The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel:

Прыповесьці Салямона, сына Давіда, валадара Ізраіля,

To know wisdom and instruction, To [a]perceive the words of understanding,

каб спазнаць мудрасьць і настаўленьне, зразумець словы розуму,

To receive the instruction of wisdom, Justice, judgment, and equity;

каб атрымаць настаўленьні ў разважлівасьці, праведнасьці, судзе і справядлівасьці,

To give prudence to the simple, To the young man knowledge and discretion —

каб неразумным даць разумнасьць, юнаку — веды і разважлівасьць.

A wise man will hear and increase learning, And a man of understanding will [b]attain wise counsel,

Мудры няхай слухае і павялічвае веды, а разумны няхай прыдбае мудрыя думкі,

To understand a proverb and an enigma, The words of the wise and their riddles.

каб зразумець выслоўе і прыповесьць, словы мудрых і загадкі іхнія.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Страх перад ГОСПАДАМ — пачатак веданьня. Неразумныя пагарджаюць мудрасьцю і настаўленьнем.

My son, hear the instruction of your father, And do not forsake the law of your mother;

Сыне мой, паслухай перасьцярогаў бацькі твайго і не адкідай настаўленьняў маці тваёй,

For they will be a graceful ornament on your head, And chains about your neck.

бо яны — прывабны вянок на галаве тваёй і каштоўныя каралі на шыі тваёй.

My son, if sinners entice you, Do not consent.

Сыне мой, калі б цябе намаўлялі грэшнікі, не далучайся да іх.

If they say, “Come with us, Let us lie in wait to shed blood; Let us lurk secretly for the innocent without cause;

Калі яны скажуць: «Хадзем з намі! Зробім засаду дзеля праліцьця крыві; наставім без прычыны пастку на нявіннага;

Let us swallow them alive like [c]Sheol, And whole, like those who go down to the Pit;

праглынем іх жыўцом, як пекла, і цалкам, як тых, што зыходзяць у магілу;

We shall find all kinds of precious [d]possessions, We shall fill our houses with [e]spoil;

знойдзем усялякія каштоўнасьці, напоўнім дамы свае здабычаю.

Cast in your lot among us, Let us all have one purse” —

Жэрабя сваё кідай разам з намі, няхай адзін мех будзе для нас усіх».

My son, do not walk in the way with them, Keep your foot from their path;

Сыне мой, не хадзі з імі, устрымай нагу тваю ад сьцежкі іхняй,

For their feet run to evil, And they make haste to shed blood.

бо ногі іхнія бягуць да злачынства і сьпяшаюцца на праліцьцё крыві.

Surely, in [f]vain the net is spread In the sight of any [g]bird;

Бо надарэмна настаўляецца сетка на вачах усяго птаства.

But they lie in wait for their own blood, They lurk secretly for their own lives.

А яны цікуюць на ўласную кроў, робяць засаду супраць душы сваёй.

So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain; It takes away the life of its owners.

Такія вось сьцежкі кожнага, хто прагне чужога даброцьця; яно забірае душу таго, хто завалодае ім.

Wisdom calls aloud [h]outside; She raises her voice in the open squares.

Мудрасьць гукае на вуліцах, на плошчах узьнімае голас свой,

She cries out in the [i]chief concourses, At the openings of the gates in the city She speaks her words:

на скрыжаваньнях шумлівых дарог кліча, у брамах гарадзкіх гучаць яе словы:

“How long, you [j]simple ones, will you love [k]simplicity? For scorners delight in their scorning, And fools hate knowledge.

«Дакуль, неразумныя, будзеце любіць неразумнасьць; дакуль, насьмешнікі, будзеце захапляцца насьмешкамі сваімі, а невукі — пагарджаць веданьнем?

Turn at my rebuke; Surely I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you.

Зьвярніцеся да настаўленьня майго, і я выльлю на вас духа майго, і абвяшчу вам словы мае.

Because I have called and you refused, I have stretched out my hand and no one regarded,

Вось жа я клікала, але вы адмаўляліся, працягвала руку сваю, але ніхто не зьвярнуў увагі.

Because you disdained all my counsel, And would have none of my rebuke,

Вы ўзгардзілі радай маёю і адкінулі дакараньні мае.

I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes,

Дык і я буду сьмяяцца з падзеньня вашага, і насьміхацца буду, калі прыйдзе на вас жах.

When your terror comes like a storm, And your destruction comes like a whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you.

Калі нахлыне жах, як бура, і загуба ваша, быццам віхура, калі прыйдуць на вас трывога і гора,

“Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me.

тады будуць клікаць мяне, але я не адкажу, будуць шукаць мяне, і ня знойдуць мяне.

Because they hated knowledge And did not choose the fear of the Lord,

Бо яны зьненавідзелі веданьне і ня выбралі для сябе страху перад ГОСПАДАМ,

They would have none of my counsel And despised my every rebuke.

і не пайшлі за парадамі маімі, і ўзгардзілі перасьцярогамі маімі.

Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way, And be filled to the full with their own fancies.

Дык няхай ядуць яны плады шляху свайго і насыцяцца намерамі сваімі.

For the [l]turning away of the simple will slay them, And the complacency of fools will destroy them;

Бо адступніцтва неразумных заб’е іх, бяздумнасьць дурняў загубіць іх.

But whoever listens to me will dwell safely, And will be [m]secure, without fear of evil.”

А хто слухае мяне, будзе жыць бясьпечна, будзе спакойны, не баючыся зла».
