Now it came to pass, in the days when the judges [a]ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehem, Judah, went to [b]dwell in the country of Moab, he and his wife and his two sons.

І было ў дні, калі судзілі судзьдзі, і быў голад на зямлі, і пайшоў чалавек з Бэтлеему Юдэйскага жыць на палях Мааву, ён, і жонка ягоная, і два сыны ягоныя.

The name of the man was Elimelech, the name of his wife was Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion — Ephrathites of Bethlehem, Judah. And they went to the country of Moab and remained there.

І [было] імя чалавека Элімэлех, а імя жонкі — Наомі, а імёны двух сыноў ягоных — Махлон і Кільён з Эфраты, з Бэтлеему Юдэйскага. І прыйшлі яны на палі Мааву, і былі там.

Then Elimelech, Naomi’s husband, died; and she was left, and her two sons.

І памёр Элімэлех, муж Наомі, і засталася яна і два сыны ейныя.

Now they took wives of the women of Moab: the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth. And they [c]dwelt there about ten years.

І ўзялі яны сабе жонак Мааўлянак, імя адной — Орпа, а імя другой — Рут. І яны жылі там гадоў дзесяць.

Then both Mahlon and Chilion also died; so the woman survived her two sons and her husband.

І памерлі таксама Махлон і Кільён, і засталася жанчына без дзяцей і бяз мужа.

Then she arose with her daughters-in-law that she might return from the country of Moab, for she had heard in the country of Moab that the Lord had visited[d] His people by giving them bread.

І ўстала яна, і нявесткі яе, і вярнуліся з палёў Мааву, бо пачула яна на палях Мааву, што ГОСПАД наведаў народ Свой і даў ім хлеб.

Therefore she went out from the place where she was, and her two daughters-in-law with her; and they went on the way to return to the land of Judah.

І выйшла яна з месца, у якім была, і дзьве нявесткі ейныя з ёй, і яны пайшлі па дарозе назад у зямлю Юды.

And Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, “Go, return each to her mother’s house. The Lord deal kindly with you, as you have dealt with the dead and with me.

І сказала Наомі двум нявесткам сваім: «Ідзіце, няхай [кожная] жанчына вернецца ў дом маці сваёй. Няхай зьявіць вам ГОСПАД міласэрнасьць, як вы зьявілі памерлым сваім і мне.

The Lord grant that you may find rest, each in the house of her husband.” So she kissed them, and they lifted up their voices and wept.

Няхай дасьць вам ГОСПАД знайсьці спакой жаночы ў доме мужа свайго». І яна пацалавала іх, а яны ўзьнялі голас свой і заплакалі.

And they said to her, “Surely we will return with you to your people.”

І сказалі яны ёй: «Мы вернемся з табою да народу твайго».

But Naomi said, “Turn back, my daughters; why will you go with me? Are there still sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands?

І сказала Наомі: «Вяртайцеся, дочкі мае. Навошта вы пойдзеце са мною? Ці ж маю я сыноў ва ўлоньні маім, каб яны сталіся мужамі для вас?

Turn back, my daughters, go — for I am too old to have a husband. If I should say I have hope, if I should have a husband tonight and should also bear sons,

Вяртайцеся, дочкі мае, ідзіце. Бо я занадта старая, каб выйсьці замуж, нават калі б я сказала: “Ёсьць для мяне надзея”, і таксама ў гэту ноч выйшла замуж, і нарадзіла сыноў,

would you wait for them till they were grown? Would you restrain yourselves from having husbands? No, my daughters; for it grieves me very much for your sakes that the hand of the Lord has gone out against me!”

ці будзеце вы чакаць, пакуль яны вырастуць? Ці дзеля іх вы ня выйдзеце замуж? Не, дочкі мае. Вельмі горка мне з-за вас, бо зьвернута на мяне рука ГОСПАДА».

Then they lifted up their voices and wept again; and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law, but Ruth clung to her.

І яны ўзьнялі голас свой, і плакалі. І Орпа пацалавала сьвякруху сваю, а Рут засталася з ёю.

And she said, “Look, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her gods; return after your sister-in-law.”

І сказала [Наомі]: «Вось, швагерка твая вярнулася да народу свайго і багоў сваіх. Вяртайся і ты за швагеркай тваёй».

But Ruth said: “Entreat[e] me not to leave you, Or to turn back from following after you; For wherever you go, I will go; And wherever you lodge, I will lodge; Your people shall be my people, And your God, my God.

І сказала Рут: «Не прымушай мяне, каб я пакінула цябе і зыйшла ад цябе. Куды ты пойдзеш, туды я пайду, дзе ты будзеш жыць, там я буду жыць. Народ твой будзе народам маім, і Бог твой будзе Богам маім.

Where you die, I will die, And there will I be buried. The Lord do so to me, and more also, If anything but death parts you and me.”

Дзе ты памрэш, там я памру, і там буду пахаваная. Няхай гэта зробіць мне ГОСПАД і няхай яшчэ дадасьць, бо [толькі] сьмерць аддзеліць мяне ад цябе».

When she saw that she [f]was determined to go with her, she stopped speaking to her.

І ўбачыла [Наомі], што [Рут] вырашыла ісьці з ёю, і перастала адгаворваць яе.

Now the two of them went until they came to Bethlehem. And it happened, when they had come to Bethlehem, that all the city was excited because of them; and the women said, “Is this Naomi?”

І ішлі абедзьве разам, аж прыйшлі ў Бэтлеем. І было, калі прыйшлі ў Бэтлеем, увесь горад узрушыўся, і казалі: «Ці ж гэта Наомі?»

But she said to them, “Do not call me [g]Naomi; call me [h]Mara, for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me.

А яна казала ім: «Не называйце мяне Наомі, але называйце мяне Мара, бо вялікай горыччу напоўніў мяне Усемагутны.

I went out full, and the Lord has brought me home again empty. Why do you call me Naomi, since the Lord has testified against me, and [i]the Almighty has afflicted me?”

Я выйшла поўная, але пустою вярнуў мяне ГОСПАД. Чаму вы называеце мяне Наомі, калі ГОСПАД выступіў супраць мяне і Усемагутны спаслаў няшчасьце на мяне».

So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess her daughter-in-law with her, who returned from the country of Moab. Now they came to Bethlehem at the beginning of barley harvest.

І вярнулася Наомі, і Рут Мааўлянка, нявестка ейная, з ёю вярнулася з палёў Мааву, і прыйшлі яны ў Бэтлеем на пачатку жніва ячменю.
