had a garment of divers colours upon her: for with such robes were the king's daughters that were virgins apparelled. Then his servant brought her out, and bolted the door after her.

Фамарь посыпала свою голову пеплом и разорвала свою разноцветную одежду. Затем она обхватила голову руками и пошла, громко рыдая.

And Tamar put ashes on her head, and rent her garment of divers colours that was on her, and laid her hand on her head, and went on crying.

И сказал ей брат её Авессалом: «Не брат ли твой Амнон был с тобой? Успокойся, сестра моя. Он — твой брат. Не принимай это близко к сердцу». И жила Фамарь, обесчещенная женщина, в доме своего брата Авессалома.

And Absalom her brother said unto her, Hath Amnon thy brother been with thee? but hold now thy peace, my sister: he is thy brother; regard not this thing. So Tamar remained desolate in her brother Absalom's house.

Когда царь Давид услышал обо всём этом, он сильно разгневался. Однако даже несмотря на это, Давид не хотел наказывать Амнона, так как он был старшим и самым любимым сыном.

But when king David heard of all these things, he was very wroth.

Авессалом же не сказал Амнону ни одного слова, ни хорошего, ни плохого, но возненавидел Амнона за то, что тот обесчестил его сестру Фамарь.

And Absalom spake unto his brother Amnon neither good nor bad: for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar.

Через два года, когда Авессалом стриг овец в Ваал-Асоре, он пригласил туда всех царских сыновей.

And it came to pass after two full years, that Absalom had sheepshearers in Baalhazor, which is beside Ephraim: and Absalom invited all the king's sons.

Авессалом пришёл к царю и сказал: «Ко мне пришли люди стричь овец. Пожалуйста, пусть царь и его слуги присоединятся ко мне».

And Absalom came to the king, and said, Behold now, thy servant hath sheepshearers; let the king, I beseech thee, and his servants go with thy servant.

Но царь Давид сказал Авессалому: «Нет, сын мой. Мы все не пойдём. Мы только будем тебе в тягость». Авессалом сильно упрашивал его, но царь, благословив сына, отказался идти.

And the king said to Absalom, Nay, my son, let us not all now go, lest we be chargeable unto thee. And he pressed him: howbeit he would not go, but blessed him.

Тогда Авессалом сказал ему: «Если ты не хочешь, то позволь моему брату Амнону пойти с нами». Царь спросил его: «Зачем ему идти с тобой?»

Then said Absalom, If not, I pray thee, let my brother Amnon go with us. And the king said unto him, Why should he go with thee?

Но Авессалом продолжал упрашивать его, и Давид отпустил с ним Амнона и всех остальных царских сыновей.

But Absalom pressed him, that he let Amnon and all the king's sons go with him.

Затем Авессалом приказал своим слугам: «Смотрите за Амноном. Когда он развеселится от выпитого вина, я прикажу вам напасть на Амнона и убить его. Не бойтесь! Это я приказываю вам, а вы только исполняете моё приказание. Будьте смелы и мужественны».

Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, Mark ye now when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say unto you, Smite Amnon; then kill him, fear not: have not I commanded you? be courageous, and be valiant.

Тогда слуги Авессалома сделали так, как он им приказал. Они убили Амнона, а все другие царские сыновья сели каждый на своего мула и спаслись бегством.

And the servants of Absalom did unto Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king's sons arose, and every man gat him up upon his mule, and fled.

Пока царские сыновья были ещё в пути, до Давида дошёл слух, что Авессалом убил всех царских сыновей, и не осталось ни одного из них.

And it came to pass, while they were in the way, that tidings came to David, saying, Absalom hath slain all the king's sons, and there is not one of them left.

Тогда царь встал, разорвал на себе одежды и лёг на землю. И все слуги, стоявшие возле него, тоже разорвали свои одежды.

Then the king arose, and tare his garments, and lay on the earth; and all his servants stood by with their clothes rent.

Но Ионадав, сын Самая, брата Давида, сказал: «Пусть не думает господин мой, что все царские сыновья убиты! Убит только Амнон. Авессалом собирался сделать это с того дня, когда Амнон изнасиловал сестру его Фамарь.

And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother, answered and said, Let not my lord suppose that they have slain all the young men the king's sons; for Amnon only is dead: for by the appointment of Absalom this hath been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar.

Господин мой царь, не думай, что все царские сыновья убиты. Убит один только Амнон».

Now therefore let not my lord the king take the thing to his heart, to think that all the king's sons are dead: for Amnon only is dead.

Между тем, Авессалом сбежал. Человек, стоявший на страже у городской стены, увидел на дороге много людей, спускавшихся по склону горы.

But Absalom fled. And the young man that kept the watch lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came much people by the way of the hill side behind him.

Тогда Ионадав сказал царю: «Смотри, я был прав! Вот идут царские сыновья».

And Jonadab said unto the king, Behold, the king's sons come: as thy servant said, so it is.

И как только он это сказал, пришли царские сыновья, громко плача. И сам царь, и все его слуги громко рыдали.

And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of speaking, that, behold, the king's sons came, and lifted up their voice and wept: and the king also and all his servants wept very sore.

Царь Давид оплакивал своего сына каждый день. Авессалом же сбежал и отправился к Фалмаю, сыну Аммиуда, царю гессурскому.

But Absalom fled, and went to Talmai, the son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son every day.

Придя в Гессур, Авессалом пробыл там три года.

So Absalom fled, and went to Geshur, and was there three years.

Царь Давид перестал преследовать Авессалома, так как утешился о смерти Амнона.

And the soul of king David longed to go forth unto Absalom: for he was comforted concerning Amnon, seeing he was dead.
