Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,

І было слова ГОСПАДА да Ёны, сына Амітая, кажучы:

“Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before Me.”

«Устань, ідзі ў Нініву, горад вялікі, і кажы супраць яго, бо ўзышло ліхоцьце іхняе перад аблічча Маё».

But Jonah arose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid the fare, and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.

І ўстаў Ёна, каб уцячы ў Таршыш ад аблічча ГОСПАДА, і зыйшоў у Яфу, і знайшоў карабель, які плыў у Таршыш; і даў плату, і зыйшоў на карабель, каб плыць з імі ў Таршыш ад аблічча ГОСПАДА.

But the Lord [a]sent out a great wind on the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, so that the ship was about to be broken up.

Але ГОСПАД пусьціў вялікі вецер на мора, і ўзьнялася вялікая бура на моры, і думалі, што карабель разаб’ецца.

Then the mariners were afraid; and every man cried out to his god, and threw the cargo that was in the ship into the sea, to lighten [b]the load. But Jonah had gone down into the lowest parts of the ship, had lain down, and was fast asleep.

І напалохаліся маракі, і крычалі кожны да бога свайго, і выкінулі ў мора рэчы, што былі на караблі, каб быў лягчэйшым; а Ёна зыйшоў у сярэдзіну карабля, і лёг, і моцна заснуў.

So the captain came to him, and said to him, “What do you mean, sleeper? Arise, call on your God; perhaps your God will consider us, so that we may not perish.”

І наблізіўся да яго корнік, і сказаў яму: «Што табе, што ты сьпіш? Устань, кліч да Бога свайго, можа, узгадае Бог пра нас, і мы не загінем».

And they said to one another, “Come, let us cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this trouble has come upon us.” So they cast lots, and the lot fell on Jonah.

І сказалі адзін аднаму: «Хадземце, кіньма жэрабя, і даведаемся, праз каго гэтае ліха [прыйшло] на нас». І кінулі жэрабя, і выпала жэрабя на Ёну.

Then they said to him, “Please tell us! For whose cause is this trouble upon us? What is your occupation? And where do you come from? What is your country? And of what people are you?”

І сказалі яму: «Скажы нам, з якой прычыны гэтае ліха [прыйшло] на нас? Які занятак твой? Адкуль ты прыйшоў? З якога ты краю і з якога народу?»

So he said to them, “I am a Hebrew; and I fear [c]the Lord, the God of heaven, who made the sea and the dry land.”

І ён сказаў ім: «Я — Гебрай, і я баюся ГОСПАДА, Бога нябёсаў, Які ўчыніў мора і сухазем’е».

Then the men were exceedingly afraid, and said to him, “Why have you done this?” For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the Lord, because he had told them.

І спалохаліся тыя людзі страхам вялікім, і сказалі яму: «Чаму ты гэта зрабіў?», бо даведаліся тыя людзі, што ён уцякае ад аблічча ГОСПАДА, бо ён абвясьціў ім [гэта].

Then they said to him, “What shall we do to you that the sea may be calm for us?” — for the sea was growing more tempestuous.

І сказалі яму: «Што нам зрабіць з табою, каб сьціхла мора?», бо мора ўсё больш бушавала.

And he said to them, “Pick me up and [d]throw me into the sea; then the sea will become calm for you. For I know that this great tempest is because of me.”

І ён сказаў ім: «Вазьміце мяне і кіньце ў мора, і супакоіцца мора, [якое] супраць вас, бо я ведаю, што з-за мяне гэтая бура вялікая супраць вас».

Nevertheless the men rowed hard to return to land, but they could not, for the sea continued to grow more tempestuous against them.

І моцна веславалі тыя людзі, каб вярнуцца на сухую зямлю, і не маглі, бо мора больш і больш бушавала супраць іх.

Therefore they cried out to the Lord and said, “We pray, O Lord, please do not let us perish for this man’s life, and do not charge us with innocent blood; for You, O Lord, have done as it pleased You.”

І клікалі яны да ГОСПАДА, і сказалі: «ГОСПАДЗЕ, молім Цябе, няхай не загінем мы за душу чалавека гэтага, і не ўскладай на нас кроў нявінную, бо Ты, ГОСПАДЗЕ, як захочаш, так і зробіш».

So they picked up Jonah and threw him into the sea, and the sea ceased from its raging.

І яны паднялі Ёну, і кінулі яго ў мора, і перастала мора гневацца.

Then the men feared the Lord exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice to the Lord and took vows.

І напалохаліся тыя людзі страхам вялікім перад ГОСПАДАМ, і складалі яны ахвяры ГОСПАДУ, і абяцалі абяцаньні.

Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
