There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and [a]shunned evil.

Чалавек на імя Ёў жыў у зямлі Уц, і быў ён чалавек шчыры і справядлівы, баяўся Бога і пазьбягаў зла.

And seven sons and three daughters were born to him.

І нарадзілася яму сем сыноў і тры дачкі.

Also, his possessions were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very large household, so that this man was the greatest of all the [b]people of the East.

І была маёмасьць ягоная — сем тысячаў авечак, тры тысячы вярблюдаў, пяцьсот параў валоў, пяцьсот асьліцаў і вельмі шмат слугаў. І быў чалавек той найбольшым сярод усіх сыноў Усходу.

And his sons would go and feast in their houses, each on his appointed day, and would send and invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them.

Сыны ягоныя зьбіраліся адзін у аднаго і банкетавалі ў доме кожнага па чарзе. І запрашалі яны таксама тры сястры свае есьці і піць разам з імі.

So it was, when the days of feasting had run their course, that Job would send and [c]sanctify them, and he would rise early in the morning and offer burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, “It may be that my sons have sinned and cursed[d] God in their hearts.” Thus Job did regularly.

Калі спыняліся чэргі баляваньня, Ёў пасылаў да іх, каб выканаць ачышчэньне іх. І ўставаў ён раніцаю, і складаў ахвяры цэласпаленьня за кожнага з іх, бо казаў: «Можа, сыны мае нечым саграшылі і зьняважылі Бога ў сэрцах сваіх?» Так рабіў Ёў у-ва ўсе дні.

Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and [e]Satan also came among them.

Аднойчы, калі сыны Божыя прыйшлі стаць перад ГОСПАДАМ, між імі прыйшоў і шатан.

And the Lord said to [f]Satan, “From where do you come?” So Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.”

І сказаў ГОСПАД шатану: «Адкуль прыйшоў ты?» І адказаў шатан ГОСПАДУ, і сказаў: «Я абыйшоў зямлю і хадзіў па ёй».

Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you [g]considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and [h]shuns evil?”

І сказаў ГОСПАД шатану: «Ці зьвярнуў ты ўвагу на слугу Майго, Ёва, якому няма подобнага на зямлі. Ён — чалавек шчыры і справядлівы, баіцца Бога і пазьбягае зла».

So Satan answered the Lord and said, “Does Job fear God for nothing?

І адказаў шатан ГОСПАДУ, і сказаў: «Ці ж Ёў задарма баіцца Бога?

Have You not [i]made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.

Ці ж не атачыў Ты дабраславенствам Тваім і яго, і дом ягоны, і ўсю маёмасьць ягоную, і працу рук ягоных, і ці не павялічваецца маёмасьць ягоная на зямлі?

But now, stretch out Your hand and touch all that he has, and he will surely curse[j] You to Your face!”

Але выцягні крыху руку Тваю і дакраніся да ўсяго, што ён мае, зьневажаючы, будзе зьневажаць Цябе ў твар».

And the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your [k]power; only do not lay a hand on his person.” So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.

І сказаў ГОСПАД шатану: «Вось, усё, што ён мае, у руцэ тваёй, толькі яго самога не чапай». І зыйшоў шатан ад аблічча ГОСПАДА.

Now there was a day when his sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house;

І калі аднаго дня сыны і дочкі ягоныя елі і пілі віно ў доме найстарэйшага брата,

and a messenger came to Job and said, “The oxen were plowing and the donkeys feeding beside them,

прыйшоў пасланец да Ёва і паведаміў: «Валы аралі, а асьліцы пасьвіліся побач,

when the [l]Sabeans [m]raided them and took them away — indeed they have killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”

і раптам напалі Савейцы, і пазабіралі іх, а слугаў пазабівалі мячом. Ацалеў толькі я адзін, каб сказаць табе».

While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants, and [n]consumed them; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”

І калі ён яшчэ гаварыў, прыбег іншы і сказаў: «Агонь Божы зыйшоў з неба і папаліў авечак і слугаў. Я адзін ацалеў, каб паведаміць табе пра гэта».

While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The Chaldeans formed three bands, raided the camels and took them away, yes, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”

І калі ён яшчэ гаварыў, прыйшоў іншы і сказаў: «Халдэйцы сабралі тры дружыны, напалі на вярблюдаў і пагналі іх, а слугаў мячом пазабівалі. Я адзін уцёк, каб паведаміць табе».

While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house,

І калі ён яшчэ гаварыў, прыбег іншы і сказаў: «Калі сыны твае і дочкі елі і пілі віно ў доме найстарэйшага брата свайго,

and suddenly a great wind came from [o]across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people, and they are dead; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”

раптам паднялася страшэнная бура з пустыні, зрушыла чатыры вуглы дому, які ўпаў і падушыў дзяцей тваіх, і яны памерлі. Ацалеў я адзін, каб паведаміць табе».

Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped.

І ўстаў Ёў, і разьдзёр адзеньне сваё, і абгаліў галаву, і ўпаў на зямлю, і пакланіўся,

And he said: “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, And naked shall I return there. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord.”

і сказаў: «Голы я выйшаў з улоньня маці маёй, і голы вярнуся туды. ГОСПАД даў, і ГОСПАД забраў. Няхай будзе імя ГОСПАДА дабраслаўлёным!»

In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong.

І ў-ва ўсім гэтым не саграшыў Ёў, і нічога неразважнага супраць Бога не сказаў.
